  1. Hi Vicentiu and welcome to Lexus ownership and the best Lexus forum there is. Which model do you have and do you know it's service history? Since you're in Congleton I would recommend contacting Lexus Stockport. Get them to do an inspection and a service and ask about a curtesy car. It may cost a bit more than an independent garage but they'll do a trusted thorough job. I use them on my is250 and I know they're thorough.
  2. Wow. If the petrol tank and shields have rusted that badly then what would concern me very much is just where else has it rusted beyond repair? I'd get a full inspection done coz I'd suspect there's plenty more killer rust on that car especially where its come from and spent most of its life there I'd suspect.
  3. What a bummer. I dant get over how they used superglue to fit them when they actually fit via clips in the windscreen frame. Clips are dead cheap to replace, look on ebay. Lexus Parts Direct have the side trim pieces at a reasonable price. I got one from a breakers in Accrington. As for new trims with new glass? Not a chance. Because the trim is not attached to the glass itself. You can only get them replaced if the fitter breaks them whilst taking them off.
  4. That's a shame Ant. As for flushing. There's always pros and cons to flushing. Up until I started using dealers to service my cars I religiously used a flushing agent in my cars. I did oil changes at 5k intervals. I drove my cars hard. I assume you like to floor your V6 and I don't blame you, I do to regularly lol. I wouldn't worry that using a flush will release gunk and block an oil way. It won't because you've changed your oil regularly and drove your car 'perfectly '. I'm gobsmacked in this day and age of Internet shopping that you can't get ZX1. Have you tried amazon for example? Do you gave a friend abroad who could get it and send it on to you?
  5. Yeah it's stupid how I see some folk wearing sunglasses in all kinds of weather, not drivers but pedestrians.
  6. Those photochromic sunglasses were and are totally not for driving with. The night time glasses I thought I still have have been lost somehow but I remember them being absolutely Brilliant along the Snake Pass and over Woodhead pass at 3am in Autumn and Winter. They made the road look so much clearer and in the snow? wow. I'll have to get another pair as I've changed jobs and now start at 2am to drive to bonny Scotland with a 2nd driver.
  7. I can't remember what my night time driving glasses are. Got them over a decade ago but they're of a yellowish colour. Got them from a car show somewhere.
  8. Is this country, well those who write the highway code rules, gone STARK RAVING MAD? Jeez they're planning on fining drivers 5 grand if caught wearing sunglasses. They say if the sun is in your eyes then pull over and stop! Ridiculous. I'm lost for words about this nonsense. I'm a professional driver and I wear polarised sunglasses. I also have night time glasses which are incredible. No more dazzle from on coming cars especially when it's raining. From what I've seen tons of folks are up in arms about this stupidly. What do you think?
  9. Yes very Intriguing how a car one year passes faultlessly then 1 year later its scrapped for being dangerously rusty. Dodgy MOT last year? Who knows. Definitely thick owner lol who hardly got the car serviced. And you'd think a garage that puts a new clutch in would notice severe rust on suspension top mounts yes? Obviously not. He actually went to a different test station and they put down more fail points than the first tester! Wirk that one out. So it does seem there are still bent MOT centres. I dont know how they get around having the car plugged in for an hour (that's how long the test should take and the powers that be are taped in to every test live). As for steerers (their not drivers) who don't know where windscreen wash goes etc is a farce. I was in the understanding that within the theory tests before the driving test involved basic maintenance. If not it ruddy well should be.
  10. What a thread. Tyres are definitely Not the main testing criteria. Tyres should be checked by the cars owner. As for the brake testing rollers set for modern cars! Rollox. The rollers are set for the relevant rulings so all cars of all ages have the same score to pass. TUV v MOT? If someone thinks the gerry version is superior then your MOT tester ain't worth his salt. Every MOT test I've taken my cars to, except the Lexus ones, have had utter stringent tests carried out. The utter pee take of the government helping out financially the public to the tune of 50 sommat quid is a farce. MOT's should be done yearly and ideally at service time and that's how most are done. Why annually? A true example. Someone I know, my wife's ex, who is 80 took his car in for MOT last year and it flew through. Around Christmas time he had to get a new clutch. A month later new brake lines. Next MOT which was earlier this month Catastrophic Failure. So much rust apparently developed that suspension mounts/supports were so rotten, also chassis areas too far gone. If the MOT changed to 2 years then that car of his would have caused deaths not only to him but other car drivers and even pedestrians. Thise cars with advisories over 6 year periods, well if it's still an advisory after 6 years then what justifies it to be an advisory? From what I've just read this more to a 2 year test is just a suggestion. All safety campaign organisations are totally against it as are the motoring organisations. I'm against it too.
