I'm starting a new thread for my Winter tyres (Bridgestone Blizzaks) now that they're fitted so I can post on-going observations as - and when - we have some cold weather. Lexus Swindon fitted them today to my spare set of wheels which were previously provided as a goodwill gesture by Lexus UK. So, my NX Luxury went in with standard silver wheels and came out with black wheels from the pre-facelift NX Sport. I quite like the change of look...😀 I also had new valves fitted so that going forward I can just bolt the wheels and tyres on and off as the seasons change. I only do c8k miles a year, so with two sets of wheels and tyres I should be good for 5 years plus. All we now need to do is sort out the TPMS which activated on the drive home - and won't re-set for some reason - and wait for some ice and snow to see how these tyres perform. They are well reviewed online, and available at a good price from Oponeo (£116 per tyre).

Lexus Swindon sent me an email a couple of weeks ago offering the genuine dashcam. Unfortunately I deleted the mail, but they stressed that the mounting was designed to look OEM - and from the pictures it did. Believe it was £249 fitted.

Lexus300h nx
First_Lexus replied to Jimbo300h's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Agree with @rayaans - not a very useful function imho. @Jimbo300hmy NX doesn't always register the right speed sign either. It's right in about 80% of cases, but signs are often dirty or hidden which is when it gets caught out. Hyundai must be very clever because my previous Hondas and various other cars I've driven with similar functionality are equally hit and miss. I believe that the speed disappears completely when the camera hasn't seen a sign of any sort for a distance. -
New Tyres for NX300h F Sport

I've ordered the Blizzaks this afternoon from Oponeo who I've used several times. Once fitted - by Lexus - towards the end of the month I'll post my impressions...assuming we get any cold weather at any stage! -

Thanks @rayaans Yes, the reviews are very positive. Looks like I'll be finding out whether they're as good as the Falken EuroWinters I'd normally buy. I'm actually more excited to see what the NX looks like on the black 'Sport' wheels that the Winter tyres will be running on. Sad I know... -
New Tyres for NX300h F Sport

As I do have some options, I've decided to take the path of least resistance and just get Winter tyres to the exact original spec - 225/60 R18 100H. There are two options in this slightly restricted size. First, Yokohama W-Drive, or BluEarth W-Drive. Second, Bridgestone Blizzak, which are marginally more expensive. I'm happy with the standard fit Yokos on the car now, but am leaning towards the Bridgestone having read some reviews. Anybody here with experience or knowledge to help the final decision for me? -

Pro applied GTechniq ceramic coating with C2v3 applied over the top to finish, albeit not for a few weeks...nothing sticks to my Lexus! -
Do Lexus dealers want to sell cars?
First_Lexus replied to Flytvr's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Last year when I bought my first NX, I used CarWow and had three dealers fighting over the sale. In the end, Lexus Swindon won with a BIG discount and great service. The Lexus dealers I dealt with certainly wanted my business - test drive, good negotiation, and a good price. -
New Tyres for NX300h F Sport
First_Lexus replied to Ankit24's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Interesting. I thought the person I spoke with didn't know what they were talking about, but they've since confirmed on an e-mail that tyres must match the exact original specification when the vehicle was supplied - otherwise they'll treat the car as 'modified' and demand an extra premium! -

