  1. Don't think there was a facelift at 2007/8. I say probably 2 different systems one being much dearer than the other. That age car is a mk2. Mk3 were released 2011/12 I think.
  2. To check caliper sliders the easiest way is to inspect the brake pads. Both pads should be almost the same thickness. If one is for example 60% warn and the other is 90% warn then there is a problem of sticking caliper. Rust under the car of this age is rife. Suspension springs could be snapped but easy to check. Don't use Lexus Leeds. Travel to Bradford or better still Stockport.
  3. Yeah I know what you mean about the drive of the RX.I miss mine and as soon as finances allow I'll be getting another one. The SW815 is a pocket rocket. For loud sub take the insert out at the bottom. This turns it into a ported box. If you want a tighter sub then leave the insert in. Leaving it in also helps it produce under 25hz. The mondeo boot is similar size to the RX and the sub will fill the car and let you know where the rattles are in your car. That's why I used a good few rolls of dynamat. I too woulduse my bike to commute if I had one but I've had my halcyon days in the 80's. Last bike was the superb FJ1200. I miss that and the yam 2 strokes I had hee hee hee.
  4. Nice one lol. Yeah I have T and F on Spotify best quality download and yes on a wonderful sounding pipe organ. In my previous mondeo I fitted dynamat to every panel I could get to. Infinity reference speakers in the front rears standard powered by a Rockford Fosgate 2x 150w amp (actual 172w per channel according to its birth certificate) with the SW815 in the boot. T and F sounded superb and yes oh so loud (wife hates it so loud lol). Radio 1's DnB show is well produced. I know my hearing isn't anywhere as good as it used to be so that's why I go for power. My music is predominantly metal but in recent years I've mellowed to accept softer type music. I seem to really enjoy 80's music which is weird as I hated it then lol. I think maybe your next step is to get a power amp to drive the door speakers as that'll be better than what's in the car now and it'll bring the speakers to life.
  5. Well I can believe your new speakers sound tons better considering the age of the old ones. Blimey that looked a long arduous job to fit the sub. To test the sub tho your choice of war of the world's I wouldn't consider a test. Any of the drum and bass shows from Radio 1 or Bach's Toccata and Fugue album. Within the first 45 seconds T and F shows a good sub or not.
  6. Oh I miss my biking days. As for cancelling the sub fitment I'll bet you'll re book within a week or two. That Alpine speaker, to me, is a cheap piece of tat. Plus I'm not a lover of coax speakers. I'll be intrigued by your review.
  7. Bare in mind what the law states with regard putting things on the inside of a windscreen. Bottom right hand corner is approved. As for your RX satnav. Use your Garmin as it's light years ahead in tech than the inbuilt one. Another location for a 3rd party satnav is to use the rubber suction pad on the cars navigation screen.
  8. Wow you had Quad ESL's? Damn good pieces of kit and with Quad 11's. I've not seen those in decades. I have Quad 44 and 405 2's driving Kef Reference 101's with a custom made sub from the original Wilmslow Audio. Mind you they're all going be sold soon as I don't listen to music indoors like I used to. Ha ha you've got the Alpine sub I was going to strongly recommend. I have one of those. Had it in my previous model and boy did it make some serious bass and for such a small unit. Unbelievable. I love that sub. Worth 3 times the price.
  9. Hi Jack. I'm assuming your car is a Japanese import? I'm sure you'll be most welcome in the GS section of the forum. When you get it take lots of photos and introduce yourself in the GS section and post many photos as your allowed. I'll assume it's a Toyota branded car. You'll have to tell us all about it.
  10. That's good news. Seems to be a good bloke. Out of interest what sub is he going to install? I do have a concern tho that if the door speakers can't reproduce lows down to say 300hz then you'll have a sonic hole in the system unless the sun will reproduce up to 500hz or so.
  11. What I was on about was a Line Out Convertor. Size of a box of matches. Using one of these means no need to change head unit and possibly spoil functionality. Yes looks like the tweeters are top of dash but they could be swapped easily.
