Is there not a mode you can put it in to tell it to just stay in electric mode until it needs to charge itself?

Has anyone used one of these kits to fix a flat tyre? I'm wondering how well they work. Basically it's just a big bottle of sealant that you shove into the tyre through the valve and then inflate it with the compressor. My wife's rav-4 doesn't have a spare wheel, just one of these kits. I attempted briefly to use it to fix a bicycle puncture just to see what would happen, before noticing that the sealant expired 9 years ago 😄 So tomorrow I will get a new bottle of sealant from the stealership just in case we ever need it, but I'm really curious to know how well they work.

Or maybe he just wanted to accelerate to the speed limit since the road had opened up, or he realised the speed limit had changed? It's common for cameras to be pointed downhill. Cameras cost money which we pay for through taxes, so it's sort of in the public interest for them to pay for themselves, so they tend to be in locations where they are more likely to catch people, such as at the bottom of a steep hill. Bloody annoying when you do get caught though I'm sure.

It's so easy to do accidentally too. Lots of incidences of speed signs being obscured. Cruise control helps but you can still end up speeding on downward slopes.

I use the speedometer on my car to do this 😉 TomTom Go is quite good for speed cameras though, particularly average zones. It shows you when they start and end and shows your average speed quite travelling through them. I haven't seen any other apps that can do this.

LS400: Which tyres?
m4rkw replied to rich1068's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
I've been using Goodyear Vector 4Seasons which seem to perform well. Some say they are noisy in the cabin, unfortunately I can't comment on this as I've nothing to compare them to with this car. I am planning on trying the michelins next time around. My fronts are worn to 3-4mm after 22000 miles, don't know if this is good or not. Rears are 7mm after similar mileage. Edit: this is an on RX not an LS! Probably should have mentioned that first haha -
I don't normally recommend flushes but a friend of mine had a gearbox with some kind of shifting issue on a Porsche and he had it "power-flushed" (whatever that means) by a gearbox specialist and it cured the issue. Might be worth looking into since it's likely much cheaper than a rebuild. You'll want to make sure that whatever machine they use is going to use the correct fluid for your unit and not some generic flushing ATF.

We were originally planning to holiday in France as my dad has a holiday cottage in Brittany, but then the quarantine changes came in about a week before we were due to travel so we had to rebook at the last minute. My wife found the Cairngorm Bothies and they looked lovely so we went for that. Being in Scotland we assumed it'd be raining all the time but although that was true on the way up (drove through the storm) once we got there the weather was very good, a little bit of rain but only light and we had a few very warm sunny days and even went to the beach. The bothies themselves are fun to stay in, my little one and dog both loved it. Not good if you need your tea though - the wood-burning stove takes quite a long time to boil a kettle and the electricity is from a solar array so wouldn't have enough juice for an electric kettle. It's such a lovely area though, I want to move there!

Hi Dawn Welcome to the forum. You've replied to a thread from 2003 here 🙂 Does the buzzer sound when you move the key to position 2 or only when you actually start the car? Do any lights show up on the instrument cluster?

Makes me feel like someone slipped something in my drink.. -
Also scotland has some amazing roads. Lecht road and Old Miltary Road are a really fun drive even in my old boat.

Looks lovely there. We just got back from the Scottish highlands last friday, about 580 miles. Stayed in a bothie (wood cabin in a forest), was lovely.

Key fob... won't...

It is interesting that a power cycle of the house made it go away permanently. The problem was occurring persistently, so whatever the interference was was constant. You'd think that most electronic devices with radios would eventually go back into the same steady state after a reboot. Who knows though, things are so complicated these days, could be a very edge-case bug in some embedded firmware somewhere that triggered an endless loop somehow involving a radio and then triggered the interference. If it happens again try turning off electronic devices one by one, would be really interesting to know what was responsible. -
I'm still very curious to understand how your gearbox went from clean fluid to black and sludgy in 2000 miles. I can only think that either it seriously overheated or there was water ingress, or both.

I don't want to get involved in whatever dispute you guys may or may not have, but lets just try to remember that we're all here trying to help eachother. Sometimes we post things (me included) that aren't so helpful, but I don't think we should be overly critical of people trying to help eachother. Barry's post about past forum threads was worthwhile in my opinion because many people (again me included) are often too lazy to search old threads. I actually made a point to do this when I read it but still haven't 😄 and John's link was helpful too - although it didn't answer the specific question in relation to these RX cars, it did teach me that carrying roof loads on cars with panoramic roofs is not unheard of and perhaps even common. I had actually googled for stories like this recently but didn't find this one. Nobody has all the answers to every issue but I for one appreciate any and all help.

I dunno I reckon it's aliens or Deep State spying on Piers with 5G antennas in order to infect him with COVID-19 via his keyfobs. -
Haha fair enough 🙂 I chased Lexus today and got: "Thank you for your email confirming the frame number for your vehicle. Unfortunately here in the UK we are unable to access the technical data for imported vehicles. However, I have still asked our Product Technical department whether they are able to provide any information. " So I replied with: "No worries. I'd be grateful if you could answer the question as it relates to European-spec RX-300 (so V6 engine) cars of the same year (2006), as I believe they are technically identical in terms of the chassis and panoramic roof. I know several people who are interested in the answer to this question. If your other department then come back with clarification on my specific car it will be interesting to be able to compare them." Hopefully that will get some info out of them.

Unfortunately this article doesn't really answer the question. "In most cases, placing a rooftop carrier directly on top of your panoramic roof is not a good idea because it can damage parts of the vehicle and cause you some fairly costly repairs" I take this to mean that the carrier is somehow resting on the glass, which would obviously be a terrible idea. It then goes on to say that when choosing a roof box, make sure you choose one that the manufacturer (of the roofbox) says is compatible. This is all well and good, but the issue is that the manufacturer of the *car* is (apparently / sometimes) saying don't do it. No roofbox maker is going to cover the cost of the glass repair if something breaks, so I think we need Lexus to provide more detail here. I will try to chase them today to get back to me with my query. I think I'm probably going to have to pester them with specific questions to get the necessary detail about why they're saying don't do it (if they still are). I can see it going one of three ways: 1) They say in most cases it will be ok but they will take no liability for damage 2) They say it's ok as long as the box never rests on the glass (it's possible that their initial statement of "don't do it" may have been related to issues caused by people doing this rather than using bars that rest on points on the frame) 3) They reiterate their stance of advising against it, and perhaps add some clarification or technical explanation of how the glass could crack even with a carrier resting on bars joined to the frame The fact that they seem to refuse to sell roof rails for cars with the panoramic roof tends to suggest that 3) is most likely, unfortunately. But it would still be good to get a full explanation.

Assuming nothing else is pending (brakes, suspension components, rust, engine.. ) I think I'd fix it. Is the engine in that one the same as the LS400? Matt Farah took his to a million miles, they last a long time if looked after.