I won't be going back to the Falkens as they now only stock the EuroWinter tyres in 104V load/speed rating. My NX is 100H as standard, and while plenty of sources say going UP from 100H to 104V is fine (and why wouldn't it be?) both my insurer (Admiral) and Lexus insist that I must fit EXACTLY the size specified for my car. That means I'm stuck only with Yokohama, Bridgestone or Pirelli. Frustating to say the very least... -
Maybe we finally going to get Dartford crossing free
First_Lexus replied to Linas.P's topic in Lexus General Discussions
Technically we have a representative democracy - i.e. voters elect a representative by constituency - but the fact that two thirds of the current constituencies make a vote against one party or the other almost academic makes this concept flawed. A true PR system would be more representative but comes with its own issues. The fate of the nation in terms of the Government we elect is really decided by fewer than 10% of voters in a few key constituencies. Democracy? On the subject of the Dartford Crossing, I'd argue that the lack of a toll of some kind - i.e. it being fully funded by the taxpayer - would mean that those in other parts of the country who never use it would in fact be subsidising those that do. Is that fair? Possibly, as there are limited alternatives, although I believe it is free after 22.00 and there are resident schemes to reduce the cost for locals, so to some degree it is already subsidised. To use another example, look at the debate around re-nationalising the railways. Ignoring whether you think it is a good idea ethically - and I believe in public ownership of utilities and infrastructure by the way - it isn't as simple as politicians would have you believe. I forget the exact numbers, but something like 5% of the population use the railways more than once a week. Of those, something like 70% live in London or commute into London. Those people (not all of them, obviously) earn - on average - between 15-25% more than the national average wage, largely because many companies factor the cost of travel into salaries (what used to be known as 'London weighting.') Should the majority of the population, who rarely use the railways, subsidise the mainly more affluent commuters in the South-East that do? How does that fit with an aspiration to be 'for the many, not the few?' It's a tricky balance, especially once this type of stuff gets into the public consciousness as it will during an election campaign. And that's before even thinking about whether the Government can afford to reduce fares while maintaining the large levels of investment that the private sector has provided. As I said, tricky to say the very least...and having worked in central Government policy in one department or another for the last decade, I really don't know whether there is an answer beyond acting on belief and opinion. Small Government or large Government? That's what everything ultimately comes down to. -

My understanding is that although the original PFI agreement should have allowed free use by a specified date, Government is allowed under different legislation to continue charging or to allow charging to continue for as long as they like. I'm afraid it isn't 'illegal.' If the elected Government of the day decides to introduce road tolls on motorways at some future point - as has been mooted frequently - then they can do so. It may not be politically popular, or fair, but they can do it. -
Part-time 4WD is fine - it will get me in and out of the village when paired with Winter tyres in the event of snow. Helps when the lanes are really muddy too, which with all the ploughing currently underway they are! If I needed to go off-road regularly I'd get an AWD Subaru tbh.
-
I quite like the exterior styling, interior not so good notwithstanding the fact this is 'pre-production.' I'll be looking to downsize from my NX in 3 years or so and this may well fit the bill - as long as it is available with 4WD and depending on whether Honda launch the next generation HR-V with a petrol/auto/4WD combination.

Replaced the 2014 CT 200h Advance...
First_Lexus replied to colin79666's topic in Lexus CT 200h Club
I'm also a fan of that colour - it really suits the CT. If you are planning on keeping the car longer term, I'm also a fan of a ceramic coating. I've had a Gtechniq coating applied to my new NX, and even though it's only been a couple of months it makes cleaning so quick and easy. Not cheap though - £600 for the NX - but for me the time saved in cleaning to get a great result is worth it...and that comes from a committed detailer who used to show cars. -
This is certainly the case with mine in the display between the dials (no HUD in Luxury). I'd assume it's the same, i.e. HUD mirrors functionality elsewhere.

