  1. Not sure if analysis can be done in the same way as it’s done with engine oil, but a competent tech can certainly sieve it to check for metal shavings. If your transmission has a dipstick you can pull it to check the fluid, if it looks black and smells burned then it’s pretty well used up. If it looks dark with a hint of cherry red that’s a good sign and suggests it may have been changed at some point. If the box shifts ok then hopefully changing it soon will buy you a good long lifetime with it.
  2. Also just to add a bit more explanation of why a double drain and fill isn't necessary, although you might only get half or two thirds of the fluid out, once refilled there is then plenty of new fluid going around the unit which is enough to keep the seals pliable and lubricate sufficiently. It's the lack of clean fluid that causes damage rather than the presence of used fluid, if that makes sense.
  3. Also since mine was done late (77k as opposed to the ideal 50k) I did it again at 97k, although that was mostly because it was easier to get the car to Toyotec while I'm working from home.
  4. I had the same query when I got my RX with 77k on it. Advice from Toyotec was to replace the filter assembly and drain and fill once, doing it twice isn't necessary although I'm sure if you insisted it could be done. A double drain and fill is usually only necessary if the box doesn't have a replaceable filter assembly.
  5. There's really little point in just draining the fluid and not changing the filter assembly. Don't flush it, if anyone says "flush" - run away. Probably a bit far from you but I'd always recommend Toyotec in Redhill, they'll give you a loan car too while it's being done.
  6. The arms themselves however are quite pricy and Lexus-only, about £515 for the pair.
  7. From memory I think my local garage quoted the book time (8-9h) because they don’t know the shortcut that an experienced lexus tech knows.
  8. The arms were 1.5h per side, plus 1h for geometry and adjustment which needs doing after changing them.
  9. I had the arms done on mine, my local garage quoted a huge labour rate but Russell at Toyotec did it for a lot less. There’s a trick to it apparently, so find the right tech and it’ll not be too expensive. I’ll dig out my invoice for you a bit later
  10. Really? So if I have a panoramic roof and fit a roof box using Thule bars it's going to shatter the moon roof?
  11. Can you see where it’s leaking from? Are you sure it’s completely random or is there some pattern to it, like just after you’ve used the washer, or when going up or down a hill?
  12. I looked for roof rails a while back and I seem to remember being told they don’t supply them for cars with a moon roof. I also cannot find them anywhere on the toylexparts.com diagrams for my car.
  13. Hopefully not the chap with the hair that looks like cotton candy made with p!ss.
  14. Example: https://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbvehsel4_tab.php?emulate=roofbar&query=5209&vptype=638548&brand=Thule WingBar black
  15. True that, I was mostly just curious. In other slightly related news I’ve discovered that Thule make roof bars that clamp to the bodywork and so don’t need the rails (which I apparently can’t get because of the moon roof). I see a roof box in my future 😄
  16. Ah I see, it requires a roof rack, that makes more sense. I was just confused because the image appeared to show it attached seemingly without roof rails.
  17. I just stopped caring about the paintwork on my cars, much easier 😄 As long as it's not rusting I don't care. Any rust spots on the bonnet I scrape, treat and then paint over clumsily with a touch-up pen, don't bother with the clear coat.
  18. https://www.lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/parts/lexus-ux/lexus-ux-2018-present/lexus-ux-exterior-interior/lexus-ux-phase-1-bike-holder-mid-rhs/ That appears to be attached without roof rails, is that right? Is it possible to use it on an RX with a sun roof?
  19. That still sounds like something you’d want to avoid
  20. I hope you’re right @Bluesman. It happened to a friend of mine once though, ran the tank dry and ruined the fuel system.
  21. I would expect any half-decent garage to test drive the car afterwards and notice that
  22. Yeah I was just looking, looks like it doesn't! http://japan.toylexparts.com/harrier/521120/acu30w-awpgk/235w/001/3/7701/771280n#sec_77310A Happy days
  23. I never "top off" my fuel when filling up as I know it can damage the charcoal canister. I just went to fill up and used the opposite side of the pump from where my filler cap is, which I've done many times before without issue. This time for whatever reason after the pump clicked off there was a gush of petrol spraying out of the filler cap onto the floor. So now I'm paranoid about having damaged the charcoal canister =/ Is that likely to have happened?
  24. Really? Often? Wouldn’t a garage check the timing on the diagnostics before giving the car back?
