Well today was MOT day and service day. However yesterday almost all the dash lights came on and I totally lost power steering. I'd also noticed my nextbase 322GW was playing up in that it was switching itself off and on. Anyway I just about got home and disconnected the battery fir 45 minutes. After that things back to normal but I thought I'd better get a new battery as the on in the car was probably past it. Anyway on the way to halfords just a half mile away all the lights came back on and loss of power steering. Bought a yuasa battery and a smart charger. Noticed that the new battery had a sticker recommending a recharge. Got home just and put the new battery on charge. The smart charger info said once the charger showed full it was OK to leave it plugged in as it would maintain the battery. Anyway I got up in the night saw it was full so unplugged it all. This morning I fitted the new fully charged battery, an uprated one and started the car. Oh whilst at halfords when I went to start the car it only just started and I mean only just. The car didn't start on the first button but on the second it purred into life. No dash lights. I didn't have the dash cam connected to the screen, more about that later. Got the car to Stockport Lexus and told them of my plight yesterday and that they check the charging system. I had it booked in also to change the rear diff oil and to my surprise no charge. Wow. Phone call a few hours later saying charging system good. They recommended the air conditioner fluid be changed and that since my cars front wheels were showing toe-in I had the wheel alignment done too. Advisories on scuffed wheels and chipped tyres and lips on rear discs but not that bad. Curtesy car now then I was pleasantly surprised. UX300e. What a car. Never driven an EV before but this car is outstanding. Yes just a 165 mile range if you have some electrics on like radio air con etc. I really like this car. Right the nextbase. I was talking with the guy at Stockport who said there were cases where because of the high heat recently that some units suffered with batteries bulging slightly. I had mine on Charge via my laptop for over 6 hours but it just wasn't holding charge. So my Sunday of mega dash lights were down to the dash cam turning itself off and on and with a poor 12v battery the car thought oh pooh something going on really bad. My old battery has been on charge for 5 hours now. It started off showing 11.7v. It's now showing 12.3v. Not a good showing after 5 hours. So the moral of this and VCS is make sure your 12v battery is in very good health. Just because it shows just below 12v doesn't mean it's in good health. It's worthwhile charging the battery off the car every 2 years from what I've read. That's what I'm going to do. As fir the nextbase? I've binned it. Ordered a new one. The old one I'd got 2 years ago as a reconditioned unit from nextbase themselves. I think with its duff battery it might have been messing up other more sensitive electronics in the car. So here's to another year's motoring trouble free one hopes. New discs and pads will be bought soon.

IS250 - New beginning (bit of an ongoing "project")
Mr Vlad replied to H3XME's topic in Modifications & Tuning
Yeah the sooner the better blacking outvthe cream bits. It does look rather weird as it is but the headliner looks standard. -
Ok but the question is what was the level at at the cars last fill up? I've had similar in my car but I know what its last top up was as I'm sure you do.

Ooops I didn't realise its a diesel. My experience of diesels was to make sure the EGR valve was cleaned (but on the MG ZT I had it installed the EGR bypass and the car loved it) and I always used Millers Oils diesel power ecomax additive plus the obligatory Italian tune once a week.

Hi Mike. This brings back a memory from when I first got my car. Took it to Lexus to continue its full dealer service history and they came back to me with ' sorry but we won't MOT your car as we don't want to fail it'. Reason a weaping stain on one shocker. They quoted me £650ish for the pair. After a haggle I got genuine shockers (rear) supplied fitted £600 so £571 is probably for the pair but get confirmation from that dealer.

Hi Kuljit. You've said your car basically runs rough. How long have you had the car? Do you know the cars service history? Your car has 108k miles therefore I'm assuming the MAF sensor and the throttle body have never been touched. Possible the air filter has never been replaced. Probably the spark plugs have never been replaced. I'd investigate these points before anything else. Browse the forum for similar issues and I'm sure you'll find answers to some of the points I've raised.

As Steve above stated.

I suggest you ask in the 3rd gen IS section. He who started this thread hasn't been on here since September 2019.

Yup. After reading that email an old saying came back to me. Out of politeness I'm not going to say what it is. However the four word saying was abbreviated with the first letter of each word. Illegitimate child slang was one of the words.