luxury 2018 NX Luxury
First_Lexus replied to First_Lexus's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Having now had my NX Luxury for three months and almost two thousand miles, I'm very happy. Barring the odd squeak from the rear - correctly diagnosed by a forum member as the rubber boot mat rubbing against the tailgate so easily sorted - my view is that; - the NX is comfortable, and very quiet and refined at all speeds - power and performance is good. I've read many threads about the 300h drivetrain not being powerful enough, but it is more than adequate for me. I'd say that those who think it is underpowered should remember what the majority of drivers on U.K. roads drive - Hyundai i10s, Fiestas, Astras and the like - and then realise what a privileged position we are in being able to drive the types of cars that we do - the ride quality is improved from the pre-facelift model, although I didn't have an issue with it even then. I wouldn't want the harder F-Sport though, that isn't for me - interior quality is excellent - customer service from Lexus Swindon has been very good indeed - standard equipment is comprehensive. Criticisms are minor. The navigation isn't as intuitive as it could be, as noted by most users. The paintwork seems very brittle and chips easily - much more so than previous marques except VW - and this has been the case with my previous Mercury Grey as well as the current Mesa Red. Having driven and considered many cars before going for an NX - from Subaru, Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Volvo - I'm pleased with my choice. In three to four years time I will downsize with my retirement, possibly to a smaller Lexus depending on what is available at that time. -
If you cannot choose lexus what brand would you go for?
First_Lexus replied to dutchie01's topic in Lexus General Discussions
The problem with 'reliability' surveys like that found in What Car? this month, is that they are often based on owner responses rather than tangible data. It seems obvious, but a few years ago I listened to a chap on the radio discussing the JD Power survey - he was some sort of motor industry expert. He stressed that any survey based on owner feedback has a number of significant flaws. First, the expectation of the owner. A small fault, not worthy of mention by one respondant, could be listed by others. If somebody had bought a cheap brand, their expectation may also be different to somebody buying a 'premium' brand. Second, whether the respondent chose their vehicle. Those who are given a company car, especially those with little or no choice, are (he said) likely to be more critical of that car if they really wanted something else. Lastly, what the chap called 'justification.' If a respondent has spent a considerable amount of money on a car then they sometimes ignore faults as they are justifying their purchase - to themselves and others. Such an owner wouldn't want to see their car or car brand perform badly in a survey as they feel it reflects badly on their choice. It is a complex area, but since hearing the discussion I've only been interested in surveys that use tangible data - usually from warranty companies. Anything requiring owner feedback - which could or should be called opinion or perception instead - is interesting but not necessarily reliable. As Blackadder would say, they're a bit like a broken pencil...pointless. -
I ended up going for the Mesa red on my Luxury NX, and it really is a lovely colour when the sun shines. When the sun isn't shining it does indeed look rather dull. Even so, it gets plenty of compliments - and sorry about this, but the courtesy NX I had for a couple of months in Sonic White is the same. Nice in the sun, but looks like a flat 'normal' white otherwise. I had a couple of colleagues question why somebody would buy such a nice car '...and have it painted like a cheap van.' Quite. They wouldn't have said that if it had been clean and the weather sunny though...much like the Mesa red. See photos - in the sun it really sparkles - otherwise it looks like a flat deep red. IMHO the best colour for the NX is the Mercury Grey. For a car that won't be cleaned or detailed regularly you can't go wrong with silver. Hides almost anything!

Ready to dip my toes in the detailing waters
First_Lexus replied to sorcerer's topic in Lexus Car Care & Detailing
Personally I've found C2v3 the best of its type that I've used, but only marginally better than CarPro Reload. The finish is very impressive, especially the depth - on my paintwork anyway. What I would add is that my NX has the GTechniq ceramic coating applied, which may make a difference. Having been 'into' Detailing for some years - and having shown Minis for a few of those years - my advice is simple. Try a couple of products of each type that fit with your budget. When you find something that works for you, stick with it. Try not to get caught up in the discussions about the next 'wonder product' on places like Detailing World as it is mostly opinion based on preferences, with associated impacts for colour, paint condition, and preparation. For everyday products I have found the Bilt-Hamber ranges hard to beat over the years. I find myself returning to them, and that's the best sign that they suit my preferences. -

Back to Honda for me, alternatively Volvo or Kia. Numerous bad experiences with German marques mean I'd never consider a BMW or VAG product again. -
Interior squeak - rear of car

Aha! Many thanks, you win the prize @C Mclean. It looks as though that was the issue...ironic, as Lexus had the whole of the back of my previous NX stripped looking for it! I’ve let them know too...😂😂🤣 -

My previous NX didn’t have a subwoofer, but had the same noise. Possible I guess.
