  1. Has anyone just recently had their insurance renewal quote?

I saw, just today, an article in one paper trying to say that people in their 50's, as I am, are seeing the biggest increase of insurance premiums.

Don't know where they got their information from but mine has come down from £512 to £402 (with Bell Insurance).. to start at the beginning of May.

I am 58 so it's because it is hitting a special age or due to any claim out of date now.

I am hoping it will reduce a bit more in a couple of months when I take early retirement and no longer need business use.

Received an email from my local Lexus dealer....

Want to take a closer look at the compact luxury of the Lexus RX F SPORT? Why not book a test drive today and discover the impressive features for yourself.

This must be a new model I was not aware of, I do indeed have the current RX F Sport and it's a great car, but compact is not the immediate adjective that comes to mind.

Is this a new model like the ill fated BMW 3-series compact?

They might be using the same PR ad as in the USA where the RX would be classed as Midsize

Do most of you remove them when the car is parked to reduce the risk of theft, or leave them in place to catch parking damage? (Please don't answer 'yes'.)

Mine is both front and back system and is hardwired into the car so left in all time.

I got a slight discount on my insurance having it fitted and, as others have mentioned, they are not required but would be a big help in the event of an accident... just make sure it was not your fault.

Another mild irritation on my 2018 model is the inability to receive traffic announcements when the radio I’d in DAB mode, even though there is a setting for it.

My previous Land Rovers did but, after much discussion with Lexus they confirmed that it was not possible on my model. Hopefully they have fixed this on later cars

My 2017 interrupts the music played via USB to broadcast the traffic announcements... so does this not do the same when listening to DAB radio?

I will have to have to try it and see.

Hi I've got a 2010 Rx450h which I would like to fit a towbar to. It has air suspension and I would like to know if there is anything I need look out for in regards to wirring  and what towbar would be require. Any help would be  appreciated. Thanks

Have a look at PJ Jones towbar website for the RX450h.

All the ones they show exclude ones with self levelling suspension, which I would guess is those with air suspension.

  6. I changed from O2 to Sky (which still uses O2 network) and reduced my monthly bill from over £21 with O2 to £8 with Sjy for more data.

As for the coverage, I think both O2 and EE have the most coverage BUT th e% goes on the % of population rather than % of countryside.

The other thig to remember is, as they go from 3G to 4G to 5g then the more masts/ transmitters they require as the distance each covers reduces, eg whereas 4G will cover a distance of around 10km in and not severly distrupted by trees etc 5G only covers around 1km and can be distrupted by trees as well as buildings etc.

It will take a lot of time and money to upgrade the majority of the UK to 5G with masts having to be close and everywhere in a similar way that it will take a lot of money and work to get Fibre to Home to more people in the UK (outside cities).

We've just bought a 2016 Lexus RX450h F - Sport from a Lexus Dealership with a 30 Day Return Guarantee and the usual One Year Parts and Labour Warranty.

The Car has done 75000 Miles with a Fully Stamped Lexus Service History.

Went to start the Car yesterday , and when the Engine kicked in (We were stationary on our Drive and out of Gear ) there was a horrible sound and vibration from the Engine that lasted about Five Seconds.

We've only been out in no more than Five times and it's only the once it has done it.

I'm going to email Lexus today, but has anyone got any ideas of cause and if we should just return it ?

    TIA

    Rob

Has it definitely had its full 60,000 mile full service with the change of spark plugs?

I am asking as I bought my previous RX from a non dealer with 71,000 on the clock then found the previous owner has skipped this one having a small service done at 55,000 miles then another one done at 67,000 missing the important 60,000 one.

It had been serviced at Carlisle Lexus so I found out after ensuing through them .. the previous owner must have skipped it after being told the cost.

I had this 2017 ones 60,000 mile full service done early last May at 56,000 mile...so this May will just get a small one done around 62,000 miles.

  8. After looking at a few different options I am now considering to stay with the RX but get a RX450hL and hopefully the 110mm longer will make that difference.

I am actually going to take early retirement (58) around May/June time so it will be my retirement present to myself.

My current and previous ones have been black but I love the dark blue colour they do so if I go that way will order it that colour.

  9. Well .. I had a test drive of a Toyota Highlander today as well as having a look at the RX450hL.

The RX450hL is only around 7cm longer than the standard so not worth changing.

The Highlander is big enough but driving it had made me realise how spoilt I have been with the Lexus RX450h.

The Highlander felt flat when accelerating (248 bhp). I really love the way the seat moves back and steering wheel moves up on the Lexus and the heat/cooling of the seats can be linked to the auto Climate Control.. none of this on the Toyota.

Also had a look at a Kia Sorento but that's only 226bhp so will probably notice that even more.

Any ideas at what to look at?

Must be longer than the RX450h to get my camping gear in.

Must be in the top 10 of reliability.. preferably in the top 5.

Preferably a similar or higher power than the RX450h.

Must be a 4x4 or SUV body due to ease of getting in and out of it.

    Max price of around £55,000

Not any Plug in ones, as no where to plug it in at home.

Has the navigation experience improved after the update?

I’ve got an impression that the RX Mk3 navi system is so old, that the map update may not be worthwhile.

It always got me to where I wanted to go and was quick to reroute you if you took a wrong turn.

A lot better than the Tom-tom that I used in the car I had before the Lexus which decided it no longer knew where it was and only now and again picked up the GPS signal.

The screen in the Lexus was a lot better than the TomTom at 10 inch ... now 12.3 in this 2017 RX I have now.

We have had the car since March, but only in the past couple of weeks have I had reason to drive in the dark.  Light stalk is set to auto but only switches to full beam intermittently when driving in conditions that would ordinarily cause the headlights to go to full beam. Sometimes it works, but more often it doesn’t.

I have had to resort to holding the stalk towards me in flash mode and steering one-handed when driving on dark country roads at night, as I cannot rely on the lights to go full beam.

My previous cars were Hondas and I never experienced a problem like this. Any suggestions please?

    Many thanks,

    Tim

If you look to right of the steering column there is a button just to the left of the tailgate release that switches the Auto Full Beam on and off.

If in the on position you can't manually put full beam on and off but if you switch this off then it reverts to manual control of full beam.

  12. Up around here Sainsbury's garage was closed on the first Saturday but the 3 local garages to myself had no queues at all (couple of cars at the pumps filling up) on the Saturday, Sunday and all through last week and this week.

Sainsbury's garage was open Saturday gone so must have received their fuel. ( I never buy supermarket fuel myself anyway)

I filled up at just under 1/4 tank left that first Saturday and will need to fill up again this weekend as still only doing half the mileage that used to as working 3 days a week at home and 2 in the office.
