  1. Was actual diagnosis done by an experienced technician or did you just scan the codes and see a sensor error code and assume the sensor was faulty? Error codes are not specific faults they are error *conditions* usually with hundreds of possible causes. If you bought a cheap sensor off ebay you may have simply added another problem to the one that was already present.
  2. http://japan.toylexparts.com/harrier/521120/acu30w-awpgk/235w/001/3/7701/771280n#sec_23217D in the column on the left, 23217D. Maybe it's not necessary to change it but it was on a previous vehicle I owned.
  3. I think while there's still demand there will still be supply, you should be fine for a good while yet.
  4. Good result, hope you get it sorted soon. Definitely get the transmission fluid changed ASAP. Just a drain and fill and replacement of the filter assembly, if they use the word "flush" run away.
  5. I noticed on the RX-300 service schedule I have that it doesn't mention the fuel filter. Is this something that should be changed every now and then?
  6. If it comes on when the key is turned then the light is ok, as at that point it's only testing the light. If it comes on then but not when the button is pressed then it may be an issue with the VSC system, switch or wiring.
  7. When you first turn the key all the lights should light up momentarily as a test. Does it light up then?
  8. I wouldn't want to use satnav built in 2007 and not updated. Modern iPhone apps are much better. I like TomTom Go Mobile as it has support for monitoring your average speed through average zones.
  9. Don't know about that one but I recently had mine serviced and they used "Kleen Air" by CarPlan which seems to have worked great. It's an antibacterial cleaner spray and left no odour at all.
  10. If you know the rest of the car is in good shape and you can't buy anything else with what it'll cost to fix it, then it's a no-brainer. If you're unsure of the condition of the rest of the car it might be worth paying a small amount of money to have a general inspection done. Then at least you can make a more informed decision about whether to fix it or bail.
  11. Topping up yourself is probably not a good idea. Modern AC systems use a very small volume of refrigerant and there's no way to accurately determine the current charge, so you'll inevitably over-charge it and damage the compressor. Putting anything in the system other than what should be there is also a bad idea (stop-leak and similar products) and will damage things eventually. Your best bet is to just fix the leak properly.
  12. Yep definitely worth a try. A friend of mine had a Porsche Cayenne that had 130k on the clock and the transmission had never been serviced. It started shifting badly and he took it to a gearbox specialist and they did something called a "power-flush". I wouldn't normally recommend flushing any gearbox but in his case it worked and was still working fine a couple of years later. Probably just had some dirt lodged somewhere.
  13. I hate to sound negative but I can't see that going very far, legal protection is far less for private sales than when buying from a dealer. The car only has to be roadworthy and match the advert description, it doesn't have to be fault-free. Even then the seller could just argue that the faults weren't present when it was sold, how is Adam to prove otherwise? I would take it as a life lesson and always get a pre-purchase inspection in future. I'm still hopeful that these issues can be easily remedied and aren't anything serious.
  14. With this crazy heat I've been looking at remote start systems. They're not that expensive to buy, I found a pretty highly rated kit for only about £160, not sure how much installation would be. Anyone ever messed around with these? Apparently they are legal if someone is within 1000 feet of the car, so would be fine to fire the car up to cool it down half an hour before going somewhere. Not sure its ideal for the engine to be idling that long though.
  15. @Rxowner has the transmission ever been serviced? Hopefully it has, at that mileage it should have been done twice but once would be better than never.
  16. Tyres is definitely a possibility. You might also try *carefully* putting the car in S-mode and leaving it in first gear and see if the hum is present, then shift it up into 2nd and see if it changes at all, then 3rd. Warm the car up first before doing this as high revs aren't good on a cold engine, and be very careful to pay attention to the road.
  17. STOP! Don't do this, this is a common mistake. The codes are not a diagnosis, they are an indication of a *fault condition*. Most error codes can have multiple possible causes and this one is just the same - https://www.fixdapp.com/blog/p0037-code If you start throwing parts at problems, especially cheap ebay parts, you're likely to A) not fix the original problem and/or B) create new ones Take it to someone who knows what they're doing and have them diagnose it for you, it will be far cheaper than throwing parts at it, because you'll run out of money before you run out of guesses.
  18. If you just want a drain+fill you could take it to Toyotec, they've been great in my experience. I don't know if they can do a "full gearbox recondition" which I'm guessing means a rebuild, but the solenoids are external so if one or more has failed then I think any competent garage should be able to take care of that. Even if you do need a full rebuild I'm sure they could recommend someone.
  19. Hi John Thanks for this, I have since learned that it's not actually legal to tow anything if the vin plate of the vehicle doesn't specify a towing weight. Being a JDM import mine doesn't, so I'm guessing this is all moot.
  20. Also since you apparently got a lot of documentation with it, check if it's always been to the same garage in the last year or so. If it has you might want to give them a call and ask if they've noticed the humming noise or the lights on the dash and whether the previous owner had asked them to investigate.
  21. Tell us more about the humming noise, does it occur in neutral or only in gear? Stationary or when moving? If moving what speeds, is it constant regardless of speed? Does the pitch change with speed? Does it sound rotational?
