I hear no clicking noise and I don't hear my brakes screech. But I also don't have the active rear steering. So, just wondering whether it only happens on cars that have that option.

Hi In calculating the depreciation, I've taken account of whether the car had a sport pack or a sport plus pack and I've included the costs of the HUD and the updated stereo if present. I have no data about the condition of the cars, but I assume that's covered by the milage. There is also no correction for the location of the car although I may mention that the one limited edition that is for sale is in Belfast. It is for sale for £74,995 with 5,300 miles, a depreciation of £17,000 pounds (quite depressing for those who bought this limited edition, thinking that it would hold its value better.) An updated graph (with one more car in it) is: On the basis of the information one may estimate (by linear regerssion) that on average one looses about £5,000 pounds as soon as one leaves the courtyard, that one looses another £4,500 for each year the car gets older and that one looses about £ 1 per mile that one drives it. Others (Jules 640) may inform us about how much one looses op top of this by selling it. Not good? I'm quite sure that the results would be a lot more depressing for the Mercedes S class coupe or a BMW 7 series. Or for owning horses. Ben

Hi There are now 17 used LC 500 for sale on autotrader. I was interested in seeing what the depreciation would be as a function of the number of miles. The following graph results. All 17 but one are for sale from Lexus dealers. What suprises me is the variability and the fact that there are at least four cars with less than 6,000 miles and more than 15,000 pounds in depreciation. It seems to me that the dealers are shooting themselves in the foot. By pricing the used cars so low they may be sold a lot quicker. But, I imagine that if you see these figures as a potential buyer, you would think twice about buying a new one. Did they make the LC 500 too expensive from the start? Ben

Hi Is it correct that my steering wheel isn't heated all round and that there are some cold patches? I had a jaguar XK with this option and the whole wheel got warm. Much nicer. The steering wheel that is. Ben

I'm still quite happy with my LC500, but I tend to agree that I'm not sure about it as a daily driver. The same is true from my motorcycles. I use a 2011 mercedes CL500 and a 2007 citroen C6 as daily drivers. Nowadays both can be picked up quite inexepensively (although I need to warn about the costs of repair for the c6). Quite often the LC500 is my children's (11 and 12 years old) car of choice on the schoolrun. One child in the passenger seat and one in the back behind the passenger seat. I bought it because I think it's beautiful. There are many cars which are better in some aspects, none of those have me decide that I shoud trade it in. However, would I ever come into financial difficulties, the LC500 is probabaly the first to be sold. Or maybe after the motorcycles. Or no, after my wife's horses.

I imagine we will see a lot of them in the diesel version which is under £80 K, goes to 60 in 4.9 seconds at 49 mpg. Quite a sensible choice. And maybe, on an empty carpark, you won't always find somebody parked just next to you, which, I have to admit, is quite an annoying feature of the LC500. It's prettier than the 6 series and the s-class coupe. I imagine that there is more room in the back than in the LC500 and as such to be preferred if you only want one car.

Got a phone call from the dealer concerning my lexus smart cover insurance. It went like : Uuhh, we are very sorry but it appears that we can't repair scratches and stone chips on the structural blue cars. Of course we will refund you the costs of the insurance. Not sure how to react. The fact that such insurance exists, gives one peace of mind and may have helped me to decide to buy the car in this colour. I have already one minor scratch and one stone chip. Will be exiting to find out what they suggest what to do with those. Or better, what it will cost to get those taken care of. I'm quite disappointed.

Please be aware that the structural blue limited edition does not come with a sports or sports+ pack. I bought mine only knowing the price, the colour and the interior. In all honesty I was a bit diasppointed to find that the premium price is just for the colour and the interior. So, it's quite a lot extra for looks only. Well, there is the rarity of course, which may help it to keep its value a bit better. Don't wait until retirement. Sometimes, dreaming about a car is just as nice as owning one. Sometimes owning one is a disappointment. Not in the case of the LC500. Moreover, you'll be used to the touchpad in 2022.

Hi, I'm kind of warming up to the touchpad. In the mean time I've kept my mercedes cl 500 and I think that it is the more comfortbale car, less bumpy, and the controls are much more intuitive. As a result I quite often choose the mercedes above the lexus, especially when I expect a boring drive. The mercedes isn't better or worse, it's different. If I'd be forced to choose, the lexus would definitely stay. It can do everything the mercedes can - maybe less comfortably - but it shines in so many more ways. Be careful with putting the lc 500 in the most sporty mode. It is very, very addictive. And I'm not into driving very fast at all. Ben