  11. Oh dear that's a shame about carplay. Didn't you research the headunit before buying it? I'm sure the ones I've read about have carplay and android auto. Mind you there's a few headunits like yours which look the same.
  12. Well done. The fit looks much better than I've seen on YouTube videos with the same kind of unit.
  13. Blimey you have must have lead a sheltered life John. U2 The biggest band in the world in the 80's. I'm sorry for your illness however. Having that awful disease liking Emmylou Harris.
  14. Yes wait till your car hits 100k unless an issue related to spark plugs occurs. My 07 year car had its plugs changed when it was 6 years old (I'm it's 2nd owner from new) and I can only assume at that time it was the 'norm' to change plugs if they needed it or not. My car is now on 88k Mike's and no ignition or running issues what so ever. It'll be about another 6 or 7 years before my car hits 100k miles so personally I'll wait till then.
  15. A minute to pop them out? Surely you're just taking the left 3 out, the other 3 look a pain in the derier to take out.
  16. The fuel additive I use Linas is used because of the actual experience of a trusted friend who at the time drove well over 300k miles a year and with that additive the fuel consumption was bettered by a few mpg. 3mpg might not sound much but over a year it's quite a mighty sum.
  17. Happy St George's Day everyone. Why is this date so forgotten and not celebrated yet St Patrick's day is? What is wrong with the English people in this great island that they forget the country's patron Saint?
  18. No Linas I'm on about fuel additive. As for engine oil additive there's only one I use and again on every car I've had in the last 30+ years. ZX1 and its a one time only addition. As for the fuel additive Millers Oils Petrol Power Eco Max is dosed 50ml per 50l of fuel. So basically 1 dose per full tank. So 10 doses forc20 tank fulls. I pay about £12 so that makes it £1.20 extra per tank full. Elsewhere on here I've mentioned ZX1, example: a neighbour with an old 3.0l S type jag. Very rattly on start up. After ZX1 quiet as a mouse.
  19. On the smaller screen version which is the same size as original, I'm talking about the CC3, the buttons on the touch screen have been disconnected on the left hand side. It's the buttons on the facia as on the OE unit that work making the CC3 look and operate as standard OE. It's the one I'll be getting later this year.
  20. Good shout. That has actually reminded of a full frontal change on the 2IS which necessitated the bumper shock absorber being removed to facilitate fitment. Blimey have I just swallowed a dictionary? 🤣
  21. Look up Saab Unleashed on YouTube. He's the best android head unit reviewer there is and he shows how to install. But bear in mind he only installs in saabs but you'll get a good idea how to wire it. What do you mean the full screen version won't work in your car? Full screen version of what?
  22. Who knows Linas. I've been using the same additive in all my cars over the past number of decades. Why did I start using it? After I saw the internals of an engine which had done over 300k miles and it was clean, the additive was used from new though but that was enough for me. Also a friend of the time who used it in his diesel saw an improvement in the cars economy on all the cars he drove and he really was a high miler then. I've not seen physical proof E10 is either good or bad for a car. Physical proof is what I follow, not words.
  23. Great news Bilal. Tut tut though forgetting a caliper bolt? Didn't that produce a problem when driving?
  24. Blimey if you trim and remove the front shock absorber then you need to hand yourself into the police for utter stupidly. 😉
  25. I've seen many a thread on charging the car battery on a few different brand car forums. Personally I find it strange/weird that on various cars there are no points other than the battery posts to connect a charger. Also weird/strange that there are various cars with a dedicated negative post to connect a charger to. Also weird/strange that there are cars with dedicated positive posts to connect a charger to. Also weird/strange there are cars with both a negative and a positive post to connect a charger to. No wonder there a folk who wonder how to connect a charger. Me? The only time I've had to connect a battery charger I actually removed the battery then charged it. That's how I first saw it decades ago and it seems the only way to do it and safely even with fancy chargers.
