Hi Connor. Can you be a bit clearer as to what you had changed. Google translates it to valve assembly but I'm sure that's not what you had changed.
-
Yes I'm fully aware about the 'wet' cam belt and how it's failed a lot. That's down to poor maintenance basically. Something I forgot to mention. The first phone call after my stupid prang was to Lexus Assist. OMG what a Total waste of time. I got the impression they weren't interested and fobbed me off with Lantern Recovery to which I would have to pay. And oh dear I've just spent some time getting quotes for various cars. All quotes gone up a couple hundred quid 😖 Weird thing too. Same car basically but 6 months age difference between 2 of them and nearly £200 difference in insurance quote! I'm rather flummoxed by that. Thanks again for your nice thoughts etc.

I know where you're coming from Lucas regarding getting another is250 but the only ones 'worth' looking at are too far away. Plus I'm shying away from getting an 'older' car. As for the focus. I've had a couple of the mk3's albeit diesels but they never let me down. No mechanical or electrical issues. They just went on and on. Yes I'm looking at the 1.0 litre ecoboost and yes I'm fully aware of issues concerning that little fantastic engine but I know what causes the issues and how to overcome them. Plus they're a 3 pot and sound like a likkul V6 lol. Am loving the sound of the Fiat 500 I'm using until I get paid out Plus the fuel economy is ruddy amazing.

Thanks everyone. Right. Yes I'll be looking for a cheapish runaround. Probably back to a Ford Focus mk3 1.0 litre. As for what they'll offer. It'll be market value before the incident. I have told them its got full dealer service history and that I was second owner. Looking in auto trader average price is about 6k As a replacement lexus, when I get one, top of the list is the UX250 (I really like that car). Oh. As for the airbags not deploying. Would they have hampered me exiting the car. I doubt it. Thinking about my Stupid incident I was very lucky that 1 I was uninjured. 2 that no other vehicle involved. Luckily the other drivers noticed the pillock up ahead losing control and they slowed down accordingly. Oh and I will pop onto the forum but instead of a few times a day I'll make it every other day or so. After all this is a fabulous forum.

Well I lost control of my beloved is250 on Saturday just gone in very very wet windy rainy weather on the M62 on the way to Leeds. It was the front that let go. I was in the outside lane then all of a sudden the front let go. I tried to correct it but I slid 180 degrees and was going backwards on the hard shoulder half on grass verge and half on the road surface then straight across the carriageway and squarely hit the Z posts which hold up the wires you see. That impact bounced me back across the carriageway where I rolled to a stop on the hard shoulder. Well and truly peed off with myself because I can say I was going too fast for the conditions. Luckily no other vehicle involved. Damage to my car both rear wings bashed and creased. Bumper totalled. Boot floor really distorted. Been told by my insurance underwriters that's its a total loss. As it happens a good few minutes later a few hundred yards behind me a 2 car incident. Behind that I was told of a 5 car incident. The motorway was shut for a while. So I'm an unhappy bunny and without my car. But something bugs me. No airbags went off. None. Now I know the previous owner had a front end collision and I'm assuming that airbags went off then but not reinstated. Very naughty me thinks. So copart are going to pick up my car from Bradford and strip it for parts. Not sure what offer I'm going to get from my Insurers but it should be around what I paid for it a few years back. Not sure I'd get another one though. I'm waiting for an offer from a claim I've made from my fall last December of which they accepted liability and I'm expecting a decent amount so a relatively new lexus I'll get. So until then I'll be quiet on the forum. Take care out there in these awful wet times. It can catch Anyone out.

Have you noticed that your fuel usage has increased? Another way of putting it is has the cars MPG got worse recently? What kind of mileage do you do in a week? Have there been any lights come on in the dash display?

E10 petrol degradation over time.
Mr Vlad replied to Pat_D's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
LOL Pat. I most definitely do Not need counselling for suggesting you need an EV for the distances you travel. I'm a petrol head and Proud of it. I'm also a realist and know that EV's have their place Today. The fact is an EV is the vehicle I should be driving for the distances I do. I would too if I could afford it so I'll stick with my V6 and continue putting my 2 penneth in within the fabulous forum 😁 -
Hi Tadas. How did you spray the stuff into the inlet? Through the throttle body or into that vacuum pipe battery side of the inlet manifold? Either of those methods are the only ones to 'work' but manually clean the valves and inlets is the best. I look forward to seeing your photos of your cars inlet when you take it off. Don't forget to take lots of photos.

E10 petrol degradation over time.

