  1. When I started driving for a living I acquired multiple A toZ books. I must have had a good 12 or more. I would change them about every 2 years or so because I would mark off the street where I was delivering to in highlighter pen, pages became hallucinogenic with the different colours I used. There were satnavs available but they were chunky and horrible looking. I got my first satnav when tomtom brought out the One. A slimline model which was pocket friendly. As soon as I got it delivering in Runcorn became so much stress free, stupid road system they have there. So my answer to the original question of this thread is Satnav. But since the OP has mentioned the nav in his Lexus then my alternate answer is Satnav with the assistance of Google maps on my phone.
  2. Mmmmmmm interesting. The last service stamped in the book on my car was from Toyota and funnily in Edgeware too. Then an 18 month gap before I got it serviced at Lexus Stockport. Taking it in again for a Major service on Friday the 13th lol. Glad I'm on a service plan.
  3. Sorry but you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time or you are of the nervous disposition. It was unfortunate that, not sure if it was a BMW M4 or a C63S merc back firing but personally I find it amusing.
  4. That's one of the funniest posts I've read in a good while. Nice one.
  5. About 100 foot away from where he parks his cars is a garage who I know he knows. That garage looks dodgy and I suspect they do any quick fixes for him. Funnily I did a review on him late last week and it isn't showing. So I did another today. Was sick at looking at the myriad of 5* reviews lol.
  6. Absolutely Linas. These so called regulatory authorities and the like and trade unions for that matter are utter useless compared to 10 and more years ago. That's why dodgy car dealers are dodgy because they know how crap these 'bodies' are.
  7. Linas, I did try to use my statutory rights. I contacted trading standards but surprisingly they couldn't help. And like I said even though the guy was a pleasant one that hid his underlying side which is full of 'merd' 💩. If you look on auto trader for a SE-L 08 plate or newer and see a blueish one for sale in Oldham that's the dealer Super One Traders. The plus points tho of the car it's a cracker, love it to bits and I got a ruddy good price on a mondeo diesel I chopped in, £500 more than any other dealer or WBAC.
  8. Hi Tony and welcome to Lexus ownership and the best Lexus forum there is. You need to check the services done on that car on the Lexus website under service I think. You'll need to register your car on the website before you can check what's been done. Reason I say this is because of the mileage the cam belt has had to be changed at least once. Also you can check what's been done to that car whilst it's been in Lexus all those times for example new brake caliper fitted. I suggest you do this ASAP for 100% piece of mind.
  9. When I bought mine last year and I took it to Lexus for a service and MOT they stated they wouldn't MOT it as they'd fail it. Fail it I asked, why? Because of a weeping rear shocker. The car then was 13 years old with 84k miles one owner from new and Full lexus service history. Unlucky me I suppose as it cist me over £650 to replace both rear shocks but I got a free MOT. And the dealer who sold me the car? Full of BS and wasn't in the least interested. Funny, he's got another SE-L 2008 in a light blue for sale at a very reasonable price. And yes I've just posted a semi scathing review of him.
  10. Why do you worry about the cost of E5 when you've stated you've been on super unleaded 90% of the time. All you've got to do is go 100% of the time if your car falls in the narrow bandwidth of our model build.
  11. Hi Kam. Firstly I'm gobsmacked you need a top box on a RX. When I had mine the boot was just right sizewise for a family of 5 with more than enough clobber for a week away. But hey ho. As for a proximity alarm I'd look for a car alarm specialist not necessarily near to you but one or two with a good reputation.
  12. Hi Jon. Firstly don't be put off a 2006 or 2007 car. Just because of the E10 fuel. Super unleaded is the way to go. I bought my 2007 SE-L with a myriad of scratches on it. That didn't bother me. 200 odd quid later just a few scratches. Bodywork is easy to remedy. High milers aren't a problem so longs as a full service history preferably dealer service. The price of is250 are dropping I've seen probably because of the E10 situation. Don't just go off photos. Go see the car if you can. What you want is that All electrics work. Check the rear wheels rotate freely ( our cars have a poor design brake caliper in which the slide pins seize due to lack of grease maintenance) You won't find a mint 12/13 year old car. There isn't one. There are however very good ones. I've not seen those cars for sale recently but have high expectations. That 06 car with an interior rattle. Are you sure it's interior? A lot of our cars have suffered with the exhaust heat shield coming adrift and causing a rattle.
  13. Get some Hammerite Kurust on any rust to cure it and stop it spreading.
  14. Hi Jason and welcome to Lexus ownership and the best Lexus forum there is. Yes the is200 is a superb car and most reliable and a good looker. Good of you to post a few pics, always welcome. You really have to look in the gen 1 IS section of the forum. There you'll find lots of posts on modifying servicing etc etc. There are 2 threads in particular. One is a few years old now but we'll worth the read. The other is relatively newish and ongoing and again well worth the read. Looks like you've got yourself a corker of a car. Enjoy it.
