  1. Shows how quickly technology moves on from 15 years ago.. and even more for myself. I took O Level Computer Studies (in 1977 to 1979) which included programming using Basic. The school did not have a computer at all and in those two years we only got to see a physical computer 4 times when visiting the local University and College.
  2. How about going back to the rear seat entertainment from my days as a kid .. I Spy and Count the bridges. 😅
  3. After a long weekend holiday in Shropshire this weekend I got to thinking if I need to buy a different car next time as it seems Lexus is becoming very common. 😉😅 First of all I was staying in a log cabin on a farm with around 15 cabins, the one next to me had a black 69 plate NX, a younger little brother to me RX. Then on the drive back I lost count of the number of Lexus (Lexi??) I passed on the motorways, of all types. Maybe I need to buy something rare now, like my dads first two cars a BMW Isetta or Reliant Regal. 🤔😄
  4. Bluetooth has changed a number of times over the years. I used to have Bluetooth connection in my motorcycle helmet to my mobile around 12 years ago but it depended on what phone you had as it only worked with some versions of Bluetooth and not others. I doubt if that system could connect with the phones around now.
  5. Mine had been turned OFF (must be by previous owner) so I have switched mine ON to try it. I would have thought in this case that there is no default and it stays at whatever setting you had it on otherwise mine would have been ON when I went out to look yesteray.
  6. Well found, I have never gone into that menu on the screen, just usually use the buttons for the Climate system. Now you have posted that I have just been out to my car and switched it on.
  7. Have you clicked the option on the bottom left, when the camera is showing the image, for parallel parking rather than leaving it on the one on the right?
  8. It depends on what your budget is. If it is enough or an RX400h or even an RX450h then you will probably find you want to use it more than just the 8 to 10 times a year. The RX450h is the only car I have owned in 40 years that I have gone from one car to another of the same make/ model (updated)
  9. Were all Lexus/ Toyota dealers closed down your way? Up here RMB Autos (Lexus Teesside) was still open through this last one for servicing/ repairs etc and I had bought and had my dashcam system supplied and fitted by them.
  10. If anyone has a dash cam fitted to your cars, please don't forget to inform your insurance company. I have just had my renewal quote for beginning of May and, after informing them of having had the front and back system fitted by the Lexus dealer, have found my insurance being reduced by £27 a year (5.4%),not a lot but better in my pocket than theirs.
  11. I was told by an A/C specialist the first time I had a car that had A/c that it was best to have them re-gassed every 5 year, it might be a sealed unit but the gas still looses efficiency over the 5 years. With the Lexus A/C, as mentioned before, make sure they use the correct oil in the system or you will get expensive problems down the line.
  12. I remember having to have a windscreen changed on a Triumph TR7 that has shattered when hit by a flying stone kicked up by a lorry. At the time most windscreens were fitted using the rubber surround and the old "string around the rubber" method. The TR7 was glued onto the body with a metal wire running around the glue on the edge that they had to connect to a battery to then heat the glue and stick it onto the body.
  13. Toyota/Lexus is improving these all the time. A work colleague is just arranging a test drive of a Yaris hybrid to replace a normal petrol only one. In Toyota info it says the new Yaris can stay in EV mode up to 80mph.
  14. Have you missed the last 0's from there Malc? 🤭
  15. I was just thinking, looking back at all the cars I have owned in just over 40 years of driving (passed test 2 months after 17th birthday) and this is the first time I have changed car and kept the same make and model, going from the 2011 RX450h to this 2017 RX450h. The only other time that has been close was after owning my first 4x4 back in 2004 (Suzuki Grand Vitara XL 7 seater) that i used for towing a caravan, I changed it for a smaller Suzuki GV1600 3 door. When I changed to the 2017 RX back at the end of last August I actually only had one make and model in mind, just shows how much it had impressed me in the three years I had owned the 2011 RX.
  16. What year is this on? I have DAB radio on my 2017 and it does not have this box at all on it, is this an after market one? Is that code on the sticker it is attached by the part number?
  17. After the battery has been disconnected you need to reset the windows (not sure about the rest). From each door itself put the window all the way down and hold for around 3 seconds then put it all the way up and hold for around 3 seconds then the windows should all work again from the drivers controls.
  18. You can turn off the bleeps on the speed warning and just have the speed sign on dashboard that goes red when over the limit it last recognised.
  19. Its something that I have never tried to use myself either on my previous 2011 Rx that I had for 3 years and my current 2017 RX which I have had since last August. I am not sure it would understand a North East accent anyway.
  20. Hope you enjoy yours as much as myself after doing the same move last August from the same dealer. It took a little while to get used to things like the Auto parking brake but love all the auto settings now, the seats linked to the climate control etc.
  21. Why would Costco only fit tyres to the rear of what is primarily a front wheel drive car?
  22. I have those Yokohama's fitted to the front of mine in December, quite happy with the road noise and grip even during the snow and ice we had here Jan/Feb time
  23. Unfortunately with the Gen4 RX450H the only options you have for a towbar is the dealer or Lexuspartsdirect.
  24. It's all fitted now, very neat both front and back and very easy to link to phone after installing the App. The downside was being given a 70 reg CT 200h as a curtesy car, pleased it was just for a day.
  25. Well after thinking about it and getting quite a bit of overtime at work my RX is booked into RMBAutos (Lexus Teesside) to have front and rear dashcams fitted this Friday. I have been given a price of £375 which seems reasonable as Lexuspartsdirect has the dashcams themselves at £278 so around £100 to fit. Wonder what they give me as a curtesy car this time (last year it was a 3 month old IS300h)
