  1. https://youtu.be/i_81hQ1irdY Quite positive, barring the inevitable journalist whinge about a CVT gearbox...
  2. @Big Rat The wheels are a standard flat black finish. If you look at the top spoke I've wiped away the dirt! Not satin or matt, they've the same finish as other Sport models from the recent Lexus range. I've got a new set in the same finish for my Winter tyres.
  3. Quite correct @rayaans Having looked it up on the Lexus website it is indeed Graphite Black, and very beautiful it is too. The Autotrader ad for the exact car I'm driving has it correct, even if the description says it's an F-Sport (which it isn't). The dealer keyring just says 'Pearl Black RX' which I guess is a fair description...ish!
  4. @Big Rat I don't normally like black cars, but this RX - wow! @rayaans On a side note, last time I had an RX loaner it was an F-Sport and I was underwhelmed. This Sport version though rides better, seems much quieter and generally is much more refined and comfortable than my memory of the F-Sport. Suddenly I understand the love for the RX, although I still find it too big for my tastes and needs. I'll likely find that the suspension and ride on the Sport and F-Sport are the same (they can't be, surely?) and this is perhaps me getting used to Lexus as a range after years with Honda. Regardless, the RX I have this weekend is a fantastic car.
  5. I've been very impressed with every car in the Lexus range I've had on loan. When I had an IS I couldn't help but wonder why there aren't more on the roads, rather than the ubiquitous and (IMHO) much overrated BMW 3-Series and Audi A4. Perhaps with diesel falling out of favour that'll start to change. On the paint front, my own NX - currently with the dealer having side protection strips fitted - is Mesa Red. I've never owned a car with such a sparkle in the sun which is simply amazing. Mind you, the new RX Sport I've got this weekend in pearl black is also pretty impressive!
  6. I've never really understood the fascination with the ability to download from millions of apps. I've got about 10 - YouTube, Sky Sports, BBC, Spotify and a couple of others I can't remember right now. Given the original post I'd guess that access to another x thousand apps isn't going to be a deal breaker whereas familiarity and ease of use will be. Mind you, I still refuse to use internet banking. I prefer cheques, and still use about three cheque books a year. I don't spend that much time online at all. It was said earlier - cheap and simple is surely the way to go here given the original requirements that were articulated.
  7. As a fellow non-techie I have a full suite of Apple (Mac, iPad and two iPhones). Previously I had a Dell laptop running Windows and a Samsung smartphone running Android. I struggled, thinking it was just me being technically incompetent, but then was advised to try Apple by an expert friend who described their products as like 'Fisher Price' for tech. He says that 90% of people hardly use most of the functionality on their products so really should go for the simplest option that they can use easily. In his experience that's usually Apple. For me he was right without a shadow of a doubt. Yes, they are relatively expensive, but I'm able to do things I never thought I'd be able to do, finding the way it all works and links together intuitive and simple. Android products just leave me baffled in comparison. Just an opinion based on my own experience. I know people who love Android but they seem to be more interested in tech and it doesn't work for me at all. All I want to do is surf the internet, pick up emails and watch a few videos and pictures. As an aside my large multi-national technology specialist employer (glad I'm in a support function!) has just ditched Android devices in favour of Apple, which is nice!
  8. I'd want to see a car in the flesh before putting down a deposit, even a refundable one. I was told the other day that the boot is so small 'it is next to useless' and will put a lot of buyers off. No idea if that is accurate or not, but only seeing a car up close will reveal if it will work for you in the real world or not.
  9. That looks to be an odd place for damage like that. More than a stone could do I'd say...it hasn't come down hard coming off a kerb or something has it? What does the area underneath look like? Any damage there?
  10. I find seeing almost any car reduced to such a fate quite sad...😢
  11. As I understand it, GDPR is intended to stop unintended data transfer which could allow an individual to be identified without their consent. Whilst I understand the reticence of the company to disclose the details of the purchaser, their own records should list what was applied to the car - so the name of the owner at that time surely* becomes irrelevant? Sounds like a cop-out to me...and the treatment applied to my previous NX was transferrable, you just gave the certificate to the new owner as...it related to the car rather than the owner. My name wasn't on it anywhere. Anyway, just get some decent leather cleaner and conditioner and do it yourself. I very much doubt that using the same brand as was used initially will make any difference, but again, I would have thought GardX could at least tell you that if they wanted to sell product! *I was tempted to do a 'stop calling me Shirley' gag, but (almost) stopped myself...😆
  12. ^^My two phones are connected using Bluetooth. I only connected using the wi-fi hotspot to see whether that would enable me to get online - it didn't so I turned it off again. ^^ Sounds like this is the most likely issue. I've e-mailed the Lexus Multimedia team, and await a response. Thanks all for your help. I'll update as and when (and if!) I get a resolution from Lexus.