  12. Firstly remove the speaker and inspect it. It probably will be a paper cone type. There should be speaker adapter plates available. Try Connects2. I can't remember there being 3ohm speakers available in late 90's early 2000's. 2ohm and 4ohm yes as I used them. Test your speakers with another source. Maybe your amp is playing up. If speakers duff then look up a replacement. To add an amp and sub there's no need to get a different head unit. Use a high to low pass adapter (forget what it's called) but you splice into the wires behind the head unit and connect to the convertor. From the convertor there will be 2 phono jack sockets. Run lead to rear of car (or wherever you want your new amp) and connect to amp. Run power cable to amp. From amp run speaker cable back to rear of head unit and connect to the wires left after splicing. From there the signal will go to the speakers. From the amp you could run a sub.
  13. Wow 40-50k miles a year in a RX? Blimey. That's, as stated by rayaans, is 4-5 services a year. A service every 5-6 weeks and a cost of a good few grand. Yup I'd defo go diesel. Yes you've seen maintainance figures But you see cars from a lease company whose drivers probably don't drive them as if they were their own. I have friends with diesels that are now 8-10 years old and over 300k miles. A mix of ford vw and bm. No major problems on any of them. But anyway. You're in a position to get a fabulous car in the RX. Go for it and enjoy.
  14. It's not a matter of having audio units connected it's phones. When I had my RX I had to delete 4 phones registered to the car.
  15. With regards Bluetooth your apple device has a different Bluetooth system in it as do all apple devices. If you had an android device you can register quite a few but only use one at a time. As for using auxiliary in I'd suggest a conflict between the player and car. Check settings in both as the aux in should work with any device. Try a different cable as possibly the one you have is faulty.
  16. As above. 80k miles is nothing for the is300h But don't just buy the first one you see. Would this be your first hybrid car? If so then test drive lots of them. I couldn't get to grips with my 1st one but my 2nd one was truly fabulous. It was the CVT that I didn't like as I came from 25 years of manual gearbox but after a year of an automatic gearbox the CVT was wonderful. Test drive lots and check that the car has a full service history and hybrid health check (which should be done with each yearly service). Once you get one you won't be disappointed. Wish I still had mine.
  17. Blimey I wouldn't use them with the amount of over spray. I bet it costs a whole lot more than doing it yourself it by bit. Waxoyl never solidifies. It stays kinda rubbery.
  18. The wires have snapped off in the wiring harness? Or at the 12 pin plug it's self? Obviously you've taken the radio out so if the wires have snapped at the 12 pin plug then you'll be able to get a plug and re attach the wires one by one. You can also get the small brass pins that go into the plastic plug. Just look on ebay for the plug and brass/copper pin inserts.
  19. Eh up olliesgrandad a former road officer eh? OK I'll give you that even tho there are too many of them that can't drive even tho trained. Well put Lost it. Nowt wrong with Nexen's. I've got a pair on my ahem tuned mondeo and am very happy with them in all conditions.
  20. Ah OK . Thanks m8y. I've seen one of those Alpine units fitted to a GS450h I looked at. I'll put that in my to do list on my near future purchase.
  21. What is it makes the Michelin Cross Climate such a great tyre on the RX olliesgrandad? Are you a former professional racing driver or test driver? I'm not but I am, and have been since I first started driving, a fast driver. I've done track days and rally days. To the average driver the only difference between an expensive tyre and a budget one is the price. Me? For the past 25 years I've only ever bought part warn tyres and have never had any problems or issues with grip. I only buy matching pairs per axle. Looks like the OP has sacked this thread because of the snobbery to tyre brands. Tut tut.
  22. Connoisseur what made you choose the Alpine over the Pure version?
  23. Burroo I suggest you Google your tyre size and see what comes up. It makes no difference what so ever if you have a different matching pair of tyres on the rear. Mixing on the same axle is very bad. Get the best you can afford. At the end of the day what you buy compared to if money was no object you'd very much more than likely not notice any difference in handling. No one except a pro driver would be able to tell the difference.
  24. Me thinks then Herbie that Lexus Stockport were taking the mick. Mind you 570 after the discount you got seems very fair considering what needs to be done and time taken.
  25. £570 for a 60k service Herbie? When I had my 450h I was told is was due a 60k 6yr service at £750.
