  1. Easiest thing if you're not a DIY kind of guy (ie getting under it) is to get your hands on the Ultimate Speed oil pump (Google it). They were selling them recently at Lidl for not very much. I picked up a couple to use at work on the vans. Engine oil warm not hot, one tube down the dipstick, one tube into a container, connect to the battery terminals and switch on. Easy.
  2. Hi Dan. I assume this is in your IS200? Your best bet unfortunately is to find one out of a scrapper on eBay but then you're obviously taking the risk that one won't work either. Fixing them is costly as far as I can see. Back in the day Lexus sent units to a place in Bradford for repair and I tracked them down recently but that now involves them sending the unit to Germany. I totally understand you wanting the OEM look but your options are limited I'm afraid.
  3. As others have mentioned, it has to be the ECU/gearbox adapting to particular styles. If it's sorted now then fair enough and I agree that disconnecting the battery isn't ideal but on my GS there are two fuses that can be removed to force the reset without faffing with the battery or losing all other settings. Possibly something similar or the LS460?
  4. If it's the one I've seen on Autotrader then it looks like a very nice car. I'd happily pay that so long as the service history is complete. One or two thousand miles a year is enough to keep it healthy I'd say. Looking at the MOT history it hasn't had periods of inactivity either. Keep in mind though that as you point out Toyota/Lexus do have a reputation for reliability which means you can cast the net a little wider for higher mileage vehicles at a cheaper price.
  5. You've made me think about the boot on my GS now. I know the bonnet struts are tired (I have a perfect length of mop stale that solves that problem) but the boot is a nightmare. Guillotine as you say. And with the spoiler it's a nasty rattly bang if you're not careful.
  6. Ah, I misunderstood the screen reference.
  7. Has he ever driven a Shogun? A mighty machine but oh my goodness, a road car it isn't! Rookie mistake. Replying to a 4 year old thread
  8. Manufacturers don't always get it right. Saab/GM got into all sorts of bother back in the early 2000s because they recommended the wrong oil at service time. Semi-synthetic caused even extremely well maintained 9-5 and 9-3 engines to sludge up and eat themselves.
  9. I don't recall the lower price but Car Twitter had a bit of a giggle about the Chineses Rols Royce comment.
  10. Halfords do a perfectly fine alternative if getting hold of genuine is tricky.
  11. Has a camera though surely? I'm sure any dealer would be happy to fit as a genuine accessory. You'd pay through the nose but you get the guarantee. Or as Colin says, any decent bodyshop/garage could do them but there is quite a range of quality out there.
  12. Oh well. That's a shame. Plenty of lovely second hand cars out there though...
  13. A car from Robocop you say? This is the only car from Robocop
  14. Fair point with the fuel but that can obviously be said about any large engined petrol motor. But deep pockets for maintenance? Really?
  15. Exactly this. There's always someone on a forum that will tell you what you should pay, usually quite a way from what you see on Autotrader, C&C etc. Enjoy your motor, it looks a beauty!
  16. That is the best thing I've ever seen!
  17. Or not say anything at all. In my experience of traders you have to think of every possible question because nothing is volunteered. If you don't ask whether the car has ever been on fire they won't tell you whether the car has ever been on fire!
  18. Excellent! Well done to both of you.
  19. Always surprises me how much of a following all the 70s/80s/90s BL/Rover ******* has on car Twitter and I assume the Book of Face. I never say anything though, they're quite a vocal bunch.
  20. If anyone has trouble sourcing the correct touch up paint and you don't have an unusual colour I can recommend a Sharpie permanent marker
  21. I rather like the naff digital clocks. They make me smile Japanese car, digital clocks. Perfect match. First time I ever saw a digital clock in a car was in whatever the first gen XR3 was. A teacher at school had one and we only saw it through the window but thought it was really cool. I'll have probably been about 12 and went on and on and on about it. One day my grandad turned up at our house in his car (either a Toledo or Dolemite) and said he'd got something to show me. With a proud wave of his arm I could see he'd taped a little plastic digital clock to the dashboard.
  22. Those rears are what I have now. As you say, genuine OZ and I don't think I've seen them on anything else before now.
  23. It's OK Ron. I've kept the receipt you gave me. I'll be heading back up the A9 for a full refund in the next couple of days Don't worry, you did explain. I still might have a go at removing it. If it's held on with glue now it can be held on with glue again. Alternatively.... Cheers Steve but I think that's off the third gen. However I did find another which looks like a perfect match. I'm keeping an eye on it.
  24. Agreed, I've done mine a couple of times lately. Start the engine with the cap just on the first click just in case, then remove and while you're waiting give the hoses the odd little squeeze. I didn't put the cap back on until everything was up to temperature. I also had an excitable 12 year old revving the engine for me
