  1. Good luck - hope it does the trick.
  2. Although not on a Lexus, I had a problem with electric windows going up and down on a previous car. To cure it, I thoroughly cleaned the glass and all the rubbers the glass came into contact with and then added some lubrication to the side channels the glass slides in. After this the window went up and down like new. It was all down to a build up of crud over the years.
  3. I had my front wheel bearings changed at 80k miles on my IS 300h. Noticed a humming noise on the front nearside. I could make this better or worse by loading and unloading the wheel by steering left or right sharply. I took a Lexus tech out in the car to demonstrate and he agreed and stripped it down and it was the wheel bearing. They also then checked the other side and said that was also starting to go and so changed that one too. Both were done under the extended warranty I had with Lexus.
  4. I used to be with GEM with a previous car but they didn't cover trailers and as I needed to tow a sailing dinghy had to change at the time. May have changed.kw but if you tow anything double check T&Cs
  5. My IS 300h is coming up for 9 years old in September and has currently covered 134k miles. I've taken mine to Lexus for the 5 MoTs to date and not had so much as an advisory yet. Some MoTs coincided with a service but others didn't (as do about 15k miles per annum) and so just did the obvious checks beforehand in those cases.
  6. Is it the fan in the engine bay? It will cycle on and off as needed if running the air con when stationary or moving slowly.
  7. Don't forget that Lexus cover two people (Lexus owner and partner) driving any car (doesn't have to be a Lexus) and so if you have a partner who has a car covers them as well. If you are single then unless you drive in Europe others will probably be cheaper.
  8. If you rely on the Relax warranty granted with each Lexus service until the vehicle is 10 years old or 100k miles then that does not include the Lexus Roadside Assistance. However, if you have over 100k miles (or over 10 years old) on the car you can purchase what Lexus call 10 Year Plus Extended Warranty that covers the car for up to 15 years / 150k miles (whichever comes first) and this DOES include Lexus Roadside Assistance. This costs around £500 per annum. Some dealers are not particularly clued up on the 10 Year Plus Extended Warranty but it does exist - you may need to get Lexus customer service to talk to your dealer if they do to know about it.
  9. And you can usually get supermarket E5 cheaper than branded E10 - so the question then is which is better for the car -Supermarket E5 or branded E10? I know for sure (as I have tested it) that the supermarket E5 will give me better mpg than branded E10.
  10. If that's so then it sounds like it is due the full 10th service. There must have been a point that the mileage/age got out of sync - perhaps the car did a lot of miles per annum for part of it's life (more than one service every 12 months) and then not many miles per annum for another part (so serviced at 12 months regardless of mileage) or it had a service out of schedule with any mileage/age, perhaps when it was sold on. So long as the interim and full services have been completed one after the other (so that should be 5 interim and 4 full stamped in the book) through it's life (no more than 10K miles / 12 months apart whichever happened to come first) then sounds like all is in order.
  11. What did they stamp in the service book as this alternates between interim and full services. Also if you have your last invoice what did that say (it will list what they used on the service too). Seems a bit odd. I do about 15,000 miles a year (2014 reg now with 134K miles) and have simply alternated between the interim and full services every 10K miles (as the years are largely irrelevant for me).
  12. Supermarket fuel is OK - used it for many years and run cars to 100sk miles on it without problems. If you have a Costco near you worth the membership as their E5 as cheap as E10 in most places and car runs well on it.
  13. Ah yes ok - if something has been damaged in an accident then yes that part wouldn't be covered under warranty. But unrelated damage wouldn't mean warranty is invalid on another part. But yes that's why even for a small accident (especially if not at fault) worth getting the car checked properly.
  14. The warranty is for 15 years unlimited mileage - but that's an interesting comment that has never come up before - what documentation / T&Cs does that come from? Are you referring to ANY accident damaged cars or insurance write-off category cars?