Pat. Use your car much more often. Try to 'burn' half a tank of fuel. Go for a 200 odd mile drive. You bought a hybrid for economy reasons. Sorry but the mileage you do you should have bought an electric car. You most certainly are not doing that car of yours any favours. -
BMW puts its eggs in the Hydrogen basket!
Mr Vlad replied to Mincey's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
Re LPG VFR. A best friend of mine has his RX300 converted. He has been struggling to find a supplier of LPG since his local garage stopped selling it. He's found out that suppliers are getting thin on the ground and the price was going up quite rapidly. -
BMW puts its eggs in the Hydrogen basket!
Mr Vlad replied to Mincey's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
OMG even a hermit knows that production of hydrogen uses a helluva lot of electricity. So why waste time finding an article stating so. That's basically dirty hydrogen production using shed loads of electricity. Green hydrogen production is coming to the fore at a steady pace. I started the thread What's Wrong With electric cars. Then it was apt. It's still apt. Let's hope this thread doesn't go down the same ending. -
BMW puts its eggs in the Hydrogen basket!
Mr Vlad replied to Mincey's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
Some very interesting links to interesting articles. Sorry Shahpor but BMW are Not hedging their bets on hydrogen. The author of that article admitted that was a wrong statement. I applaud BMW for their efforts in alternative energy for motor cars. How that top guy, Gunther was it?, said the hydrogen powered car would suit the car owner who doesn't have a drive or a parking space. Its excellent to finally see a major car manufacturer think about a car owner and their situations of parking etc. I applaud you James for posting that link. It hopefully will open doors for other major car manufacturers to follow suit. As for what VW stated. Very clever misleading yet again. For them to get a patent on a storage device in the hydrogen system for cars to me means they're really looking in to hydrogen for cars. -
Thanks for the clarification Bill. I was only assuming from a comment/post earlier.

Blimey public transport down south must be utter crap. I'll take a train into Manchester. I was surprised how nice the train was. Light airey and with power points. Yes on the way back party goers being rowdy but so what. I'll not take a bus. Trams are quite good. This Wednesday I got a surprise. I saw my 1st 100% EV class 2 truck. It looked nice. I looked for its battery and assumed it was underneath where the fuel tanks would be. Unfortunately I didn't see the driver to ask about it. I know that a good few years back hotpoint had EV 7.5t trucks just for London. What with JCB pioneering hydrogen for power and DAF doing EV trucks. Makes one wonder. Me? I've said it before. BEV makes perfect sense for my use. However the expense kyboshes that. So I'll stick with my trusty V6 for as long as I'm able to drive. As for the dire Infrastructure for BEV chargers here in the UK and how it desperately needs updating. Yes it's us who will be paying for it and not companies or governments or investment companies. We're just suckers unfortunately. Oh Linas. Going lead free years back. It cost my Dad 300 quid to get the head sorted to accept lead free petrol. It probably cost 10's of thousands of others that too to convert their cars. So sorry that you got that bit where it didn't cost anything totally wrong.

Hi. My boot may as well have no dampers fitted, the boot slams with a vengeance unless you control it's decent until the final few inches, then drop it. I have had a dig around and I can't see any part numbers on either of the struts. There is a warning label with some unhelpful English but the rest Japanese. Ebay have plenty, but all from cars of a similar age to mine (2008) which may or may not work. I found http://www.sgs-engineering.com/car-boot-tailgate/lexus/is The problem is they only have an IS300 as the model, not an IS250. The picture looks the same but I don't know if they are identical or not. Does anyone know either the part number for an IS250 boot strut or know if the IS300 simply has a larger engine in the same body type? https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/110883-2008-is250-boot-strut-part-number/?do=findComment&comment=986048

A booster seat needs a flat surface to sit on. The middle seat in your car is basically a hump. Dependant on your child's age and height you could get away from using a booster seat. I'm assuming there would be two other rear seat occupants. If so they would act as side protection. I suggest you sit the child on the centre rear seat and see how the seat belt fits. If it sits on the child's neck then no way sit the child there. Booster seats are polystyrene so you could actually sculpture the base so it fits the hump of the middle of the rear seat. I've done that in the past and I'm a doting great grandad.

Fitting a dash-cam to a 2008 IS250 SE-L
Mr Vlad replied to HighlandJohn's topic in Modifications & Tuning
No need to pull any A pillar trim off. Simply remove the rubber door aperture at the A pillar. Run the cable in the gap you'll see. That's what I did with my dash cam in my is250. Look on YouTube and you'll see for yourself how easy it is. -
Quite possible D. An easy mistake to make or an incompetent one.

My last post was not harsh. As I've said many many times I'm a professional driver with just over 2 million miles under my belt. I KNOW what I'm talking about. I've been praised many times by traffic police for my skillful driving. If you (generalising) don't like my comments then in my view you are not drivers but steerers. Its that ruddy simple.
-
Sad John? Really?????? Either you're taking the wee wee or you really do rely on aids to steer your car. Note I didn't use the term drive as I believe you are not a driver. Sorry.

Gang. Re the number of hydrogen filling stations. As for cars I personally reckon there's less than 10 in the UK. As for commercial then that's a different kettle of fish. I reckon there's 00's if not a few thousand. Yes too much fact is fiction and fiction is fact. That's why innocent folk get confused or naffed off. Oh sorry if you don't understand kettle of fish or naffed. Read story and expletive word. 😁

Oh dear. What started out as an interesting thread has gone downhill and I can see it getting blocked. I'm personally getting peed off with 'evangelists' who basically preach their self obsessed opinions which they believe is gospel truth. Unfortunately there are a few within this thread who do that.

Blimey. If someone has to rely on a mobile phone app to warn them of a pothole or sunken drain then they really Must surrender their licence.
