  1. Saw this earlier on Twitter. The ones in that new little Honda thing look OK but these just look like someone's tacked on a cheap Android tablet. I should add that in either case I see little point in them. It seems to be tech for the sake of tech.
  2. I think the 400h comes with Xenons doesn't it? I was always under the impression that Xenons have to have a wash system. No idea why. Or that could be entirely incorrect. Isn't it supposed to be every so many squirts that it does the headlights? Regardless of whether they're on or off? You might be able to download a manual from Lexus UK.
  3. A20/A30 Celica? And yes, I have an OG9-3 Convertible. 50th birthday present to myself. I also recently ran a couple of 9-5 Aeros as daily cars but I missed the Lexus quality and refinement.
  4. Sorry. Slightly more interested in the car it's sat on. It appears to have bonnet vents
  5. It's a shame really. A bit of a half arsed attempt at luring owners away from independents. I believe BMW (or Sytner at least) do something similar and I don't know how it compares but it would be better if the service was identical but only available on cars over X old.
  6. Re: full price vs Essential Care. Firstly, I've found the older Lexus/Essential Care service to not be quite as comprehensive. Check the small print. Secondly, I've only been able to get the LOC discount on the full price service. My dealer won't further discount Essential Care. However, with Lexus Sheffield it actually worked out slightly cheaper (and more comprehensive) to go full service + discount.
  7. Love it
  8. Ditto but funnily enough I uninstalled it all last night. My GS has the C1336 Zero Point Calibration etc glitch which means that whichever OBD reader I connect and for whatever reason, I get the the C1336 code and associated warning lights. Not sure if it's my copy of Techstream, the laptop or the cable but the calibration invariably fails. No point me having the software if I can't clear this code.
  9. Heresy. Welcome Phil.
  10. Tbh if you're looking at spending ££££ on parts alone I think you need a different car. Not because I think such mods are a waste of time, I don't and I've done plenty of daft things to cars in the past. But because you mention cost more than once and also your lack of experience with one or two aspects of the conversion. Could you not source an IS300 and go from there?
  11. I think that would be silly without trying one.
  12. Actually credit where credit's due, Sheffield council have over the last 4 or 5 years resurfaced virtually every road and pavement in Sheffield. The difference is quite noticeable. On the one hand it does make some German thing on daft wheels a much more viable option but come at it the other way, a Lexus on smooooooth tarmac! Lovely stuff
  13. Precisely why I don't really pay much attention to reviews any more. I trundle round Sheffield not the Nurburgring. Low profile 19" wheels and race tuned suspension? There's a place for that and the morning commute isn't it.
  14. See above.
  15. Well first job could be the LED floor lamp we got from IKEA about two years ago. Started flickering and then went altogether. The bulb is sealed and cannot be changed and the only thing left to do is throw the whole thing away. A floor lamp!
  16. Great stuff Rob, as always. I find the work you're doing absolutely mind boggling. I also just checked and I've had three Lexus since you started this
  17. More and more I think I'd only buy either something pre-06 or something brand new with a cast iron warranty and get rid before it ends. Nothing in between.
  18. I've not owned a Lexus newer than 2006 ('02 IS, '06 RX, '02 GS) but I have been struck by how much easier they are to work on for basic jobs. I can't imagine they're as straightforward as your Sceptre but compare with newer vehicles or European vehicles of the same period and you quickly notice the difference. Thought has actually gone into how general maintenance tasks are carried out. Obviously there are always jobs that are a complete arse but try changing a headlight bulb on an '05 Volvo V70 and you'll know what I mean. I'm not sure which thread you're referring to that required the headlight to be replaced but I assume it's one of the newer Lexus with fancy LEDs or somesuch? Sadly this nonsense is becoming more prevalent.
  19. Bionic eh?
  20. Ah yes. Know the type. And I've heard the centre caps are rare and expensive. Found one on the Bay with the wheels but not the caps https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-GS300-SPORT-3-0-24V-AUTO-2JZ-PETROL-164359-MILES-SPARES-BREAKING-PARTS/254478175044?hash=item3b4014cb44:g:7kQAAOSwa5ReGagW All I've got is a set of the standard 5 spoke 17s. They look like 18s?
  21. Diesels aren't my area but it shouldn't be white smoke if the car is attempting a regeneration should it? I always thought white smoke from a diesel was something to do with unburned fuel?
  22. Hi Greg. Which are the Sport wheels?
  23. Plugs? Coil packs? Have you got a code reader? Plugs and coil packs are often ignored on the 400h because the back 3 are an arse to get to.