  15. So just what is it you sadly have to disagree with Linas? I've not compared the satnav screen with any other car. I stated my personal opinion. As for the quality of the rear view camera. On my car it's clear as clear can be. So it wasn't on yours but that's just how it goes. Just because yours was naff doesn't mean on another car it was naff too. Example. Mark Levinson system. Car is300h premium. 2 is300h built same year both registered within a month of each other. Both cars identical in every respect except one. The ML system. My 1st 300h system was awful. 2nd one was outstanding. So it goes to show just because something is naff in a car doesn't mean its naff in another similar car. Paul Simply wants to know is there significant benefits to having the screen or not. So please don't go on and on and on and on like you do. You go well and beyond what's necessary.
  16. Have you priced up a genuine OEM radiator? Have you looked on Lexus Parts Direct? You may be surprised.
  17. Hi Paul. There are neither benefits or not beneficial to have the touch screen in the is250. It's all down to personal choice. If you think the screen looks dated then why did you go for such an old car? I'm not having a go at you but our old cars are still arguably the best cars on the road. Yes the screen isn't as clear as a modern car but it's far more adequate for its use. My rear view camera is as clear as a bell. That clarity depends on ambient light. The nav is also much better than adequate. I have no issues what so ever with mine. What is it you expect from a 2009 car?
  18. Hi Baz and welcome to Lexus ownership and the best Lexus forum there is. What year is your car and what made you want to get it? Photos are always welcome and expected lol. Don't know anything about meets but keep your eyes open in the relevant parts of the forum.
  19. Hi Rod. Funnily even though I've had my car a year now I only noticed yesterday the driver side headlight looked much duller than the passenger side. The root causes was residue from a wrap that was on the lights when I bought the car. Don't understand why residue left on driver side and not passenger side which actually look like new. I used a solvent to try to remove the residue but that didn't work so I used a 1200 grit wet n dry paper with the solvent. No change. 800 grit paper with water and lots of elbow grease. Residue 90% gone so then 1200 grit then 2000 grit and then Maguires ultimate compound then a polish. Overall over an hour But there are very fine cracks. They're still there and I'm of the thinking it's down to age and them perished but sunlight over the years. Not an MOT failure as they've been there since I got the car and got it MOT'd. If those cracks are really unsightly then the only thing is to replace with a used item.
  20. The one from amazon is the one I got. The foam is unbelievable thick and a swine to swill off the ground. This foam sticks like the proverbial lol.
  21. Body shops are the way to go. Even if only to get their advice. A good body shop will have the camera system and computer. The camera scans the car at a myriad of locations angles etc then the computer makes a paint code to match that car. Why? Because older cars fade. Spraying brand new paint on a faded car is pointless as it'll show like a sore thumb. Not all body shops have this expensive system so a visit in person is the only way to go. Luckily I know of such a body shop of which I've posted previously. Red is a bugger of a colour to match and I thoroughly recommend go round body shops and check them out.
  22. Troublesome is? In America yes but not here. We have brains and know how to bump start cars.
  23. Yes thanks Barry and Linas. I think I went a bit astray slightly confusing myself (which isn't hard lol). You both right in a way as I am. Moving the thread towards cars wasn't an intention as a hydrogen internal combustion engine is more suited to the large vehicles. Excellent picture of the Toyota Mirai showing its tanks. If I remember correctly comparing the equivalent of mpg then 1 gallon of petrol gives the same range as 0.5kg of hydrogen in a cell car. But anyway thanks for the replies which are excellent. Thought provoking.
  24. Re the size of fuel tank needed for a hydrogen powered car. 1st example. The Honda Clarity. This car seats 5, has a good sized boot, has an EPA range of 350 miles and the tank I think is actually 2 well hidden within the gubbins of the car. This Honda is a fuel cell car at present but when it was featured on Top Gear a good few years ago James May clearly stated the car had an engine which ran of hydrogen but acted like a generator charging some batteries which powered an electric motor or two. He actually really liked that car. 2nd example. The Toyota Mirai. A true hydrogen cell car with a fuel tank size not much bigger than a similar sized cars petrol/diesel tank. So in those cars the fuel tank is Not 2 to 3 times bigger. The JCB machines which have been converted to hydrogen their fuel tanks are no bigger than the diesel tanks of the diesel powered machines. JCB have the small digger machines purely BEV for the reasons within the video.
  25. Barry. I think you're wrong about hydrogen tanks being Big. From what I've seen they'll be no bigger than a petrol tank. But that's in a case of a 20 ton digger. Nicely put Linas your last post. Agree 100%