  13. I only use Apple - no Android - with a Mac, iPad and two iPhones. I'd assumed that as iPhones seem to work for others on this thread that they are already compatible?
  14. My car is brand new. Everything works except the link to Connected...
  15. I'm baffled by this system on my new NX with Premium nav. I've managed to set up both of my I-Phones (a 5SE and a 6) to make and receive calls via Bluetooth. I've also managed to register the navigation system on the MyLexus portal, and set up wi-fi using the hotspot on the phone. I can stream Spotify via Bluetooth, so something is working but it won't let me access the Apps area even though it confirms I'm online. However, I'm unable to log into the Lexus portal from inside the car, the issue being similar to one earlier in this thread, i.e. the MyLexus user ID is my e-mail address and there doesn't seem to be any option to add either a full stop or an '@' symbol. I've looked everywhere on the portal and can't see another username anywhere, so I'm stuck. I tried sending a test route to the car from my iPad and it says it's been received on the portal, but there's nothing in the system in the car as far as I can see. Also, should Google Street View be available on the Premium Nav? The manual says it should, but I can't find any sign of it on the in car menus. Confused...
  16. I've read on a few occasions over the last few years that Hydrogen powered cars are 'the future' for longer journies with electricity to be used for urban requirements. Toyota already has the Mirai, but there doesn't seem to much infrastructure in the U.K. to support it yet. Anybody know if it really will be viable, or whether it will be a long forgotten unsuccessful format at some stage? I'm more than happy to admit that I don't understand science at all (back in the good old days before any National Curriculum I was able to drop all sciences at age 14, so I did!) so if somebody has a simple explanation that would be great. I read about hydrogen and hydrogen fuel cells, but it's all a bit of a mystery to me...
  17. My initial impressions of the facelift Luxury vs pre-facelift Sport NX are; - The Mesa Red paintwork is amazing in the sun, very sparkly...but looks a bit dull otherwise. Overall I like it, although I really liked the Mercury Grey too. - The leather seats smell nicer (!) than the Tahara, but I don't find them quite as comfortable yet. - Ride quality is noticeably improved, far more forgiving especially over larger potholes that caused a shudder in the previous model. The new car is running on the same Yokohama BluEfficiency tyres, so my comparison should be accurate. - Hybrid mode kicks in more and holds for longer. I've got no idea why, or whether the settings are different in the facelift to how they were before, but there you go! - The extra equipment is nice, especially the electric seats and steering wheel. However, I am surprised that there aren't memory settings included at this trim level - believe those appear with the F-Sport and Premier. - Too early to really give an opinion on the Premium Nav vs the previous 'standard' nav, but the graphics look nice and the bigger screen is welcome. I quite like the touchpad when not moving, but so far I'm finding it tricky when on the move. Sign of age perhaps, but I'd still prefer buttons (even though there are still a few). At least it isn't a BMW i- Drive, which I find to be the work of the devil and almost impossible to use. Just me? - I prefer the styling of the front bumper, but not the larger rear lights - purely from an aesthetic perspective. That's it really. 90% the same car, but with a better ride and a few extra bells and whistles, many of which I'll likely never use! And finally a question. In the menus there is an option to go 'online' but no detail behind it. I'm baffled by the online manuals (will ask Lexus for proper paper versions). Anybody know? I've registered the navigation system on MyLexus already.
  18. I chose 10s because in an earlier post you quoted the Lexus 0-60 as 8.9s. I was rounding up. My point about acceleration was that you can be inappropriate within the law, but you have missed the point, and given your answer I consider trying to convince you otherwise to be like a broken pencil - pointless. I would simply ask you to consider what you've written, and hope that if you ever have a serious accident you a) don't try to rely on a defence as you have 'articulated' in court and b) don't hurt anybody else through inappropriate speed, which can include speed within legal limits.
