  1. Quite right Colin. I didn't think of home charging. However I did mention home and supermarket charging being cheaper. Again However I wonder what percentage of EV owners have a home charger. I'm betting its less than 50%. It makes perfect sense for me to have an EV. But for one I don't have a home charger. 2 it would cost a good couple of grand to get one installed close to where my car is parked (on a drive at bottom of a small 25 cubic metre garden other side of a fence). 3 I'm picky about cars and there's only a few I'd consider and they're expensive. Probably around 400 quid a month. So basically and for me personally it's Way cheaper to drive my is250. I'd even go as far to say it'd be also cheaper to own an ISF overall and over a 5 year period. People have gone to EV for various reasons and that's their choice. I'm not knocking them. Unfortunately those with EV cars have fallen for the greater con. I've been saying that for years.
  2. Well said Mike. And to put a cat amongst the pigeons. A question. What kind of gearbox does a formula 1 have? Clue: it's not a manual. Thise who say a car drives better with a manual gearbox and that you have more control are unfortunately misguided. The best thing about a manual gearbox is that they're a doddle to service. Auto gearbox is a ruddy nightmare by comparison.
  3. Bernard. I very rarely read anything as its not been my bag for decades. The Info I posted about it being cheaper to run a diesel to an EV came from a trusted poster on YouTube. Modern Heroes. He's totally For EV cars and has had them a while. Please do look him up. He posts regularly and he's not paid to say things like other magazines and YouTube posters that have celebrity's on. Of course it's way cheaper to charge at home or a supermarket but isn't the point now about cost of speed to charge!
  4. I've liked the look of the MG5 ever since it came out. More so now the MG4 which looks outstanding. And to think there's going to be a 450bhp version. Now that may sway me to go electric But with the price it costs to charge an EV going through the roof and its been shown that its cheaper to run a BMW 320d than a tesla model 3. When I learned that my jaw almost hit the floor. Looks like I'll be holding on to my is250 for quite a long time.
  5. Yes Danny that's believable. I once managed to averaged 82mpg in my MG ZT diesel after a similar drive. A great cheat if one is selling a car lol.
  6. I've just watched this. Quite interesting. Some have mentioned about fast charging etc. Watch this then.
  7. I recommend you start using Millers Oils diesel power max additive. It was recommended to me when I first started driving diesels. It works great on diesels. MG ZT diesel I had some years back I bypassed the EGR and ran a dedicated RonBox and the additive and never got less than 50mpg no matter how I drove it. Also I noticed improvement in 2 Ford Mondeos one 2.0 and the flying machine 2.2. It cleans the fuel system and injectors and well worth the money.
  8. Hi Nick. You have sporadic power loss. It could be fuel related. Possibly dirt pick up from the fuel tank. Do you drive your car mostly with a low tank or over half? I can only think of this. Maybe fill up with premium fuel and give your car an Italian tune.
  9. Oh dear that's a #ummer. Genuine shocks are pricey but if you look here in the gen 2 section someone asked about rear shocks and excellent alternatives came up. Look at that. Headlights well there are those who love vland and those that don't. That's a choice only you can make but on ebay there's always used Headlights for sale.
  10. When I got my car 2 years ago I booked it in at Lexus for a service and MOT. I've said this before but I was told they'd not MOT it as they'd fail it because the rear shocks showed signs of leakage. They quoted me about 650 to do including fitting and vat. I eventually got genuine at halfords for 630 Including fitting and a free MOT. For a dealer to charge just over £600 and add fitting and vat then I'd stay well clear from that dealer.
  11. Some years ago I always had one or two extra loud sirens fitted inside my cars. Over 130 decibels. It was proven no one could stand it for more than 1 second. An idea from this is to have one or two loud sirens fitted underneath the car. Once armed and the car lifted by the slightest amount would fire off the car alarm and those loud sirens. It would be far too painful for any cat thieving scum to stand. Just an idea and one I think I posted a couple years back.
  12. Hi James and welcome to Lexus ownership and especially the is250 (great choice) and to the best Lexus forum there is. Great to know you used it to answer all your questions and that you found a very good example. Don't you gave the is350 there? I thought you did and if so why didn't you get one of those? We'd love them over here. Anyway you should know we like to see photos of new members cars, hint hint.
  13. Very impressive. I bet however she drove your car with great care, more than you do.
  14. Thanks Lucas. I just couldn't remember what my car had. So yesxive had experience of some kind of LSD (not the smoking or injecting type or swallowing type lol). What I remember of that cars handling and after having brand new wheels and top range tyres was that yes it stuck like pooh to a blanket and yes I did take that car to its limits (in a huge car park). Whilst I had that Quattro I also gad a 216 rover vitesse which I actually had more fun in. Sounds weird but I just can't explain it. Maybe coz it was more loose and the Quattro wrecking ones arms with the awesome grip. Though I did have it slide a good few times lol. Now could I have driven that car as fast as I did my lexus the other week? Because of my state of mind (yes I was in a bad place) I can't honestly say but in normal circumstances I'd say yes so I sit and accept what you 2 guys have said.
