  1. Excellent stuff And very practical too. In case you need to justify purchases to anyone in particular.
  2. Thanks for that. Pads should be OK. The car is just under 4 years old and only done 25k miles. No dash lights either. He also turned 80 in January and doesn't exactly drive on the edge. He's going to get them checked at a local garage this week but when he mentioned it and then I had a look I couldn't help thinking about this thread. I don't suppose getting up to speed and slamming the anchors on a few times would do anything?
  3. Reviving this one. My dad's XC60 has started groaning from the OSR and a quick look shows the pad isn't in contact with all of the disc when braking. Could this be related to the topic discussed here?
  4. Back down to 211BHP. Someone pinched it. I hope their disappointment that it's not real carbon fibre is equal to my reaction this morning when I noticed it had gone!
  5. Good to know. We'll have you using a permanent marker to colour in stone chips before you know it
  6. There's this thing with dealers. Were his lips moving?
  7. So long as you got their reg no you should be OK. Nothing's ever 100% certain but at least they can be traced with that.
  8. You'll always miss the Mazda but that IS looks very nice. I made the jump to Lexus albeit 2 generations of IS previous to yours and I have absolutely no regrets. And welcome!
  9. Not much to gain on these N/A engines I'm afraid. I dropped a K&N filter in which was nice and cheap + gives you that "I've done my first mod" feeling. Makes no real world difference though. (If you do this check it after a day or two. Because the filter is vertical heat from the engine can make a drop or two of oil collect in the bottom of the housing) I haven't really done much else apart from the odd bulb/LED and a period head unit. Still fancy some spacers though, I do think that would improve its looks no end. Not a mod but Waxoyl might be an idea. Re your first point, at 16 years old and 195k I'm tempted to say stop doing that then! Secondly, my IS300 is very sensitive when it comes to wheel balancing. Get that checked first. I also have a slight clonk nsf that no one seems to be able to track down so I've stopped worrying about it.
  10. I did not know that. Probably because it's rear wheel drive. Bloody death traps they are.
  11. Regardless, MK Lexus are pulling your leg.
  12. On a previous car I had some cheap sensors fitted cheaply. They beeped when it was raining I'd be tempted to ask around and get quality non-OEM fitted by a decent local car audio place. The sort of place that fit high end audio for young men with disposable income. I don't think I'd use someone who comes to you and tries to take your bumper off on the drive. I'd also ring a dealer somewhere away from MK and ask for another quote to see if they are taking the mickey. Different car but Lexus Sheffield quoted me £300 fitted for genuine Lexus sensors on my 1st gen IS. :edit: Just read this. Top of page 2. Could just be parts rather than fitted but that's a lot of labour if it is
  13. I interpreted it that way too. I've tried a few times to touch up a nice scratch someone left down the osr door rubbing/bump strip but it flakes off every time. Possibly due to it being plastic? Anyway, apparently you can buy them pre-done but £££ so I find a black Sharpie does the job
  14. Benefit In Kind. Quoted For Emphasis.
  15. VED is £535 I don't care how safe it is, I'm not paying that. A Volvo?
  16. Will I remember or will I forget? Round and round she goes, and where she stops nobody knows. A little bit of excitement on the morning commute. Leave it in D, it's fine. Winter tyres work well if you rely on your car in bad weather. Using V-Power is largely an affectation.
  17. I like to flick mine into reverse just to keep the person behind on their toes.
  18. They are. And though they appear to be well made they're well made in terms of quality material, fit and finish rather than able to drive to the moon and back with little complaint. Active safety measures rather than steel girder solidity seems to be the order of the day too. An interesting statistic I came across last week was that nobody has ever died in an XC90 in the UK since the model was introduced in 2002. We're about to get rid of our XC90 family bus and that's a real pause for thought. Anyway, sorry. Thread hijack.
  19. So if your sunglasses are too dark (ie designed for some other use) you shouldn't drive in them? That's just common sense surely?
  20. Can't help you with genuine but I've used carmats.co.uk a few times and always thought they were more than acceptable. http://www.carmats.co.uk/lexus-car-mats/is200/lexus-is200-1999-to-2005-mats.html
