  1. I share your pain. In the last 2.5 years my exhaust heatshield fell off, had to pay for 30mins labour to have it re-attached. It's a living nightmare.
  2. FWIW my mileage dropped like a stone during lockdown. Went from around 31mpg to around 22-23, measured with fuelly.
  3. After driving BMWs for years I am absolutely in love with my Lexus. Toyota fanboy for life now.
  4. This made me chuckle, I'd love to see one with negative mileage
  5. Also - how are you measuring your fuel mileage?
  6. Hi @Steve vialls there are lots of possible causes, it could be as simple as low tyre pressures or your driving style. With the lockdown going on most people aren't driving as much, town mileage won't be as good as motorway mileage. Could also be bad sensors, bad MAF, bad injectors.. an endless list. If you have access to a scan tool it may be worth scanning the car to see if there are any error codes stored in the computer.
  7. I agree it looks really nice but 30k miles.. that would make me nervous. 30k miles over 22 years is less than 1500 miles/year. It probably spent a fair few of those stored but I'd want to make sure it had been stored well. I think on balance I'd much prefer to buy one with 200k on the clock that had been taken care of and driven a lot. Would pay a lot less for it and the engine would still have hundreds of thousands of miles left in it, and I wouldn't have to worry about it being sat for a long time with old fluids in it. Lovely to look at though.
  8. Total cost £480, very happy with the result and would definitely recommend them.
  9. Just got my door cards back from Service Upholstry in Streatham. Nice people and did a good job. Before:
  10. Turns out I was wrong, the top mount is a bit worn but not in imminent need of replacement. The knocking was caused by the air resonator being mounted in the wrong position, now fixed by my local garage, and generally I was advised not to idle for long periods with the transmission in gear.
  11. I was reading the other day that the weight of the glass of a panoramic moon roof is like having an extra passenger in the car permanently. Most people probably don't use them very often (me included) so really it's just unnecessary weight.
  12. Lets also bear in mind that there was nothing overtly untoward here. The invoice didn't say the air filter had been replaced. It may simply be that they informed the customer that the air filter looked clean/new and asked them if they wanted them to replace it anyway, and the customer may have simply said no.
  13. Does making up the shortfall always work consistently or do you find you sometimes have to push it significantly more to keep the revs up? If the former I'd suspect an electronic issue with the throttle pedal, wiring or signal. If the latter I'd suspect a fuelling issue.
  14. Nah I don't have run-flats, I think my car's too old for that
  15. Apparently it does! I'd always assumed that Goodyear just made quieter / softer tyres but I changed the profile to 19" and then Dunlops were significantly quieter. You live and learn!
  16. I'm curious now, I wonder if the noise rating changes based on the profile. Going to do some clicking on the merityre website!
  17. Goodyear Vector 4Seasons SUV G2 225/65 R17 102H
  18. I always buy Goodyears because they seem to have the lowest noise rating of all premium tyres.
  19. You're right, but I would wager that the products being sold by reputable companies (such as the AA) are of significantly higher quality than the average random no-name consumer electronics hawked by no-name companies on ebay and amazon, despite both being made in the same country.
  20. FWIW I enquired with an experienced tech as to whether I should swap out my water pump as preventative maintenance, my car is chain-driven so the water pump isn't on a typical service interval with a cam belt. He said on toyotas the water pumps usually give a strong indication that they're going out long before they fail, like a whine or obviously leaking, so replacing them pre-emptively isn't necessary.
  21. Ah my bad I didn't look at the listing closely - saw it was ebay and £25 and assumed it'd be from china. Being made by the AA makes a difference but I still don't think I'd use one as OBD2 isn't designed to charge the battery.
  22. So my gut reaction is formed of these components: 1) ODB2 is not designed to handle charging current 2) Cheap chinese ebay electronics of dubious quality 3) The ECU and other expensive computers are accessible directly from the OBD2 port with (as far as i’m led to understand) no protection circuitry Sure solar chargers probably only produce a small charging current, but this still seems like unnecessary risk.
  23. My immediate gut reaction to that is “not touch with barge pole”, but i’m open to being persuaded otherwise!
  24. Ok bad choice of words - I've heard people talk about it happening but you're right it's probably quite uncommon.
