Cracked it. For the benefit of future generations of LS400 owners it was actually a hybrid (see what I did there?) of the various sets of rub your tummy/pat your head instructions floating around the t'interwebs. (I've amended the text) These instructions work for an LS400 with a build date of July 1996 using remote fob 89742-50631 Happy days 1. Driver's door OPEN and unlocked, all other doors closed and locked. 2. Insert YOUR key in ignition, DO NOT TURN, remove key. 3. Using the lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, slowly press lock and unlock 5 times (count the lock 5 times and unlock 5 times). 4. Shut door. 5. Open door. 6. Using the lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, slowly press lock and unlock 5 times (count the lock 5 times and unlock 5 times). 7. With the door open insert your key into the ignition, turn to on position (DON'T START), wait 5 seconds. Turn off and remove key. 8. Locks should cycle once (Car will lock and then unlock once). If they don't cycle or they cycle more than once, do steps 1-7 over. 9. Now using the remote, push lock button, hold for one second, release. The locks should cycle once. If not, start over and go slower. 10. Close the door. Open the door. Press the lock button on the remote. The locks should cycle. Close the door. Press the lock button on the remote, the doors should lock. Press again and the doors should unlock. Just to be clear, the references to the button on the drivers door mean the central locking switch NOT the manual locking toggle next to the pull handle mentioned in other instructions out there.

Good to hear. I've previously experienced excellent service from them and a Google review goes a long way!

Looks lovely. Welcome! Great thread title too

DVLA are very much blaming everything on the current situation. That said, the guy I bought my LS off was either a complete novice at selling IoM cars or didn't really care. With hindsight (his or mine, not sure) he should have had every document in his hand before advertising it but hey ho.

Nope. Definitely inside the car. Imagine holding a wooden tray and placing an object on it. Say your mobile phone. Tilt the tray from side to side and it's that noise. Had crossed my mind. Dave said he'd come across coins etc that had gone down the centre vent but I've had that to bits. And it's a heavier noise. Thinking about the headlining too, unless the back of it is solid rather than some sort of fabric then I wouldn't get the sliding noise either. Argh!

Ha! Once had that on a V70. A 10p dropped down behind the door card when the window was open. Door cards aren't quite as easy to get off on a Volvo as a Lexus! I'll check the door pockets again but there was nothing in them last time I looked. There is a metallic rattle if I tap the headlining above the middle of the rear seat but not sure if that's what's moving. Sunroof operates just fine. It did it again this morning and it sounds like something with some weight sliding on a hard surface.

Something else to keep in mind. This is a similar situation to the one I had with my LS. It was brought over from the Isle of Man in July and while initially it may have been taxed/registered/insured over there (like your Polish situation) the moment you apply to register it here you have to get it MOT'd but can't drive it on UK roads until you receive the V5C from the DVLA. Without the V5C you can't tax it or insure it. I finally received my V5C last week. That's 10 weeks!

Hi Den. Where in the world are you? In the UK I'm pretty sure we didn't get the RX350 as late as that. Horrendously expensive to tax over here post 06. I can also say that in the last 3 or 4 years that I've been browsing Lexus forums I've never come across a 400h that has needed replacement batteries due to fault. Not saying it doesn't happen but extremely unlikely.

Would anyone know how to drop the headlining a little bit as it buts up to the rear window? Absolute last resort but I'm chasing something loose that is sliding about somewhere inside the car and this is just about the last place to look. Checked under the seats, boot floor, under the rear seat base, under the parcel shelf as much as I can see. It slides back when I accelerate and slides forward when I brake. Any ideas what it could be and how I might tackle the headlining if it comes to that?

Different car but I did just that for my GS300. In fact I did it on my Volvo V70 too. It's easy enough because you barely have to lift the car if at all. With the correct bar and socket you can reach the gearbox sump just lying by the car. I think on the GS I did it about 5 times, can't remember exactly but I got through 2 or 3 5ltrs of fluid and roughly 2 litres came out each time. There are some tables floating about that calculate how much old fluid is left after each time 2 litres is removed. I'll have a scout round. Tip: buy another sump plug. Removing mine that many times it did start to mis-thread.
