  1. Thread from the dead but I concur with my learned friend. He also put it a little more politely than I would.
  2. Quite. While I had winters on I've been hit from behind at traffic lights and in the side from someone who couldn't stop at a give way. We all know it's not just tyres though. We've had a bit of snow overnight and the temperatures really dropped. The snow hasn't really settled but it is slippy and the complete lack of awareness from some is astonishing. Racing down our little side street without a thought that stopping might be an issue.
  3. See if you can get Nokian in those sizes. Excellent winter tyres. I find Oponeo to be the most user friendly site for searching by size, brand, vehicle, whatever. They can be the cheapest by quite a margin too but obviously take into account fitting.
  4. Sorry Rob. Your 2JZ project is great and all that but can you just hang on while we talk about the stone age air-cooled flat four for a few pages? Especially the one in an orange '68-'72 1300 running on what could possibly be Empis.
  5. Weird thing is I fret more about my recent run of sub-£5k cars than I ever have about new ones. If they've been well cared for I feel I have to continue with that. If something happens to a new car I just think the insurance will sort it out. I'd be a lot more worried about my hypothetical mint LS400 than the hypothetical 7 seat RX.
  6. Agreed. My scepticism regarding the reviews aside, that price would automatically exclude them.
  7. Yay! Winter tyre thread! I assume you've checked Blackcircles, MyTyres, Oponeo etc? All the usual suspects? Reviews shmoos. Do they explode if you go over 30 or burst into flames once the temperature rises? If the Pirellis are the right price then get them. They're winter tyres, they'll be fine.
  8. I'm "off" new cars at the moment so for me it would have to be a mint low mileage LS400. If I had to choose a new one it would be the new 7 seat RX.
  9. I thought I'd got a squeak in my 2002 IS300 the other day. It seemed to be coming from the armrest area and I was all ready to set the car on fire and push it off a quarry edge when I realised it was the sleeve buttons on my Austin Reed tweed blazer. Unfortunately Austin Reed as was went into administration in 2016. If only everything in life could be as reliable as a Lexus.
  10. Ouch. I'm sure your Lexus dealer will either use someone cheaper or be able to recommend. Like when they farm out cosmetic repairs or alloy wheel refurbs rather than using their own bodyshop. I suppose it's down to how well you know them. I had sensors fitted to a Volvo V70 by a guy local to me for about £125 iirc and the tech who put my head unit in said he could put colour matched ones on my IS for about £150. 400 quid is definitely steep.
  11. Agreed. Local dealer would be my first stop. Then somewhere that fits quality car audio ie not Halfords. The simplest sort are just wired up to the reverse lights. Put the car in reverse, power to the reverse lights, activates sensors and audible beeper. It's the drilling holes in the bumper I don't like to think about. All that said, my IS didn't come with sensors and I initially thought I wouldn't manage but I have. Got used to it now.
  12. You should be able to get them done for around £150 And congratulations on your purchase.
  13. Don't go on reviews. Journalists are (obviously) paid to write something and disgruntled owners are always more vocal than happy ones. If you like the car go and have a look, try and get an extended drive and if it goes well then buy one. But don't go on reviews.
  14. Looking at other large 7 seat SUVs such as the Discovery, Q7, RR Sport, X5 and in particular the XC90, (which seems to be everywhere at the moment) I'm assuming Lexus thought "Yes. We'll have some of that". I don't think it's any larger than those I've mentioned and I can't see why it wouldn't be a success.
  15. Fate. Tempted. Not going far today are you?
  16. It'll sell well. Why wouldn't it?
  17. Agreed. If they absolutely had to have my car I'm not going to make it so difficult that I put my family at risk.
  18. Usually sticky pads but on the IS plastic screws because I couldn't be arsed to go to Halfords and I had the screws already. Never had any problems with the pads other than the residue is a bit hard to shift if you do have to change plates. I'm not the handiest with an electric drill either so pads are easier for me.
  19. Me again. Cleaned the MAF. Had been meaning to check it over and when I removed it the side facing the intake was absolutely black. A few good sprays and a good soaking with some contact cleaner and it looked brand new #10brakemod
  20. Have you used an online car forum before Chazz? If you start a thread about stainless steel braided brake lines and we're not talking about the pros and cons of winter tyres by the third reply then there's something seriously wrong. Surprised at Goodridge not listing. Might be worth a call to CAM in St Albans. Otherwise I know a mate had some made by Furore for his (I think) Evo.
  21. Could you not get a space saver tyre instead? I know which I'd prefer Alternatively https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lexus-Smart-Emergency-Repair-Compressor/dp/B01002Q844
  22. Give it up @doog442 You're never going to get much support for cyclists on a car forum. The vocal "they're a menace" lot will always win out. These sort of discussions are best avoided. I've dipped into this once or twice since my original posts, shaken my head and left again. I see stupid cyclists most days but I see a lot more stupid car, van and lorry drivers and the consequences of their acts of ignorance and stupidity are usually a damn sight more serious. Go and talk about winter tyres or something. Or politics. Much safer.
  23. I had one of those Teslas off the line in my '02 IS300. He couldn't stay with me etc etc
