  1. I get between 39-42mpg without trying in my NX. Mainly driven on local lanes and C-Roads, hardly any motorway driving.
  2. My brother-in-law has just ordered a Velar rather than going for an RX, even though he admits the Land Rover engine (diesel) is underpowered and rough and he knows about the reliability concerns. His rationale is that it will be bought on a PCP, will be under warranty, and that he won't care if it keeps going wrong (we will see!). These days I think reliability is less of a concern for many people as they only plan on (effectively renting) a vehicle for 2-3 years from new. Have to say I'm amazed that the PCP deal on a Velar was cheaper than on the RX - a measure of Land Rover sales woes I guess - but the real clincher for him was image. Personally I think the image is pretty naff - think footballers and their wives - but it would seem I'm in the minority. I've already told him that I'll laugh - a LOT - the first time he gets stranded...
  3. ^^ I wouldn't really call it a problem, it's just that both my current NX and my previous NX (different colours) seem to have very brittle paint - worse than I'd expect from a 'premium' brand and worse than most of my previous cars. The shine and finish are excellent, but prone to damage in my experience. I've got more stone chips - on the front and lower sides - after 4K miles and 6 months than I had on either of my previous Hondas after 3 years and 40k miles. That's a bit of a disappointment, and it will make me think twice about another Lexus when the time comes to change. We'll see how it fares as time and mileage progresses further. There are a few interior rattles starting too - more like vibrations and creaks. I'll also see whether those develop and probably get them looked at when it goes in for its first service. They are minor, but a little surprising. Granted, my driving is on mainly rural roads which are rutted and full of potholes, but I wasn't expecting such issues from a Lexus. Minor issues perhaps, and not issues that are preventing my enjoyment of the car.
  4. In contrast, I’ve had RX courtesy cars for a couple of weeks (lots of issues with my first NX - eventually deal done to replace with Lexus help) and, although it is a very good vehicle, I prefer the NX. A lot of that is down to size (narrow lanes where I live) but in general I found the gains for the type of driving I do to be marginal. As others have stated, the NX is quiet, well made and relatively economical, and buying new the saving over an RX is significant. Saying all that, when I come to change I’ll look to downsize to the UX as even the NX is really bigger than I need or want. I’d say that if you really need space or just prefer the bulk of a full sized SUV then get an RX - there isn’t a better choice on the market imho. But if you really don’t need the space the NX is just great.
  5. I can only agree with previous comments. Make your own mind up, and if it fits the bill then get it. If we only went on 'professional' reviews then we'd probably all be driving German cars... I find the NX to be well made, quiet, comfortable and with good mpg for an SUV. It isn't the most practical choice out there, and some of the design details are frustrating - having to lower the rear seats from the rear doors rather than from the boot area as an example - but these are the sort of small issues every car has for some owners. The only other thing I'd say is you should drive the Luxury or Premier version as well as the F-Sport, as the ride and seats are softer. That doesn't suit everybody, but imho it's worth trying out before you commit.
  6. I've no real complaints about Lexus customer service. What irritates me is when mechanics - and this has happened with Lexus - seem not to treat my car with real care. For example, scuffs on the plastics on the door and door sills shows (to me) that not enough care was taken and that they were probably rushing. A few weeks ago, they left finger marks on the boot lid where they'd shut it...but there's a handle specifically there to avoid that! It isn't something enough to complain about, but if the customer service - or perhaps customer care - really was 'exceptional' then it wouldn't happen imho.
  7. Give me an EV UX with a 100-150 mile range and I'd be very interested. Seems unlikely in the short term though.
  8. This is quite easy for me - as the question is which Lexus does what I need (most of the time). I need height for easy access, so that rules out the CT, IS, GS, RC & LC. I need 4WD to cope with my rural setting and daily commute on C-roads and lanes. I don't need space - it's just for me - no pets, no tools, and that rules out the RX and my own NX. Without having driven one, I think by a process of elimination my ideal Lexus will be a UX with 4WD.