  15. I think a forum moderator can do it but I'd copy and paste your first post in to the main body of the gen 2 part of the forum. You posted in the gen 2 section but in the Maintainance sub section.
  16. Eric. My judgement comes from 35 years of driving over 50 different cars 29 of them being mine. More front wheel drive cars from Metro to 2.7 V6 Rover Vitesse and a few rear wheel drive cars from Morris Marina to Rover SD1 V8 and the best ever car to be built the UR Quattro and over half a million miles experience. So no I don't bade my judgement on a solitary car. Cheers 🍻
  17. Very sorry to learn of your personal issues and of your car. Think if it this way. Sell your car to WBAC and what do you get for 1500 quid? A pile of %*#@. As for exhaust look on ebay. Don't bother welding as the exhaust is old like your car. Replace with new or used part. As for rear shockers. £140 I think gets you tieks brand. Perusal of the gen 2 IS section on here will answer questions on exhaust and shock absorbers. You've got a superb car and yes it's old now but there's nothing out there anywhere as good. Get your car back on the road and drive it and enjoy it and I'm dure it'll get you back in a good place in your life. All the best Julian.
  18. Just goes to show the person from Grom hadn't a clue. Sorry to say you didn't do your homework 2 years ago. If I'd have known this then I'd have told you to use the Y adapter cable so the original port is used and is piggybacked so a Bluetooth unit can be used. I found out about how to introduce Bluetooth when I was looking for a RX400h but I got the 450h instead. Glad it's all running well and meets your requirements.
  19. And there in are my points. I have no qualms about modifying. A good proportion of folk do and good for them. I don't. As for going faster round corners with or without LSD is neither here or there. You two may be able to answer this. The UR Quattro. Does that car have a LSD or not as I can't remember. I had one for near 7 years. Stolen recovered twice. Looked after meticulously. After itcwas stolen first time I parked it up whist repairs were done. I got a Rover 216 vitesse which was one helluva good car. I can honestly say I had more fun driving that front wheel car than the super grippy 4 wheel monster. That was in the 80's were we had much less traffic on the roads and the roads were a bit better than now. My example of going round the roundabout in the pouring rain at stupid speeds. I doubt very much a car could have gone quicker. My frame of mind at that point was really I don't give a damn. I stopped because I was getting quite uncomfortable as the seats are not huggy type and I'm not as young and stupid like I was in the 80's lol but I was gobsmacked by my speed. Anyway there's 27 SE-L is250's on auto trader today. Prices seems to be dropping. Looks like a good time to but. A couple of low milers which is surprising.
  20. All this LSD v none LSD malarkey got me thinking. I've got a reputation of me being a mad (expletive). I've never modified a car (except installing hifi). I've driven every car I've had like I stole it and yes even the RX450H I had (and for its size and weight it handles really really good) and I've raced so called 'sports' cars (beemers mercs etc) and either kept up with them or whooped their farses. My current car the superb is250 is just a really really good handling car. I did an experiment this week at a roundabout under the M627. It was peeing down so I thought what the hell and went around it time after time after time going faster each time. I really wanted to lose control of the car but I gave up at just over 70 as I thought that's way to fast in the pouring rain to be going round a roundabout. Now then could I have gone faster in a car with a LSD? I doubt it. Could I have gone faster in a M3? I doubt it. Could I have gone faster in a Caterham? I'm not sure. The is250 is a ruddy good handling car and I can't see reason to modify the suspension or brakes. That's my personal opinion and probably that of quite a few. It's good to banter however and there are those who have and do and will modify their cars as its their choice and they have their reasons. Good on them. But please don't come back saying my modified car handles better than standard. For 'normal ' owners it doesn't. It'd probably ride harder to normal owners. The is250 is not a sports car. Its a sublime cruiser. However if the need arose it can get out of trouble quite safely. Enjoy your cars my fellow owners 😉
  21. You're missing the bottom lip. I didn't realise when I bought mine and looked at others that's why I bought from Lexus Parts Direct. No faffing about but knowing it'd fit properly without any tweeking etc.
  22. Hi Tim. Not got round to it as I've had to spend on other things like a new alternator battery and extras when I took it for its yearly service and MOT.
  23. Yes clips with screws not self tappers. I couldn't think of the clips, think senility is setting in lol.
