Would anyone happen to know if the IS is one of those cars that has the boot mounted autochanger wiring already in place or whether it's a complete PITA to fit? I know it's a long time ago but...

The car needed a clean and I've been wanting to try the Meguiars Wash And Wax Anywhere waterless cleaning stuff. Really, really impressed and also handy to use inside when it's raining. As happened half way through So all the exterior cleaned including wheels and not a drop of water used. Smells nice too. Then the interior got a vac. Then I drove home and it's loppy again.

Totally sympathise with the driver of the white car. Discovery's are such ickle tiny things, barely noticeable.

As a recent owner I had no idea about "Lexus Chap". Threads like this are handy. When I ran BMWs the UK forum had a sticky about a dealer somewhere or other that was notorious for cheap dodgy cars. The thread ran to pages and pages and through liberal use of keywords and regular updating it was always top of the page if anyone Googled the dealer's name. Very good

Hi Normski, It happens unfortunately. It did for me with a '13 F30 BMW 330d M Sport. Lovely car, all the bells and whistles, hugely expensive, went like the clappers, looked absolutely fantastic, could absolutely take it or leave it. So it went back and it cost me a fortune. The other side of this is that some cars you don't expect anything from totally take you by surprise. I bought an '03 Volvo V70 2.4 Waft-o-Matic that the guy selling described as "a good 10 yard car" and loved it so much I bought another one. Absolutely battered, well over 100k miles and just drove it at every opportunity. Just one of those things.

Not vain and I know what you mean. There was nothing wrong with the 52 plate on my IS but now one of our own plates is on I think it looks much better.

I'd love to see those! Funny you should mention the drop in filters but the air filter in my IS300 sits vertically (you probably know this) and after getting hot a few times oil off the filter did pool in the bottom of the box. Due to the position it would have never made it to the MAF and after wiping up it never came back but worth mentioning.

It's an internet forum thing. If anyone ever mentions oiled filters then someone else has to say they're bad for your MAF. It's the law.

You should definitely check out Tapeheads! Seen it, done it. Listened to the latest Partridge book (apt I know) that I'd <ahem> acquired from some site or other and the chapters were all over the place. He made even less sense than he normally does. SA90s no less. I remember them well.

Agreed. I'm no saint and there have been times when I've shouted and gestured then felt deeply ashamed of my behaviour. Yes there are idiots out there but there are also visitors in unfamiliar surroundings, people who just don't drive much and inexperienced road users like we all were at some point either on foot, on a bike or in a car. If you don't mind me popping over from the first gen IS section you'll see that I'm keen on cassettes too. And I fully intend to get it fixed! CDs aren't a problem and I do intend to get a GROM BT unit sorted but the cassette does irritate. I will get it fixed.

Reminds me of when I used to live at home with my parents. It used to be like that opening scene from Butterflies (one for the older members) where all the cars had to be maneuvered backwards and forwards to get in and out of the drive. Anyway, I think there were four or five cars and someone pointed out to my dad how extravagant this was "We don't drive them all at once" was his reply.

I remember when we had the terrible floods in Sheffield back in 2007. We ended up doing a load of restoration work for a local business who's owner spent long periods abroad but stored his rather nice Jaguar XJ in the yard. They were in Attercliffe and the floods covered the roof of the car but as he hardly drove it his insurance was (I think) third party only. Every morning he'd open all the doors to dry it and try the ignition in the forlorn hope of it ever working again. We were on site about 2 weeks and I don't think he had so much as an interior light come on the entire time.

LPG aside, I often think a little more should be made of the fact that some of us are keeping well maintained older vehicles running. I don't keep my '02 IS300 going for the good of the planet (sadly eco credentials aren't too high on my priority list when I look at motors) but I think many are a little blinkered about the impact producing a new vehicle has. It's all very well saying that the brand new hybrid whatever only emits unicorn farts and sips fuel but look at what's been produced to make that vehicle. The steel, the plastics, the precious metals mined by some poor sod in some far away hell hole. You can't tell me that I'm doing more damage to the planet running a thirsty 15 year old car than ordering a new economical one every three years. There you go. That's my rant-lite for this morning Your children can thank me later.

It's not just whether you're taken seriously, in my experience some car dealers (so far not Lexus) just can't be arsed. Depends on which way the wind is blowing. Try Lexus Sheffield and explain the issue with Bradford. They can only say no.
