  1. Spent a lovely afternoon touring the Peak District listening to BBC Light Programme. Billy Cotton in session. Then we pulled over for a bit of Housewives' Choice Currently putting together some mix tapes again, now I like the stereo and all.
  2. Fitted them today and the difference in sound is like night and day. Obviously the cheap Pioneers were on a par with stock hence no improvement. Next bit of spare cash and I'm putting some in the rear doors too
  3. Imgur is a bit flakey. I've stopped using it now. Uploading to here is a better bet as you say. Re: the screen Paul. Have you tried ejecting the nav disc? The screen on my GS used to lock up and in fact it was the nav unit in the boot that was faulty.
  4. Still got my eye on a certain Soarer. Things are a bit tight at the moment but the seller says he's in no rush. 2JZ in the one I'm looking at.
  5. Funnily enough I got a complete mirror delivered off eBay yesterday. For all you high rollers in the gen 3 GS, mine was 25 quid delivered I only really needed the glass too. Now keeping in mind mine is second generation and yours is third, I popped in to see Dave at Lex-Tek but needn't have because replacement was very easy. There are 4 clips holding the glass to the backing. Swivel the glass so the mirror is pointing up and pull off the bottom two first and then the top two. Undo the connector and you're done. Fitting is the reverse. Again, there's a few years difference between ours but it shouldn't be vastly different. Hopefully the above will be of help.
  6. It's not a problem I've come across before and sounds like someone has arsed about with maybe an aftermarket unit and then put the original back in. Something along those lines. I think the problem with the clock is the clue that something has been rewired incorrectly. I don't think one from a breakers would solve your problem. Also, does the 200 have an in dash changer? The CD changers are a real weak point on the IS and there's a real risk that you'd be buying a duff one.
  7. A bit more than you paid for yours
  8. With the cheap Pioneers in and the tweeters disconnected it didn't sound much different from stock but with the tweeters connected it's too bright. Might go for the Alpines and hope for the best
  9. Right then. Back to this stereo. I'm assured by people who know about this sort of thing that the stock unit and amp aren't bad and a speaker upgrade is the way to go if I can't replace the head unit. Which I can't. So I was all set to pull the trigger on some fancy 4" Alpine 2 ways and spoke to someone at Car Audio Centre in Nottingham. He wasn't familiar with the second gen GS but when I told him I intended to put them in the bottom of the door he did say that might not be a good idea and mentioned that further investigation may be required because the factory amp may only send mid range frequencies there, high frequencies to the tweeter. Putting two ways in the door might be a waste of time. I wouldn't get that clarity and separation I'm after. Does this make sense? If it doesn't it's because I'm not describing the conversation properly rather than him not knowing what he was talking about. Does the amp in the GS do this? Help!
  10. Great stuff Ian. Welcome and try and get some pictures up
  11. Lovely stuff. Very jealous. I don't seem to be able to click on the pics though. Wasn't from the Leicester area was it? Saw one on Retro Rides a little while ago.
  12. I've returned new cars after very long battles with manufacturers/dealers. I fully appreciate how bloody arrogant they can be.
  13. So I just Googled a Crown 1JZ estate Welcome!
  14. Nah, not having that. A £75k car that makes that noise on the factory fit wheels and tyres and mainly seems to affect rhd vehicles? I'd park that in front of the showroom doors, put a disklok on it and leave it there until someone agreed to take it back. It's wholly reasonable to expect your car not to make that noise when you park. It's fashion over engineering, proper lowest common denominator stuff and the manufacturer/dealer should be held to account.
  15. The Mercedes situation is eye opening. Not sure how many of you are on Twitter but there's a video from Matt Prior of Autocar in a £75k GLC63 maneuvering in a car park and it sounds like something's going to fall off Related-ish: I think it's real shame about Mercedes. Anyone who still believes they're a premium brand is just kidding themselves.
  16. There's a firm in Sheffield that I know would be able to sort that for considerably less but as Peter says, it's a long way to come.
  17. Could be a special order. Did Lexus offer that for the LS? I rather like it It needs the proper wheels though.
  18. Started a similar discussion here a little while ago. I'm quite convinced that by running older motors I have less of an impact than my neighbours who change their superficially "clean" motor every two or three years. But then I would say that wouldn't I...?
  19. Of course. Silly me. Concentrating too much on the dash lights.
  20. Sounds like you've got a good 'un. The 400h is a lovely motor and I do sometimes wonder why I sold mine.