  19. I'm still unconvinced. What does 'too slow' mean? We have speed limits, and having driven the 300h it is more powerful than many vehicles on sale, and more than capable of exceeding those limits, even if we ignore the fact that that the limits are a maximum and that fast acceleration within those limits can be inappropriate. As I've said before, I don't understand the need for speed and rushing around when driving. That is my values, upbringing and background kicking in. I understand that there are those from different backgrounds who feel differently. Personally I don't think that driving fast or aggressively proves much, certainly not in a positive sense. As long as the need for speed is safe, within the law and not adversely impacting on others, then I have few issues with it. But can a car with a 0-60 around 10 seconds be 'too slow'? Not in my opinion.
  20. Probably time to draw a line as we've drifted WAY off topic. And I rather like 'modern' art as it goes (if we're going to use a simplistic populist term). If somebody is willing to value something and pay a price for it, then that is their choice. I'm sure you wouldn't want to fall into the trap of presenting an opinion as a fact with associated implications, so I'll leave others to get the thread back on track if they wish. I'm still sad that the GS will be discontinued...
  21. Something - whether a house, a car, a school, a horse, a kitchen or a sofa - is worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. I'm unsure how we got here on a thread lamenting the demise of the GS, but I'm now re-considering classical philosophy that I haven't really thought about since my school days and long evenings doing prep with a house Master who thought the study of it provided the ultimate answer to everything...fascinating.
  22. Indeed I made some assumptions with my housing comparison. I was considering a modest budget of £900k - £1.2m, so in my mind between £45-60k for a new car. Even so, with such a budget in London you could buy a small flat somewhere desirable such as Marylebone or Maida Vale or a much larger property in a less desirable location like Walthamstow or Tooting. Even in a desirable location, one house or flat can be excellent for one buyer based purely on location and terrible for another based on square footage, finish, features or precise postcode or road. That's why one car buyer is happy with a Fiesta while another feels they need an Aston Martin - even if their journey and practical requirements are similar. You could have the same debate about schools - reputation, family connection and cost - or Universities, or more prosaic things like kitchens! It's all about choice, values, beliefs and budget. I won't try to use 'statistics' - I believe in so much more than a debate based on those as Diogenes did.
  23. Very nice indeed. I've only ever heard good things about the latest Mazda models and have been impressed when I've looked. Not to mention they seem to be chasing market share so 15% discount seems to be the starting point for negotiation on new cars so they represent very good value, especially given the equipment levels. Reading back through this thread, it occurs to me that - as with most things - it's all about opinions, needs vs wants and personal preference, often based on your own values and beliefs. My 'values' are around quality and comfort when it comes to cars, rather than practicality or 'the drive.' Cars aren't so different to houses in that regard. After all, I could buy a 2 bedroom house in London if I wanted to live in the city, but my preference was to live in a bigger house in the country. That's my preference but I have plenty of friends who still feel they 'need' the buzz of living in London. As with @Linas.Pand the power discussion even though I don't - and don't know anybody - in my social circle who drives fast or who would feel they need a car with more power than a 300h (or a Fiesta Ecoboost for that matter!) I guess that doesn't mean that there isn't a small demand for those more powerful products. I don't understand it and never will, but like living in London, I don't really need to understand it to understand that it is there. Presumably Lexus have made a decision that they won't chase that market in the U.K., which leaves those who want such products to go elsewhere. Time will tell if that's the right decision for the brand.
  24. Interesting @dutchie01how opinions can differ. Before I bought my first NX last year, I looked at the Volvo XC60. Having had Hondas for years I was genuinely shocked by the quality - inconsistent paintwork, poor finishing especially under the bonnet, and some of the panel gaps in the interior were shocking. The test drive revealed rattles on a car only a few hundred miles old. I can understand that some of the tech in Volvo /BMW etc is ahead of the Japanese brands, but that doesn't bother me. I just want something simple that works. What I couldn't live with is perceived poor quality. That's why I ended up with a Lexus, and in my opinion it is light years ahead on that score. Hopefully you'll enjoy your new XC40 - it wasn't released when I looked, so it may be a big leap forward for Volvo. A colleague ended up giving his new S90 back to the lease company after it left him stranded for the third time in so many months (electrical issues). Mind you, that particular individual has gone and got a Peugeot SUV hybrid instead...😂
  25. Will do. Most of my thoughts will doubtless be the new Premium Navigation vs the previous 'standard' navigation. Far too early to make any statements yet, although it does feel quite intuitive to me with the touchpad - and I speak as a technology imbecile! Certainly on the journey home I can feel that the ride is softer than before. One thing that I do find surprising...electric seats and steering wheel, but no memory function for the seats. Seems a bit mean...
