So after a trip around Europe, through France, Germany, Austria, Italy and Slovenia, its time for the LS400 to go 😞 The car has already been returned to standard but just been to busy to post everything consistently on here. I've gone for a Toyota Chaser, Import due to arrive end of August / beginning of September! Just want to say thanks to all who have inputted, read or enjoyed this thread, and I'd like to upload some pictures of my Wörthersee trip! Thank you

Thanks so much for posting that! I had a quick look on that video but didnt see myself at first glance. Theres been a few extra things added since I last posted here and this thread is well overdue an update. I'm due to drive it to Wörthersee in Austria next week, I'll definitely have updated it by then I hope! EDIT: I've just seen the video is part 2 and uploaded earlier today, I only looked at part 1! I had a similar problem once and it was down to those carrier bolts. It was like a slight clunky everytime I pressed the pedal at around those speeds. I personally found it quite difficult to get the torque required on the bolts when it was jacked up, on the 400 I'm sure its about 88NM. If you have a torque wrench and can wait till tomorrow I'm happy to find the correct torque setting for these bolts and its something you can eliminate from the equation Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

You need to specify when it happens, asking generic questions is going to give you generic answers. Does it only knock when you press the brake? Does it do it when you let off the brake? When you push hard/soft? I'm guessing it's only happening when your pressing on the brake at speed (10/15mph+) I would suggest double checking that you have tightened the carrier bolts to the hub, as these do need to be really tight. If that's not the case you'll need to report back after a short test drive and put down the specifics as to when the knocking occurs. Hope this helps Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

Wow nearly 6 months since my last post! Apologies for not keeping this up to date, one thing leads to another and before you know it mods have been done but lots of time has passed! I'm glad to say I've finally gotten air ride on my car and working! It drives incredibly well and very comfortable and I think looks the dogs bits when it's fully aired out! I've also now gotten a proper debadged front grill, interior lace set, oem sunroof deflector (still got 2 spare for sale aswell :o ) I believe I've had the wooden steering wheel since my last post also, aswell as a set of oem jdm floor mats to match. The retrofit headlights are also finally done and on the car! So close to completion and I'm very pleased with the outcome It really has been a busy few months and here's a few pictures to enjoy! Thats fair enough, I just know alot of people go for whatever the car came with on the factory, no matter the cost and even if there are massive upgrades available for the same price. I once heard a story of a customer who insisted on having an oem catalytic converter for his fiat punto at £600 rather than an £80 replacement! Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk -

If the air struts were to fail, would replace like for like or adjustable coilovers? (Might I add there are kits for fully adjustable air ride, that's what I'm currently building. Yep, set of four I got on sale for £670. They were on sale think normal price £749 Most people will refer to adjustable coilovers as simply coilovers. However coilovers are already on most cars (as it's just a coil spring over the strut) they just aren't adjustable. So yes your right in saying the only difference is the adjustability (and that many people refer to them as simply coilovers) You can request whatever spring rates you like and can set them up to the standard ride height if you wish, just ensure that there is enough thread in the bottom of the shock absorber strut (the amount I believe is included in the instructions) The 30 way adjusting is brilliant. I have it set 10 from the softest and to say I'm running my Mk4 low on 19" wheels and runflats, it's much comfier than you'd expect! I can only imagine on the original wheels and stock ride height with the dampness set to very soft you'd retain that original Lexus feel [emoji41] Hope this helps! Bc coilovers come with a 30 way adjustable damp rate and have fully adjustable ride height and spring rates can be set. I have a set on my mk4 and love them Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk -
I've seen aftermarket arms with bushes in but always hear they wear out quickly (ie 2 years instead of the 20 or so oem ones last) For me I'd be happier buying new bushes and have the arms powder coated or painted and push the new bushes in myself, but haven't seen any oem bushes on their own. Was thinking about polybushes but I know they can make the ride quite a bit stiffer at the cost of not needing to change them again for a long time Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

The original air suspension is notorious for failing. I'd suggest bc coilovers, they're good enough. If you want air ride they do bag sleeves for bc coilovers (this is what I'm doing next) Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

They look like cheaper than cheap plastic ones. Why not pay the extra hundred or so quid and get bc ones. Got them on my 400 and wouldn't suggest anything else Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

To be fair the rear has been cambered to the max on its stock setup and I had to grind a smidge of the arch back as one side was running and one wasn't. The rear quarter liner that sits along the outside is still screwed in though so you wouldn't know without an expert eye :) the front now does fit under the wings it didn't before but I don't plan on having to do a wire tuck as j don't want to go any lower than this whilst static. I'd rather not disclose what I paid for these ones but I will say the only ones I've seen new are over 500 on eBay without postage! I did buy a second set of lights myself to make my own with but ended up getting these instead so I now have an extra box of shed ornaments [emoji23] Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

Long time since an update but rest assured the car is still alive and Well!! Not a great deal has happened over the past few months, however I have ordered some parts which arrived and some are still on the way. I gained some led rear lights from Japan and a fellow LS400 owner sold me his old wheels. The spacers that came with it were too big originally however I have now got better sized spacers and got the ride height to just about where I'd like it, enjoy the pics :) Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

I have only put this on for this first time in 8 months as was planning on towing another car but didn't need to in the end. I'll be keeping the part it sticks into on the car though, out of all my friends mine's probably the ideal car to be doing the towing so will no doubt need it at some point lol Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