  9. @Bluesman I think his problem with the image is - as he put it - that it's '...a bit golf club.' There's an element of the Alan Partridge effect in that description i.e. the image in his perception is that of the self-made middle classes or we could call it 'new money.' He also won't consider Audi, BMW or Volvo for a variety of reasons, some also image related. It's not something I'd really thought of when I bought mine, and having had a variety of cars over the years the 'image' isn't something that personally bothers me. I prefer to buy what I like and I agree with @PaulWhitt20 completely. Mind you, being hypocritical, I wouldn't consider an Audi or BMW because I don't like the brash image that is my perception of those brands. I was just curious to see what others thought.
  10. Following on from this thread If you cannot choose Lexus I wondered what member views were on what driving a Lexus says about you? Now, I have to declare an interest here. I have a friend, and I recommended they look at a new RX. They've been to view and really like the car, but won't consider actually owning one because of concerns about the Lexus 'image.' Alan Partridge was a long time ago, but does Lexus have a slight image problem in the UK? It was described to me as '...a bit golf club.' It isn't something I'd really considered before, and I'm interested in views - without rose tinted spectacles!
  11. My commute is 15 miles on c-roads and single track lanes. Over the past two mornings the roads have been icy with below feeezing temperatures added to damp conditions. The initial signs for tyre grip are good. These Bridgestone do inspire confidence, and feel very grippy indeed. I don't think they're any better than my previous Falken Winter tyres, but they are quieter. Fingers crossed they are good if and when the going gets snowy...but so far I'm impressed.
  12. Could be a mouse on the back of a rat riding a fox...like something out of Wind in the Willows 😂
  13. As there are no visible footprints that would indicate a larger animal, it could be mice or rats - they love to chew. Put some talcum powder on the roof overnight for a couple of days and see if any clues are left. After that, it's poisoning time!
  14. My Sister had similar issues with crows a couple of years back. Amazing the damage they could do...but they tended to focus on window and sunroof surrounds, I assume because of the reflections?
  15. Over the past year I’ve had ‘standard’ NXs and an F-Sport on long term loan, and I’d agree with you @olliesgrandad The F-Sport ride and seats were too hard for me, I find the standard set-up more comfortable. Should add that I’ve also had an RX450h F-Sport and a standard Sport model and found similar - the standard set-up was far more to my taste (and quieter too).
  16. I’ve never had a car which displayed pressures by tyre in the car...but this is my fourth or fifth with TPMS.
  17. No problem @NemesisUK, at least I'm not going mad!
  18. @NemesisUK My NX doesn't seem to have this option. I've looked through the full user guide and there is no mention of being able to view pressures that I can see. Having also scrolled through the in-car menus, the only thing relating to tyres is the TPMS re-initialisation function. Have any other NX owners found this function? If so, how do you access it?
  19. Congratulations! Out of interest, what brand(s) are you coming to Lexus from? What was it that swung the final decision?
  20. Where would I see those? In the car somewhere?
  21. My Winter tyres are now sorted - only took a few minutes at Lexus Swindon. I asked about the 'first set' being in range when the 'second set' were programmed but they said that wasn't necessary. Whatever, the TPMS stayed off on the short motorway journey home, so that's good. My first impression of the tyres themselves is how quiet they are, which I wasn't expecting as they have a much more aggressive looking tread pattern. They are significantly quieter than the standard fit Summer Yokohama Bluefficiency, which may say more about those than the new Bridgetones. Anyway, a good start. Once we have some proper Winter weather I hope they grip as well as they reduce noise!
  22. Sorry, I wasn’t clear. Lexus say the recalibration is via the steering wheel controls - same as if the system activates - so no need to involve Lexus at all.
  23. Car is going back to Swindon tomorrow. Dealer says the new valves were programmed but that sometimes the car reverts to the previous set. They can force it to accept which solves the problem - hopefully, They also say that the car can accept two sets of valves so the seasonal swap just involves recalibration which is a 2 minute job. Fingers crossed!