Hi, No, I'm definitely not driving it around too much. Why not? First of all, I drive a lot, about 350 miles a week and if I'd use the lexus all the time this would add up to about 15,000 miles a year. I don't really want that. Most of the miles I drive are rather boring, the M1 and traffic jams in York and Sheffield. So, I haven't sold my mercedes cl 500 which I use for this. It's a 2011 model which has stopped depreciating. So, currently I keep the lexus for trips when I don't expect a traffic jam and the need to use cruise control. What do I think? I think it is much sportier than I thought. If I have to rate the car in a row of some of my previous cars I'd say that it drives less sporty than a lotus elise or an audi tts, more sporty that a jaguar xk 5.0, a jaguar xk 4.2 and much, much sportier than a mercedes 500 cl. About as sporty as a porsche boxter s. The Mercedes is - in my view – a more relaxed car. The comfort mode in the lexus does not make it that comfortable. It remains quite a sporty car. I'm not quite used to the infotainment system. I'm a big fan of the colored head up display. I don't like the fact that not the whole steering wheel gets warm evenly (the outside gets warm much faster than the inside.) It's not fit for 4 people but for 3 people (my children age 12 and 11 and me) it is fine, we put the passenger seat a bit more forward and they are both quite comfortable. I didn't like the adaptive cruise control. I was continuously slowing down without wanting this. I do like all the other warning systems, including the lane departure warnings, forces me to indicate. In the evenings I get quite some people signaling as if I am driving with main beam on while I am not. Quite irritating. I have to see what I can do about that. I have washed it already a few times. Lovely car. Best thing, in my view is how it steers and how it responds to the throttle. And how, when you walk to it, you think, mmm that is a gorgeous car. Question is, should I sell the mercedes? Or am I doing the right thing, saving the lexus a bit? Am adding some pictures (including one of the mercedes). Yours, Ben

Hi, Today, when at the Lexus dealer to finalize the purchase of the LC 500 (handing over the form for my number plate) I was asked whether I wanted a tracker installed. Hi, People have different ideas. I have ordered this car because of the interior. It seemed that the only way that I could get this interior (after the first edition and in the UK) was in this special edition and when I ordered it I didn't have a clue what structural blue was. In the mean time I've seen this interior in a white first-edition-car. I still like it a lot but I'm quite happy that I'm getting it in a blue car. Very blue, as I understand now. I'm expecting delivery next week. I am thinking about getting it wrapped. Not sure though. Any advice? Yours, Ben

I suppose that most people think a while before they buy a car and I’ve recently made a down payment for a lexus lc 500. Now I have this horrible need to rationalize this. I'm not sure whether other people are interseted in my reasoning, but hey. Let me start wit saying that I am not a Lexus man, I’ve never owned one before. I’m more of a Jaguar man. In my life I’ve owned a number of XJ’s (series 3), two jaguar MKII’2 and two jaguar XK’s. Before I got to the XK’s I also owned a lotus elise, an audi TTS and a porsche boxter. And with that I owned a renault avantime (a great car) which I traded in for a citroen c6 which I still own. My last XK was traded in for a Mercedes cl 500 which is what I’m driving now. I’ve never seriously contemplated buying a porsche 911. In all honesty, after the lotus, the boxster and the TTS, I realized that I don’t want a “real” sportscar. I want a grand tourer with a lot of spare power which I like to be available but rarely use. It pleases me that it is there, but I’m not a racer and I have little joy of going through corners as fast as possible. Maybe I should mention that I also own a Ducati Monster 821, which passes the speed limit a lot more often than any car I have ever driven, and when I want to feel the buzz of fast acceleration, the Ducati is way more fun than any sportscar I have ever driven. So, I like a grand tourer and I like a v8. Jaguar has stopped production of the XK and I don’t like the F-type being – in my view- a wannabe boxster or cayman. The new Mercedes S coupe is – again in my view – not as beautiful as the CL. I don’t like the lines as much and I don’t like the interior as much. They are more expensive but second hand ones with only a few thousand miles on the clock seem rather inexpensive and definitely in the same range as an lc 500 (especially the structural blue one). I’ve never ever considered a BMW. I may also add that I don’t like the M3’s and Audi RS’s of this world. I always seem to think that these are nice cars but that they have spent too much time in the sport-school. I like a car that has been developed as a sportscar. I remember a test between a jaguar xj and a citroen cx prestige and the man from jaguar saying: there is a big difference between developing a luxury car and making a car luxurious. I also assume that there is a big difference between developing a sportscar and making a car sporty. Now the LC isn’t a sportscar. It is a luxury GT, for me the real replacement of the jaguar XK. Other alternatives that I’ve thought about are a second hand Bentley but I don’t play football anymore and I’ve never played at a level that I could afford a BentleAy, A second hand aston martin db9 would fit the bill and I’m not sure why I don’t want one of those. And then there is the Maserati and I should admit that saying “honey I’m taking the Maserati” sounds better than “honey I’m taking the lexus”. But a lexus lc 500 it will be. A rational decision I would argue. Or not?

The car is expected to be delivered on December 19 but I'm gonna wait one more day to pick it up as the 20th is - quite coincidental - my birthday. There is one with the white/blue/orange interiror for sale, about 12 miles from where we live. I had a look at it. In all honesty, I think it's beautiful but it doesn't go that well with the white exterior. So I have to wait and see. Yours, Ben

Hi, I liked the pictures of the white/blue/orange interior in the lexus lc 500 but noticed that you couldn't get this in the UK. When I saw a red one displayed at the great Yorkshire show I asked why this was the case. Without a definite answer I was called three weeks later that this interior would come in a special edition "structural blue". I testdrove a white LC 500 and put a payment down on the structural blue one. Only ten seem to be shipped to the UK. 5 hybrids and 5 V8's. I'm expecting delivery of my V8 at December 19. It may all be a bit stupid as I've never seent the car in this colour. Moreover when I ordered it I didn't have a clue about the exact specifications. But hey. I trust I'm gonna enjoy it. Ben
