  1. @Spacewagon52 if you can't afford to fill a tank then possibly you're running a car too expensive for your income? Your statement is downright pig headed snobbish and full of c**p. I've never had a high income but the cars I've had have All been top of the range and I've always filled their tanks to at least 3/4. So far this year I've been on furlough (excluding weekends which I don't work anyway) 80% of the time. So with only 80% of my wages coming in its hit hard but nevertheless I still fill my car up at least 3/4. Am I put off by your statement? YES
  2. I'd suspect that whoever swapped that radio unit and slightly damaged the dash also either forgot to plug a plug in (there are a few behind the unit) or the replacement unit had/has a fault within it. Let us know what your Lexus dealer says.
  3. Go on YouTube and there you'll find videos of is250 brakes being stripped down to fit new discs.
  4. Hi Philip and welcome to the best Lexus forum there is. Go to the RX section and there you'll find a helluva lot of info and you can ask questions and get accurate responses soon after.
  5. Snake oil? That's a medicinal type oil. ZX1 is a friction reducer. For example. A neighbour of mine has an old new shape jaguar S type 3.0. It stays still in his garage for 363 days of the year. Every time he started it the top end tappeted its nuts off till lubricated. Now it doesn't coz I recommend ZX1. He poured a bottle in and ran the car till operating temperature. Now whenever he starts his car No More Tappety Noise. ZX1 is a formulated oil that basically coats all metal with a micron thick coating that stays on the metal like a magnet. All my cars for the past 30 years have had ZX1 and all those cars ran sweeeeeeet.
  6. Blimey. I thought I'd post about a chat I had with a gearbox specialist of 35+ years. Oh the company is based in Huddersfield and I wouldn't go there because no he's Not full of s*** but does know what he's talking about mostly but because he doesn't accept just how good ZX1 is. Simplez
  7. Well because of all the pros and cons 'arguments' I thought I'd find a long standing transmission specialist of great rebute. Had about a 30 min chat. Jist of his 30+ year experience was no need to drain and fill gearbox oil. The oil used is a fully synthetic oil which never loses its viscosity. He also said that over time crud builds up, and as it's very recently been posted here, and draining up to 4 litres and replacing it can swirl up the settled crud and do more harm than good. However he stumped me a bit as he's had 4 litres out whilst draining but I told him Lexus only get out between 1.5 and 2 litres. Another scenario I put to him. What about draining upto 2 litres and refilling annually. His view is no point really as the new oil will get dirty very quickly. But he also said its up to the individual but because there isn't a crystal ball you can't predict what is going to happen. But again no harm or good would prevail by doing it yearly. Another scenario was, what if a car from new had 4 litres of transmission fluid drained at 40k mile intervals. If he knew that car had it done every 40k miles and he bought that car at 100k miles he'd do the oil at 120k miles. So basically there really isn't any reason to do it but there isn't any reason not to do it. Me? I think I'll get a quote for a gearbox overhaul lol.
  8. Kiefels hasn't been on this forum since 2018. In his profile there's an email address for him. Try emailing him to get more info on how he got the sub speaker out.
  9. I was a bit mistaken by a previous post where I said about a door handle it was actually the inside door handle. I've just seen a video but on a RX so quite possibly the same. Have a look and see. https://youtu.be/iwAsylyXbfo
  10. So it's got 18's theat is a standard size so shouldn't have any insurance implications. You can change to 17's 225/45/17 front and 245/45/17 rear. However there's the expense of getting 4 wheels and tyres. However you could Google around and try and find a swap.
  11. What size wheels are on it? 17's are a great compromise between grip and comfort.
  12. This is a factual post. I've had Two is300h cars. Both from Lexus dealers and quoted as Premier Premium. Both cars were 98% identical. Same colour inside and out, same spec But my 1st ones suspension was hard and its ML wasn't as I expected it to be. 2nd one was sublime. Suspension wonderful and the ML outstanding. So the fact is even in identical cars with same spec the sound systems can be totally different. As for comparing none ML and ML in bass. ML walks all over none ML. I've had a few lexus curtacy cars of which none had ML and they were very much lacking in sub bass. There endeth my sermon.
  13. Hi. Personally I'd say No unless you specifically want a manual and are mechanically minded. Go for the auto. Much better car.
  14. Actually there is a video on YT specifically on how to change door handle. Also look up a thread on here from 2018 where Normski2 did a write up with photos on changing the door handle.
  15. Bluetooth dongle in armrest. I've posted what I bought and the sound is brilliant. Bass is accurate depending on what your listening too. BBC1 weekly drum & bass sounds awesome (so longs as you have ML) Anyway hopefully I've attached pic of my set up.
  16. John how are you using your phone via USB for satnav? Which USB socket are you using, hopefully it isn't one in the armrest as I'm using that for Bluetooth streaming.
  17. Phew what a read lol. Now folks take a break. Have a kitkat (or choccy bar of your choice) and chill. I've forgotten what the OP asked first off.
  18. Yes but fact is there are 2 different wired mirror types for is250. Luckily I've bought the only one available in black with the 2 plugs. I've also bought a black one with just 1 plug so I can test the possibilities. My passenger side mirror has TWO plugs so I have to assume my driver side should too. I suspect that in my cars history it's has a few prangs. I know it's had a windscreen fitted. The front driver side fog light lens has a nice scrape on it. I also suspect the original mirror got mullered in its past and the current one fitted which by the way has never worked whilst I've had my car. I'm stating Facts not here say like you. 🍻
  19. Well I think I've found something googling and funnily enough I thank Normski2 for his thread of July 2018 where he took photos and a full description how to change the door handle of all things. Attached is the photo that answers my question. As you can see where I have a Red box this car in the photo has a Black box. It's the box above the large speaker and left of the mid range speaker. That box is the mirror controller ecu. You can see that the wire from the mirror goes into two. One plug goes to the loom and the other to the mirror ecu. So basically if ever you need to replace your driver or passenger side mirrors be aware there are 2 types. 1 with only one plug a 2 one with 2 plugs. It'll depend on the spec of your car if it has fully electric mirrors or just heated.
  20. Eh up Mike where did you get that dash cover from? Looks quite standard Lexus.
  21. Hi Oz. There's been quite a bit on this subject very recently here. There are those who most strongly say no need. There are those who say most strongly yes. There are only a few who are in the middle. Lexus quoted you £150? That my friend is only for a partial drain and topped up with anything up to 2.5 litres. Main thing is how many miles has your car done? Generally speaking and personally too it is suggested to do it at around 60k miles. Yes 100k miles is attainable but I'd say that's for cars which do around 20-30k miles a year and mainly on motorways. I've had my is250 6 months now. Git it with just under 80k miles on it but I had Lexus Stockport do a partial drain and fill and I did notice a difference. When my car goes in again for its service there I'll get them to do another partial drain and fill. This is purely for my piece of mind and my belief my transmission will benefit from it. So basically if your car has over 60k miles then certainly get it done. Don't be under the illusion that all 7-8 litres of transmission oil will be drained. No. Thats a massive job. What you've seen on YT is a partial drain and fill. That quote from your Lexus dealer is a very good one. Do it if your car is over 60k miles.
