  1. Definitely get a second key, if you lose your only key it'll cost thousands to fix. These guys were very helpful when I needed a spare key: https://www.car-keys-online.com
  2. My 2006 Harrier has this, it's very useful indeed. Just got a powered cool box for our trip to scotland 🙂
  3. Nope no smart entry, just a normal remote key.
  4. There's no mention of this in the owners manual so I'm going to assume it doesn't have one. Turned it off again.
  5. I was playing around with the customisation stuff on Techstream and noticed under Security that I had "Intrusion sensor" set to disabled. What is this? I wondered if it was perhaps a movement sensor for when the car is locked, but after enabling it I sat in the car, locked the doors with the fob, waited until the security light started blinking and then waved my hands around but nothing happened. Is that what it's meant to be or is it something else? Maybe it is a movement sensor but my car doesn't have one.. anyway, hopefully someone knows the answer! Mark
  6. A proper service can never hurt the transmission. The lack of service beforehand however, can. Unfortunately it's very easy for technicians to get blamed for problems that occur after a fluid change which is why they might be reluctant to do it. If you change the fluid and the transmission goes out at some point later, it was the lack of service initially that killed it, not the service.
  7. Nice one, I wish I had the time, the space and the skills to do such things.
  8. I’m a bit OCD with rattles. I had a beemer once that drove me nuts for weeks because it started squeaking from the nearside dash. Eventually tracked it down to a piece of polystyrene inside the A-pillar trim.
  9. I noticed a few days ago that my front driver side door was rattling a bit at certain speeds above 40mph, just enough to be annoying, with nothing in the door pocket. Sounded like possibly a loose screw. Today I pulled the door card off and found it was indeed rattling when shaken, it took quite a bit of shaking at different angles but eventually a total of four 5p bits fell out. You live and learn, don't put coins in the door pockets!
  10. As far as I can tell “approved used” means nothing other than “we approve of you giving us money for this”. Treat it as such and do your due diligence as you would when buying a car anywhere else.
  11. I don't know your area but in my opinion definitely independent.
  12. B sounds suspiciously cheap, will they give you any kind of warranty on it? Will they even warrant that it works correctly when you pick the car up? If so you might want to spend some time reading up on how to test drive an automatic to make sure it’s shifting correctly, not slipping and going into lockup when it’s supposed to.
  13. This is what I would do: 1) Get an independent trusted qualified technician to provide an opinion on the appropriate way to correct the situation 2) If their opinion is anything other than a complete system replacement, get a second opinion If two qualified techs agree that it can be done without replacing the entire system, go ahead but as John said insist on some kind of parts+labour written warranty for the compressor. Otherwise, full system. Imagine how galling it would be if you agree to let them go the cheaper route and have the compressor fail two and a half years down the line. They'll be able to claim that it was unrelated and you'll be left out of pocket.
  14. Be careful buying something that significant very cheaply. Sometimes the cheapest way out is the most expensive way in.
  15. If all the service invoices are with the car you should be able to check that it's been done.
  16. I think it's officially "sealed for life". However they don't really care if the car makes it past 100k miles or not. Ideally it would have been done around 50k but I think most owners probably don't bother. I bought my RX with 77k on the clock and it had never been done, it was the very first thing I did.
  17. Depends what it needs. Check the service schedule and history and see what's been done and when and go from there. I would expect at least: - Oil and oil filter - Air filter - Cabin filter - General check over If it has an automatic transmission you probably want to change the fluid if it hasn't been done. I don't know much about hybrids but there's probably hybrid specific stuff that should be done.
  18. Small green window? What's that?
  19. Thanks for looking! The vin plate doesn't show anything related to towing, pretty sure towing is a no with these.
  20. It was probably a bargain given that yours doesn't work 😛
  21. When you first turn the key to position 2 all of the dash lights should illuminate as a test.
  22. Bilstein are usually very highly rated.