2800 miles across 4 countries in an EV....
Mr Vlad replied to ganzoom's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
Looks like it was an outstanding trip and in a favoured EV. How many times did you stop to charge your car or was it charged over night? -
Below is from an email i got from something i subscribe to. Its car related but to do with speed traps etc. This backs up something Linas posted above. Manchester Police have been up to their favourite game of bullying Motorists. On Sunday they were reported in the mainstream media for acting like the gang they are… One victim was retired ex-union official Glen Dyson. He was pulled over by TWELVE police in six cars …for a mis-spaced number plate! He initially thought the so-called police were dealing with a major crime incident, but soon discovered that he and his wife were the criminal masterminds they were actually hunting… Glen said: “When you look at the pictures taken you’d be expecting a major crime incident to be ongoing. No that’s not the case. It’s a dozen plus officers pulling motorists for minor traffic issues and they have six police cars tied up doing this! We have all kinds of incidents, outside of office hours, when you simply cannot get a police officer to save your life. Within the last year our local pub had an altercation and the police were called – they didn’t come. Now in broad daylight, when burglars might be on the prowl, they are all gathered together in the one spot stopping motorists. Is that really a sensible use of police personnel? I am not so sure it is.” Glen’s wife Karen — not being a full time criminal — was understandably shaken, saying: “It was afterwards that I was shaking about what had happened. I had no idea I’d done anything wrong and we’ve had that registration on vehicles for 12 years.” We’ve seen this persecution, accompanied by violence — or the threat of violence — from the so-called police before. A DriveProtect Member was approached by a police thug in a car park last year and, as – amongst other things — he is a youtuber, he started filming the interaction. His reg plate (which he’d paid a significant amount of money for the privilege of using) was slightly mis-spaced. He complied with the thug by answering his questions about who he was etc, but drew the line when he demanded he get out of his car, respectfully declining the invitation. …whereupon the thug launched into a violent tirade against our man, physically dragged him out of the car window, then carted him away to a cell! We see this time and again. If these people don’t get what they want, they use violence, usually as a gang as they are inherently cowards, to achieve their demands. Then they call the victim the criminal, when as in reality its the other way around. Can you imagine these bullies acting this way when they are not in a gang environment? If they did, I’d like to think they would be jumped on by members of the public seeking to protect the victim, who would then presumably call the real Police. I’d like to stress, it’s the so-called “police” who go around persecuting innocent people and trying to impose their supposed “authority” on them that I’m suggesting need to be stamped out. Those who actually do good things for society (you know, catching actual criminals who’ve perpetrated violence, theft, aggression or coercion against other people) I salute. One BTST Member, Tony, who is a retired Kent Police Detective emailed in after a recent blog post to say the real Police “detested traffic cops, or snakes as we called them”. I would imagine they dislike them even more than most members of the Public, as they — and all other sociopathic state persecutors — are surely the reason so many people hate the Police? Assistant Chief Constable Wasim Chaudhry was thankfully on hand to reassure us that we are wrong: “Greater Manchester Police is taking an increasingly proactive approach to fighting, preventing and reducing crime to make our region as safe as possible for those who live, work and travel within it.“ Wow, thanks for your service Wasim! We can all sleep safely tonight knowing that Mr Dyson has been banged to rights.

With what you say about the sensors being sealed units that reminds me of an edition of wheeler dealers. The Maserati one where the throttle actuator, I think it was, is a sealed unit but someone found a way in basically by cutting carefully and drilling out the filling. Since you've got at least one knackered sensor why not try getting into it. After all what have you got to lose. Just a suggestion.

Seconded. If you want a diesel and a 2.0 litre then it has to be bmw derived. My personal experience is with a MG ZT diesel I had some years ago. BMW engined but detuned by BM but improved by Rover c/o a superior turbo. My car was rated 135bhp. After a plug-in dedicated black box (ronbox) and an egr bypass my car ran 165bhp. And boy did it show. 30 more ponies made a big difference and yes some superb plumes of black smoke when booted hard. Oh how I laughed when this happened but I was going faster than anything close lol. Get rid of your diesel pal. Get the is250. It's a far far superior car.

VSC warning ⚠️ light.
Mr Vlad replied to BobIS250's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Yes petrol cap can cause this but to test the cap it's best to run the tank to low. When removing the cap you should hear a rush of air. If not then a new cap is needed. Sods law. My car came up VSC and engine management light on yesterday. No detrimental effect on how the car ran. Revved oh so freely to red line in the 1st 4 gears. Read somewhere it could be dirty MAF sensor. So today I disconnected the battery both posts. Cleaned the MAF. 35 minutes later car starts and idles at 1300 revs but after a few minutes settles to 700rpm. Oh no more VSC light. I was going to get my car diagnosed but £65 + the dreaded? No chance. Not worth buying a cheap diagnostic reader as they don't tell the whole story. Battery disconnect for half hour. Check filler cap Clean MAF. The 1st things to try before diagnostics. Oh a 4th thing to check is the drop link sensor at the rear axle (its name escapes me). They can seize and break and cause VSC. Mine got knocked which threw up VSC but after straightening no more VSC. -
Blimey Wayne. Comparing chalk and cheese is well I'm lost for words. Audi TT diesel or an is250? No brainer. The is250 every time. Audi's of the past couple of decades have been dire in my opinion. Loads of engine problems particularly the V8's. I've had the best ever Audi and that's the UR Quattro and by the way the only Audi worthy of the name Quattro. WOW WTF that Lexus estate Lucas looks awesome. What the hell is it? I absolutely love that car.

To be honest up until seeing your SC Glynn I've thought it was an awful looking car. Your simple mods have transformed its looks and your car looks bang on. Lexus should have built the car just how you have it. Well done 👍

That sketch just made my day. Nice one dutchie 👍 Can't think of owt to say about the price of fuel today.
