I'm reading that it's interference (98).
It's not seized - spun over which leads me to assume bent valves.

Camshaft pulley has fallen apart on one side and it's skipped 4 teeth. Happened on the motorway. What would you say my options are going to be?

Hi guys, need to service my Ls400 - what oil do people go for? Get the occasional wisp of blue on startup after leaving it for a couple of days so I'm assuming oil has thinned and is slipping past valve stem oil seals? Should I go for a thicker oil or stick with recommendations? Oil tech has come a long way in 21 years!

As with all such problems, it's not caused by cars, old or new, it's caused by people. Too many people. People Produce Pollution, even if it's just their personal exhaust gases.
As for lowering the car, I've never seen the point personally, not with speed bumps everywhere and the pothole proliferation of recent years. The point is that the car will look better. I don't want it too low - just a light drop. I don't like to see too much air between the arch and the tyre.

Haha - different strokes for different folks, fellas!

I know but it shouldn't be done to such a fine carriage surely 😟
Can't see why not? I mean - the styling's a bit marmite but the turbo v8 can't be sniffed at! The LS400 is legendary but it's not perfect; just try opening the centre armrest when there's a drink in the cupholder.... or drive off after a rainstorm with the window down!

I squeezed a 300bhp Nissan turbo engine into my Ford Capri so I'm quite partial to a bit of Frankenmotoring...

I took the plastic cover off my 98 but it looked crap so put it back on!

I think it's great - probably wouldn't take too much to get it going

Need to drop the front a couple of inches without breaking the bank. Just a pair of decent lowering springs would suffice but I'm finding nothing.

Kwik fit are incompetent - the whole company is *******! Their 4 wheel alignment is a con
-
The outer edge of my front 2 is worn out and I've recently had the wheels aligned. I do have wider wheels on there but i can't see how that would affect it?

Car looks fine, just with some dodgy looking dipped plastics. Under bonnet corrosion is about normal - it just needs a clean.
-
Mine was blocked up and broke. I bought a £16 replacement from eBay and the car stinks of fuel near the back - i doubt think it's sealing

Now.. i recently got my cambelt and waterpump done by my friend and I didn't get a receipt. I suppose i should get him to write something for me!
I have a receipt for one at 90k but it was 11 years ago so I got it done a few months back at 125k to be sure. Did the pump and stat at the same time as it was all apart

Looks great - what suspension are you running?
-
Is only playing through the right hand speakers. Does anyone know why this might be? It's fine on the radio or CD. Cheap adapter? Tape setting? Mk4 1998
-
Is it engine speed or road speed it increases with?

Probably not a good idea to stick anything on the airbag - unless you want a new pair of wooden eyebrows if you stack it!

The tank sits behind the rear seat in a upright position .the removal of the fabric panels in the boot gives access to the tank and filler pipe which can be removed for inspection .
Before you go down this road try another filler cap.
I order my new cap but thought I'd check behind the panel you mentioned anyway. All seems present and correct - no fuel smells. No fuel smells under the bonnet either. The plot thickens.
Thanks for the advice so far, guys.

It's also started to smell of fuel a bit when i get in the car - seems to go when i move off, though. Not sure how i can remedy this one? Is the tank easily accessible to inspect?
-
Hmm - odd one. I used the petrol pump to lever it down and it seemed to move back with a little resistance. I've been having intermittent pressure issues (as in the cap making odd sucking noises when the car is running) i wonder if it's linked?
Engine dead 😭

Wouldn't want to lose power and mpg by going to a mk3.
Valves are bent. Just weighing up the best options now. 2nd hand head?
What could've caused this?! 😞
