  1. So hold Info and rotate the light dial on the stalk 3 times? Mine goes Off>Sidelights>Main beam>Auto. I'll give it a go.
  2. If Ian doesn't mind me adding to this I've been over to Dave's two or three times since his car got there. Mainly to pry off bits of valuable trim when no one is looking but also to observe progress. Dave was fairly confident from the start that rodents were involved and once the bonnet was up the evidence was there to see. He'd come across this before and apparently they like to nest in the V where it's warm! It also smelled a bit Anyhoo, great news that the GS lives to fight another day!
  3. Pretty sure my jalopy doesn't have a hidden menu but I'll certainly have a look.
  4. Point taken Jeff but I think I'm correct when I say it's not part of the regular maintenance schedule. And I'd be concerned about doing more harm than good. It seems to be a bit of a forum favourite, especially American forums that reflect a general obsession with fluid changes of all types. Cheers Fred. I've resigned myself to the fact the stock system is poor. With the tweeters re-connected the BT via FM is passable but CDs are too bright. I can also get OK sound from a carefully recorded cassette. Yes, I still do this I've had home amps re-capped before but the sign they were failing was usually sound crackling or cutting in and out. I don't get that, just a lack of clarity.
  5. If you speak to him again I'd confirm that. I had my work done only a few weeks ago and he never quoted +VAT. Always "all in". I noticed because it's a particular peeve of mine.
  6. It's an acquired taste. But I feel beige interiors, smaller wheels and a softer ride become more appealing the older I get. *The Lexus GS 300. Avoiding the Nurburgring since 1993*
  7. Tony Banks would be an awfully long drive for Kal but I'm one of those satisfied customers mentioned above. I asked him to make the stainless system on my GS300 as quiet as possible and that's exactly what he did. If it's any help, you're booked in for a specific time and there's a McDonalds round the corner. Alternatively pop in to Leeds for a mooch round. It's not like you just leave it with them for days on end.
  8. Those rigs are impressive things. There's a tyre and exhaust place near me that has one and when it wasn't being used for MOTs we used it to find one or two suspension issues with my old 9-5 that would have been difficult with the car on a regular ramp.
  9. Pointless on an IS 250. As Shada says, only worth bothering with on petrol or diesel turbos. Probably the best bang for your buck mod you can ever do if you have a turbo.
  10. I took the GS down to the NEC classic show on Friday. Loaded the boot up with "just in case" stuff because apart from the drive back from Inverness I haven't really ventured very far in it. Needn't have worried because the car performed perfectly. Never missed a beat even when taking lengthy detours due to road closures and driving through a foot or more of water on one or two occasions. Have to say the air intake is very sensibly positioned! The car was absolutely filthy after all that so I took advantage of a break in the weather Sunday to give it a bit of a scrub up. Pretty much the usual pics again...
  11. Brilliant! You're an excellent sport Have to say the car does look splendid too. Happy with it?
  12. Out of the box it'll probably be 87.5 Just tune one of your radio presets to that. If 87.5 is no good just turn the dial anti clockwise to 108 and retune your radio. Quite simple really. I also find the USB ports handy. One is a dedicated charging port. To answer a call just press the button on your phone or the dial also acts as a button. I use these in my cars too.
  13. Rule of thumb is the very lowest or highest frequency. So 87.5 or 108. I don't really have a problem with interference in Sheffield.
  14. I've used one. They're OK but the FM Bluetooth doodaas are better. I use a couple of these in my cars that don't have BT.
  15. Quite possibly the most bizarre thread I've ever read on this forum.
  16. Are you considering buying either of them? Are you limiting yourself to Lexus or slowly working your way through eBay?
  17. Great stuff. Lovely motors.
  18. Further messing with the so called Lexus Premium Sound System. And believe me this is just about the only thing that annoys me about this car. I really can't believe the stock system (with nav) is as bad as it is. 2002 wasn't that long ago and decent systems were being fitted by manufacturers. So unless there is some age related issue (surely if an amp or head unit is faulty it would either work or not rather than deteriorate?) I can only conclude that it's generally crappy and they just wanted you to tick the Mark Levinson option. Out of the box it sounded muddy and unclear, lacking highs and at the same time overly boomy from the sub on the parcel shelf. The output also varies greatly depending on the source chosen necessitating much fiddling with bass, mid and treble. Turn up the bass and treble for a cassette and CD becomes unlistenable. Turn them back down but switch to FM/BT streaming and it sounds like you're listening with a bag over your head. Bizarre. So I tried disconnecting the tweeters and replacing the front and rear door speakers with some cheap Pioneer two ways. Yes they're cheap but better than stock. Still sounded like it was underwater and still much fiddling with settings depending on source. So then I reconnected the tweeters and now CD is so bright it gives you a nosebleed, cassette is OK but I need to experiment with one of my better recordings and with settings flat FM/BT is just about acceptable. I think that's about as far as I can go unless anyone has any comments? Were these MKII GS known for crappy sound? Is it because it's got the nav system and they skimped? A good job they didn't skimp on build quality for the door cards, I think I could get one off with my eyes shut now.
  19. Litre capacities are deceptive though. All of these may be comparable but the RX hatch is hugely more practical.
  20. ECP would probably be easiest. Currently £7.50 for a Mann one. Unless you feel the urge to fit genuine. If you do, speak to Russell in Montys Suzuki Parts and I'm sure he'll look after you. (Suzuki/Lexus share the parts dept)
  21. How often are you five up in the car? We're a family of five (two adults, 11yo, 8yo, 6yo) but we're not often all in the car together for long journeys. However, when we are then my new to me GS is more than roomy enough and cost less than the repairs on your Subaru. My family like to complain. A lot. If there wasn't enough room then I'd know about it.
