I had the maps (5 Discs) updated on my 2013 Rx450 in early June with latest version 10/2020 cost £205.

Where exactly do the discs go? I know that the rx400h had a CD disc in the boot for sat nav, but I thought that the rx450h had moved away from CDs.

Mine is a 2012 facelift rx450h and I "THINK" it has no CD for sat nav, and believe that the maps are updated with a usb stick.

The online manual seems to be saying that I can update the map myself

    1) purchase the map on the Lexus website

    2) download the map to my pc, then copy it to a usb stick.

    3) plug the usb stick into the car and copy it onto the car.

Trouble is, I'm getting stuck at step 1.  Lexus Cheltenham told me that they MUST SEE THE CAR in order to work out how it updates. This seems crazy: they must be able to check my vehicle details remotely to see what equipment it is fitted with! Then they will quote me for supply and install of map updates.

  2. I have now found this on ebay:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FRONT-L-R-TOP-STRUT-MOUNT-FOR-LEXUS-RX-450H-08-15-TOYOTA-CAMRY-Saloon-V5-/393937902665?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m2548.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

The description says it is for Air Suspension.

Has anybody ordered one of these?

It looks like the bearing is supplied separately to the carrier, for some reason.  I wonder if it is difficult to fit the bearing into the carrier? Could it be done without a press?

  3. Does anybody have any of the following for sale for a 2012 rx450h:

    1) roof rails

    2) cross bars and foot pack for flush roof (any brand).

    3) thule foot pack 480 and fitting kit 1298. I already have some thule bars, and just need these accessories to use them.

If you have any of these available,  pls let me know.

Wish you luck in finding, so many have come here looking for these.  If successful in your quest, try to obtain the longer bolts that come with the new ones. If good gaskets not provided use good measure of silicon as this is a known entry for water ingress.

I had a look at the car last weekend to inspect the mounting holes. There is aready a rubber washer on both the hole and the bolt as protection from water ingress.   Do the Lexus bars come with an additional gasket/seal too?

  5. I am looking for roof rails for my 2012 rx450h.   If you have one or a pair available, please let me know.  I am looking out for cars being scrapped as a potential source, hence possibly interested in just one (in case I find one good one on a scrap car).

    I had a 2011 RX450H and updated the maps from the 2011 to 2017.

It cost around £160 and is done at the dealers. It comes on a USB stick and takes around 2 hours to install.

I think the maps are updated every two years do possibly a 2021 version for yours now.

How did you know the release year of your old maps?  Is there a screen that displays the map data date?  I've recently bought a 2012 rx450h and I don't know if the maps have ever been updated since the car was new.

Probably changed his mind given that the RX450h is amongst the top ten stolen cars in the UK with the last one reported on here today!

    As it happens, I now own a 2012 RX450H.

Isn't it true that it is only the post 2015 RX models that are susceptible to theft and the 2009 to 2015 models are more secure?

You have probably looked at the cost at Lexus (£1200ish), but if you look around, there are independants which are much cheaper. I had mine done by P F Jones last year for £640 fitted, including 13 pin dedicated electrics. They have mobile fitters across the UK. The detachable towbar is a Westfalia - Westfalia supply Lexus this bracket for the RX450 with a Lexus name on it, and yes the bumper does have to be cut.

Strangely, Lexus have only one part code for a tow bar for 2009 to 2015 Rx450h, and they told me that it fits both cars with springs and those with air suspension.  Yet Westfalia have two different models: one for air suspension and one for springs.  I've been told that the difference lies in the removable tow ball, not with the framework that bolts to the car.

    Evening guys,

Installing towbar to my 2010 RX450h, all going well considering paper manual not very user friendly.

    Could somebody help with wirring?

Can't figure out which wire should be connected to green/black for reverse lights??

    Using Westfalia dedicated wirring kit.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

With this dedicated wiring kit from Westfalia, how do you know that the trailer indicators are flashing? Does the car make a beeping sound, or display a light on the dash?  Or is there a beeping sound emitted by the wiring kit?

Hate to bring back an old thread but i can get a set of 400h rails pretty cheap, what i am wondering if the roof fitting is the same as the 450H , IF so the bars are the short piece which i can get here

For Lexus RX270 / RX350 / RX450h 2009 2016 Roof Rack Rails Bar Luggage Carrier Bars top Cross Racks Rail Boxes Aluminum alloy|Roof Racks & Boxes| - AliExpress

    any advice would be great.

I am looking for some Roof rails for my 2012 rx450h.  Has anybody bought these ones from aliexpress?  The price looks very good.

I'm confused by the talk of water ingress? On another thread,  somebody else wrote that the roof rails fix to the outside of the roof with no need to drill holes, and there's no need to remove the interior headlining to fit them.  So, how can water get in?

    Hi

I've just had one fitted to my 450 and I was advised to get the dedicated kit and when it was fitted I can see why. Yes it cost a bit more but in all it was far easier to fit. the only wire to cut was the one to both rear fog lights as the bypass electronics cuts out the car fog lights when the trailer is fitted. I had the 13 pin unit and the lighting all went through one connector which had a jumper connector to fit between the plug and socket in the car loom. In my opinion the 13 pin connectors a far superior to the old 12N and 12S plugs. I have a paper copy of the instructions for the fitting of the bypass unit which is an all-in-one box which does the lighting bypass, split charging and sound for indicators. Worth the investment I think.

I now have a facelifted 2012 rx450h for which I am looking for a tow bar and electrics module.  With the canbus plug in electrics module, I'm surprised it is necessary to cut in to the fog light cables. I wonder why the towing module does not send a msg through the ecu to the fog light module to tell it to switch off the rear fog lights?

I was wondering if my car would have a built in dashboard light to show the trailer indicators are active instead of relying on a buzzer in the towing module?

The top mount is actually a removable part. No need to send the whole strut around. Just unscrew the top nut on the strut axle (manual always suggest to do it with special tools, but it is always done with just an impact wrench with a deep socket), and knock the mount at sides if the bearing stuck on the shock axle.

I am still confused by the fact that neither Toyota nor aftermarket suppliers sell the mount separately.

Does the whole strut with the air bag have to be removed from the car to remove the top mount bearing? Or can the top mount bearing be removed just by lowering the strut?

  13. I've just seen this item on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Lexus-RX450h-LH-Passenger-side-front-air-suspension-strut-/166011966472?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0.

@Barry14UK is the slipped boot you referred to the big gaitor in these photos?  Is that gaitor in the photos the actual air bag, or is it just a cover to protect important components behind it?
