  1. Unfortunately it is quiet in the 1st gen IS section. If you're needing a reply a bit quicker you might be better off on one of the US forums.
  2. Agreed. Nothing has phased our XC90 with 19" Pirelli Scorpions over the last couple of days. Great fun too
  3. Enormous fun isn't it? I have to say that given the choice between the Nurburgring or the Nokian test track in Finland I think it would be Finland every time. Not sure which tyres you have one but if you do feel like getting a little more adventurous it's worth turning the traction control off. If the car senses quite a bit of slip it will just cut power, cut power, cut power until you're stood still. Knocking the gearbox into manual can really help too. This goes for 2WD or (Haldex on a Lexus?) 4WD.
  4. Had one do exactly that today. Didn't even look up before crossing and then just gave me the finger when he noticed I was about 3 feet away from him. Truly bizarre.
  5. Give it up John. You can't help some people.
  6. Pick an all season tyre or go down the two sets route. I'm in no position to recommend a particular tyre for your circumstances, I was pointing out that the Costco guy was talking nonsense.
  7. The man from Costco clearly talking out of his arse there.
  8. That reminds me of keeping everything running on my 6volt '65 Beetle. On a rainy night you had to choose whether you wanted lights or wipers. Coming up to a junction was a nightmare. As soon as you touched the brake either the wipers would stop or the indicators wouldn't flash. And if it was cold too you had to blip the accelerator at the same time as braking and putting the clutch down because the auto choke had turned off too early. It was fun though
  9. At under 46,000 miles it certainly deserves to be saved. Good MOT history too.
  10. You haven't really saved though have you? You just haven't spent money on it. Personally I think if you're acquiring a vehicle on any sort of finance then it's worth seriously considering. All the weird and wonderful things we enthusiasts are prepared to put our hand in our pocket for and we shy away from spending £150 over 3 years on GAP.
  11. Agree with Eggie. Go for the GAP but look elsewhere. Try ALA for a start. I've used them a couple of times. And..... a little story for you... A few years ago we had a van written off at work. No fault of ours but a total loss. It was on contract hire with Peugeot and obviously they were expecting another eg year's worth of rentals plus the van at the end of it. The insurance pay out (even after much arm twisting) was still well short of what Peugeot wanted. The entire settlement went to Peugeot plus we had to carry on making payments on a van that no longer existed just to make up the shortfall. Peugeot were extremely helpful and sympathetic throughout but I do remember speaking to one of their fleet staff and asking them if they had GAP insurance on their vehicle. She said "Yes I have. Because I spend all day talking to people like you that haven't"
  12. I can even see the accident repairs that I err... didn't know about
  13. I wasn't aware of this. I knew I could register my vehicle with Lexus but it wasn't really useful due to its age. It appears now that I have service and maintenance records going back to 2003!
  14. Negligible (if any) difference in fuel consumption. Turn it all to auto, set the temperature and forget about it. Good point.
  15. Assuming your controls are similar to my 2002 IS first thing is make sure A/C is ON. Make sure it's set to AUTO and that the direction control is also set to AUTO. Recirculation should be off. That should be enough to do the job and really doesn't ever need touching/altering from that. If it's still not clearing then the air con could be faulty or on the blink. See here
  16. This might be handy for part numbers https://7zap.com/en/
  17. Stand down. Found it. I think.
  18. Thread from the dead! Not too familiar with the engine codes on the IS200 but would the 1G-FE be from around 2002/2003? If so and the sump capacity is 3.9/4.1 litres can anyone give me the same info for my 2JZ IS300?
  19. Mine was done in 2010 at 33k. It's now done 57k-ish. Maintenance on the IS300 2JZ is 10 years or 100,000 I believe. I did have the belt cover off a few months ago and everything looked as clean as a whistle. Cheers Rebecca. I might be worrying about nothing. I'm just aware that my Lexus warranty ends later this year!
  20. A combination of key only opening of the boot and the car doors auto locking after a few seconds means I'm sure to do it at some point. Re: the sills. It's something I need to get around to checking. I see you did yours a year or two ago Glyn. I've got the factory body kit which may make it a little trickier but it's just about the only thing that worries me about this car. It's led a garaged and pampered life up to now and I don't want it to deteriorate in my care.
  21. Hi Gary, Good to have you onboard. The key thing - nearly done it a dozen times! Post some pictures up when you get a chance.
  22. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to monitor this a little more closely to see when it does it and when it doesn't. The car definitely doesn't sound like this all the time and it still runs as smooth as it always has.
  23. Returning to this. Got to work this morning, pulled up to open the shutters and everything was very rattly. I'm sure this can't be right. It's not like this all the time but often is quite noticeable. Note: Cold morning but up to temperature.
  24. Read good things about these. We run Pirelli Scorpion all seasons on the XC90 and compared to the previously fitted Nokian winters which we kept on year round I'd say they're not quite as much of a no brainer when you hit the slippy stuff but still very good. Where you could just plough on with little thought on the winters the all seasons need a bit more consideration about things like gearing or traction control. I'd recommend them.
