  1. Lexus CT as a first car? If that's what he wants fair enough but dare I say a bit dull? Might be worth looking into these offers. First new car I ever had was a Citroen AX and part of the reason was for the free year of insurance with Direct Line. I'd never had insurance in my own name but if I renewed with DL after the first year I got a sizable NCD. Set me up for car insurance and I stayed with DL for quite some time.
  2. If it's just for emergencies I think I'd be tempted to go for a standard 17". There are loads of those on eBay. Anyhoo, I'd love to see pics of your car. Apart from the wheels it appears min has a twin!
  3. A car derived van. No rear seats for daft mates, still the safety features of the car it's based on, cheap to buy and cheaper to insure. Had a similar discussion with someone recently. What should you do about first cars? Something like I had (a '73 Beetle) that struggled to 60 and taught you how to drive properly but almost certainly a death trap in an accident or something much newer with comfort and all the safety gizmos that will also do 0-60 in around 10 seconds and top out at over a ton.
  4. No idea what they are but they're on mine too. https://lexus.7zap.com/en/eu/lexus+is/242210/jce10r-aeavfw/1/1106/111763/
  5. You might know your onions when it comes to the cars rayaans but that really is nonsense.
  6. That is good. It's tricky on my IS too. Not because I can't reach but because of the angle of the glass and rear speakers.
  7. A busy weekend but a quiet day at work so... I'm currently a big fan of the Meguiars waterless Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere so a quick once over this afternoon My car's also a bit of a bus for the kids at the moment so I picked up some seat back protectors from Amazon. Good fit and do the job (they actually look better than in the pic) Lastly, I thought my car was missing a bit of bling. I'd been looking for a decent tailpipe finisher but wasn't too impressed with what was on eBay. The 80mm diameter didn't help. So got out the metal polish and 15 minutes later...
  8. Had mine swapped out for a double DIN unit a few weeks ago but being terminally cack handed I got a local fitter to do mine. Nothing out of the ordinary as far as I'm aware but I do know the amp behind the glovebox has to come out/be bypassed. My guy's in Chesterfield if that's any help?
  9. I've had cars that you can hear the fans and (I assume) vents behind the dashboard adjusting for temperature and direction. A bit of a quiet whirr here and there. Could be that.
  10. If the pics have just been taken down then there's nothing you can do but *protip* if you're using Chrome and it's just down to those idiots at Photobucket banning third party hosting there's an extension available from the Chrome Web Store.
  11. Fair enough. You probably know more about this than I do. But my experience was the exact opposite. Denso threw codes and Bosch didn't.
  12. Sorry, haven't really been following this thread and you've probably got it sorted now but in my experience there's a reason why the ECP Denso ones are so much cheaper than OEM. If you haven't already then get the genuine part.
  13. Is the agreed value definately what they'll pay out should the vehicle be a write off? Sounds silly but I was always led to believe that ultimately it's still the insurer's call and if they think it's worth X and you think it's Y you'll still only get X. You can see I'm quite trusting when it comes to insurance companies...
  14. I've got used to mine. I don't really notice it now. Really shouldn't be replying to this thread...
  15. Try for a claim against the council before it's reported or marked for repair. I once got the price of a tyre, wheel and suspension work out of Sheffield City Council. Photos, an estimate and a polite letter and they just sent me a cheque! [edit] Though advice here https://www.theaa.com/breakdown-cover/advice/pothole-damage-how-to-claim seems to suggest they have a get out if they didn't know about it [/edit]
  16. Talking of Tiguans, a friend of mine has just found out that after ordering and paying for a 2.0TDI 4-Motion a couple of years ago he has in fact got a 2.0TDI front wheel drive. Oops. Interesting chats with JCT600 Volkswagen in Sheffield are ongoing
  17. "Best" is a bit of a can of worms. Depends on what you're after. I've got 17" Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT on my IS300. They're just fine. IIRC they were about £95 each.
  18. Just so you know, your postcode is in the link. Periods off the road, no MOT and hasn't been driven in 18 months. It'd certainly put me off even if the price didn't.
  19. There's an IMO near me. Lovely job
  20. Swapped out the high beams for these. 20 quid plus delivery from Autobulbs Direct. Tried to do a bit of a comparison but it's not too clear. However, they are whiter and much better on unlit roads. Before After
  21. Also it's Lookers and if they're anything like the Lookers in Sheffield go into any deal with your eyes wide open. I've never had a good experience with them.
  22. PM me if you want to get rid of them. I've been caught out again today and if it doesn't clear by tomorrow then my wife has to get a taxi in to work as I take the Volvo. Not good.
  23. You're doing the right thing. For their age these cars are relatively trouble free. I hear you when you say things are tight but it would be a shame to lose one through cutting corners.
