  1. I just took my LC 500h in for its 2 year / 20,000 mile service. In fact it has less than 18,000 on the clock. The local dealer did a free health check, which passed OK. However they warned me about the state of my front tyres (Bridgestone Turanza T005’s).

I don’t drive the car hard, so they still have 5.4 mm of tread, but the dealers techy reported (in a video - how modern!) that the tread on both front tyres is “perishing & the inside shoulder worn and undulated”.

I was astonished! Is perishing what one expects on tyres which are so new, and after so little mileage? I’ve never seen this phenomenon on a car in all my 45 years of driving!

It is highly likely that they will not pass the car’s first MOT in a year’s time, but they will still probably have plenty of tread left on them.

I  did a bit of reading, and the reason all the websites gave for tyres perishing was always as a result of long term UV radiation. In other words, leaving the car out in the sun for years on end. Mine is always garaged in an underground garage. Sounds like sub standard tyres to me. I have yet to find an alternative to Bridgestones, unfortunately. Any insights, anyone?

  2. Hi all, As a matter of interest I have now discovered how to back up the favourite destinations from the owners’ manual. It is hidden away on page 114 of OM11432E.pdf . The problem with this entry is that the relevant keyword Backup will not be found in this connection; it appears on a menu screen shot (“Backup favourites to USB”) but not in the actual text, so it is not searchable; So wading through the dozens of indexed entries against this keyword will miss this important one. I have suggest that Lexus get their technical authors to check this out, amend it, and ensure that customers of future software updates are made aware of how to do this in advance!
  3. Hi Colin, I tried this yesterday, on a familiar route from Bristol to Newport. It is about 30 miles. I created the route on the website, and successfully downloaded it. Oh dear! Firstly, the voice command would not recognise the destination, so I selected it manually. The Sat Nav wanted to send me in a ridiculous circle around Bristol, and got itself into such a mess that when I reached my destination it told me I still had 59 miles to go!!! I don’t this this is a work around…
  4. Thanks Malcolm! Nice to be of use! The manager at Bristol promised to report my concerns up to Lexus, which I shall hold him to. You may care to get them at your local dealer to do the same in due course. Let's push them to improve!
  5. Thanks Nemesis. Is yours an LC? Cos my LC manual does not seem to have this option.
  6. Interesting idea Colin! I had never heard of Techstream but I have just been reading about it. It seems only to be a diagnostic tool and a tool for changing settings. I could't find a manual. so can't see if there is an option of backing up or exporting the data. Do you know better?
  7. Today my LC 500h had its first service. The manager at Lexus Bristol proudly boasted that they would also do a software update. Great, I thought. It might rid the infotainment system of some of the bugs that have been irritating me for the last year, like the little map on the right hand side goes all blue sometimes, and sometimes a phone call cannot be ended; you have to reboot the infotainment system. There are many others, like - if you gag the navigation voice (Mavis, I call her) using the clunky unintuitive touch pad, and then after a while stop and then restart the car at, say, the motorway services, Mavis becomes miraculously ungagged, and starts telling you how to get back onto the motorway as if you had the memory of a goldfish and can’t read road signs. Bloody annoying... Well, I haven't even thought about seeing if any of these bugs have been fixed since I got the car back, because I was disconcerted (but for some reason not surprised, judging by the appallingly cackhanded design of the infotainment system) to find when I went to drive home that ALL my 50+ navigation favourites had been deleted. Furious? Me?? Nah… I pointed out calmly and forcefully to the manager that if Microsoft were to wipe all their users’ personal data every time they did a software update, they would have gone out of business so long ago that we would now be saying Micro who? He didn't seem to see the difference between software and data. Apparently neither do the witless IT apes at Lexus who wrote the software update… Anyway, after I got home I tried to find a way to back my data up, export it, extract it or otherwise preserve it from being overwritten by the next overweening software update. Apparently it is impossible. So now it seems I must keep a separate copy of all my important destinations, just like people did the century before last, ready for them to be overwritten by the next software update, in a years time… Is this abject stupidity normal among car makers, I wonder? All comments welcome. Incidentally, apart from this inexcusable idiocy I still think the LC is the best car to drive, the most amazing head turner, super fast when you spin it into Sport +, comfortable, economical (I can get well over 40 mpg on a long steady cruise up the M4) since sliced bread…
  8. Thanks Malcolm. I think, according to the reviewers, that the touch pad at least is a new design! I hadn't notice that the AHBC does what you say. So far it has seemed magic! I'll keep an eye on it. I'm going to go quiet for the next couple of weeks; going on a (non driving) holiday! I'll be testing the satnav thoroughly on the way to the airport though. On another note, did someone post that link to http://clubaristo.net/forums/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=176 that I am seeing above the reply box? My browser is giving me big "DANGEROUS" warnings about it!
  9. Mine is Sonic red / Black. Suits me! I've been playing with the adaptive cruise control today, and yes it is a bit heart stopping sometimes, but I'm still in one piece. The lane keep assist is a interesting too. I don't think I'll be using that much... I'm even getting used to the much maligned infotainment system... The voice control works quite well once you get used to it too. The car is certainly a step up from my GT86!
  10. Hi Zotto, Are you thinking of getting one? What would you like to know?
  11. Hi, I picked up mine yesterday, the first in Bristol I believe. The car is amazing! Photos and videos simply don't show how big it is or really grasp its sheer beauty. It can be delightfully quiet; I was cruising down the M4 in comfort mode yesterday watching (nervously!) the adaptive cruise control keep me a safe distance from the cars in front as they changed speed and lanes. I had some music playing really quietly, and I could hear it perfectly. On the other hand, even though mine is the lower powered hybrid (a mere 354 Hp), I demonstrated to a friend what happens when you switch it to sport+, and put your foot down. The car was transformed. The friend was, shall we say, “astonished”! The shortcomings in the reviews are true - the rear seats are too small for anyone over five foot six, the touchpad controls take some getting used to, (not as bad as some reviewers have said) and there is very limited storage space. But what a drive! I've got a lot to learn before I will feel I really know the car.