  15. Yes I find running quotes about 3 weeks before renewal gives the cheapest premiums - as you said nearer the date the insurance is wanted the premiums rise but like you this time sometimes you have no choice. BTW both mine and my wife's car are insured with Tesco Insurance this year as they were the cheapest for both of us (and Tesco is aon confused.com comparison site though don't know about other ones). Like you also said playing with excesses has some interesting results and not always what you'd expect. Also planned mileage as well - there's an inflexion point where as annual mileage comes down the premium gets cheaper and then at a point the premium starts to go back up again as planned mileage reduces further. I have found this inflexion point to be around 8,000 miles per annum in my experiments. How one might use that information of course depends on each person's personal situation.
  16. If you run quotes on comparison sites you'll always get some ludicrous premiums popping up - just means they don't want the business and wouldn't worry about those - just look at the handful of cheapest ones and make a decision on those.
  17. I think Linas is largely right - I have the original brochure from the launch era of the IS 300h (I've attached it to this message) - assuming the Luxury spec is same as it was in UK (though no guarantee of that) then you can see what it should have as standard - it was one step up from the base SE. The interior is classed as "Fabric upholstery with Tahara side bolsters" (which can be seen in the photos) - Tahara is synthetic leather though so it does not have leather upholstery (but the trimmings like steering wheel will be leather). Also no satnav (though that looks like that won't bother you) and the basic audio (6 speakers - which IMHO isn't actually that bad for general listening - my car has this - and we used to have a Fiesta to compare it to...😅) Anyway, just as a point of reference my 2014 IS 300h has now done 134K miles (I bought it used in 2016 with 40K miles on it) and it still drives like new. Only major repair has been new front wheel bearings (at 80k miles) and I had the front discs/pads changed at the same time. Other than that just servicing according to schedule and tyres (which on mine last 40k miles at the front and 20k miles at the rear). The hybrid battery is guaranteed for 15 years and unlimited mileage in the UK so long as a hybrid health check in undertaken by Lexus every 12 months / 10k miles - but not sure if you would have the same in Mallorca. Overall, if the car has been well looked after (serviced etc.) to date and all is well now, looked after then it should do many more miles. 1368722193Lexus_IS_Long_EN.pdf
  18. Always a relief when it turns out to be a simple job.
  19. OK - that's a shame if you've done more than the 10K miles as it sounds like it should be something covered by Relax. Hope you get to the bottom of the problem and it can be fixed without too much cost.
  20. Assuming it's been servuced by a Lexus main dealer within the last 12 months / 10k miles (whichever is sooner) then it's under the Relax extended warranty still and so best to take it to Lexus to investigate.
  21. Yes - haven't seen any older IS 300h targeted for thefts but insurers are probably lumping together all Lexus models as at more risk - good excuse to squeeze more money out of us whether or not we are really at higher risk... Only advice I have is to use the comparison sites. I've tried a few over the years and they seem much the same. I now use just one as all our details are in there so it's quick to run comparisons for little effort. I didn't investigate insurance companies not on the comparison sites because in the past when I've done that I haven't found them as being any more competitive and the time taken to fill out all the details one by one on their websites takes way too much time...
  22. What percentage was that? Mine went up 37% when it renewed in April (absolutely no changes from the previous year) and despite checking the comparison sites I couldn't get it any cheaper. I strongly suspect the relatively high number of thefts of Lexus vehicles of late are fueling these large increases.
  23. Yes, I'm keeping my current 2014 IS 300h going now as long as it's economically viable - it's done 133k miles so hopefully a few more miles left in it yet. Bought it for cash for a really good price when it was 2 years old and 40k miles and if I can get eg another 100k miles out of it reliably over the next few years then compared to buying anything new or even used (at today's prices) it will be comfortable and very cost effective motoring.
  24. To be fair the prices of all new cars have ballooned since manufacturers released BEVs at such inflated prices - manufacturers seem to have used the BEV pricing as an excuse to push up the non BEV prices, along with the long delivery times, rationalising (dropping cheaper models) of product ranges which all in turn has also pushed up used car prices to silly levels too. Motoring is no more for the masses - the existing car manufacturers just seem to want to sell high price, high margin cars. Whether the influx of Chinese brands will reset things we will have to wait and see...
