  1. A little bit more torque would be welcome. Doubt they'll touch the engine though
  2. I agree that we need to start getting diesel cars off the roads. My daily commute involves either a drive into central Birmingham or a train ride and 1.3km walk from station to office. I can smell and taste the diesel fumes from stationary and moving cars. I bet I've inhaled an awful lot of NOX too and that's not funny
  3. Hope you get it soon. Sounds like it's been registered before end of March though?
  4. So. Last few tankfuls have all been 39mpg so I'll stop looking at this so much now. Seems that my driving in my car on the roads I regularly use will give this figure. I'll still keep the journey mpg figure on the small display but I'll replace the mpg sinc reset with another setting. No point in me checking it on a regular basis although I'll bring it up once in a while out of interest. Pretty happy with 39 and accept that it's a long way off the manufacturer's claimed figures due to the completely unrepresentative way in which the official tests are conducted. The only cars I've had that could regularly meet and exceed the claimed figures were big large engined cars where performance was effortless. A BMW X5 4.4i V8, BMW 525i, Jaguar XF 5.0 V8 and Jaguar XF 3.0d S I've had were all capable of easily matching and exceeding the claimed figures, largely I suspect because their reason for being was more performance based than economy based so the figures were more honest to start with. So many economy based cars require a thrashing to make decent progress with a disastrous effect on economy. I had a 2010 Fiesta 1.6d Titanium for about three months in early 2011. Official figure was 65mpg and I never ever saw better than 40-42 over a tankful no matter how gently I drove. The XF 5.0 was remarkable. I regularly achieved 31-32mpg driven gently on a long run and gently in a 5 litre V8 was not the same as gently in other cars. Interestingly, a 3rg generation IS250 I had was barely any more economical than this XF. As I recall, there was quite a difference in performance though
  5. The NX does have huge door mirrors and I suspect this has something to do with it. Also quite an upright car with a big frontal area. Also very subjective and you can't really compare different cars because too many variables. Wind direction and windspeed will have a big effect too. I think my NX has slightly more apparent wind noise than a previous IS and a Jaguar XF but my NX is exceptionally quiet and this probably makes the wind noise sound worse. All subjective though and hard to quantify
  6. Look forward to seeing full pics. Will probably be my next car on account of enjoying my current NX so much. A perfect fit for me and I can't see beyond another one when I change
  7. Unless a delivery date is written into the 'contract' you can't just cancel or demand compensation because delivery has slipped. Manufacturers are hot on this now and they never commit to a delivery date and t&c's will confirm this. Sales people however will say whatever they think they need to say to secure a deal.... The new VED rates for new cars registered after April 1st are scandalous and yet as a nation of people we seem completely unable to stop this sort of thing. The AA and RAC organisations are hopeless at representing motorists and no-one stands up for the motorist. There are some shocking statistics in terms of the total tax take from motorists and other users of the road network (exc cyclists!) compared to the money that goes back into the road network. Obviously the total tax take from VED has gone down as we have bought cars with lower emissions so the government now has to increase the rates to compensate. Pretty soon there will be heavy rises in taxation of diesel cars too, all because of environmental concerns.... Yeah right. We get taxed to death and motoring just gets more and more expensive, for many it's too expensive. I have to help my mother out with running her car and she has a private and state pension and yet has trouble finding the money to run her car, something that is essential to her independence, mobility and well being. Not good enough really I found the part cloth seats in my previous IS200t Sport to be pretty horrible. They looked worse after 6 months of my use than the leather I've had in other IS vehicles I've owned. They just looked a bit dirty and less new. They seemed to breathe less than leather and I just didn't enjoy them
  8. I'm surprised people rate Dunlop tyres. Had bad experiences with these on many different cars. They are also lethal in conditions when it isn't fully wet but not dry. I've also experienced splitting sidewalls on a Jaguar XF and all 4 tyres being replaced foc by Jaguar/Dunlop and then the new replacements not wearing evenly and causing quite a bit of droning/vibration on smooth roads. Never had the same issues with Michelins, Pirellis, Bridgestones and Goodyears. A 2002 BMW 325i I owned was scary on Dunlops and then completely transformed when I had four MPS fitted. I check tyre pressures on a weekly basis, when tyres are cold (ie normal ambient and car hasn't been driven for a long time), and I have tracking checked on a regular basis if it feels out (less grip on initial turn in, steering wheel offset, won't tack in a straight line, etc). Dunlops are still crap imho though
  9. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and one person's naff colour and spec is another person's must have
  10. Glad you fixed it. A case of RTFM though! 😀
  11. I always have the 'ignore traffic when routing' set to off. Always done this in every car I've had with satnav to avoid being routed off motorways with 50mph contra flows and onto parallel A roads with 60mph limits, for example. If you think Lexus nav is bad, go try a previous model Jaguar XF. In traffic jams that didn't exist their nav would route me off the M5 and onto the A38. I still get re-routing advice but it is set to manual so I get to choose whether I accept a new route due to traffic and I can see where the holdup is. I also make sure I have the average speeds set to sensible values. Whilst it is easy to, for example, maintain a 70mph average on motorways in normal traffic, it is not possible to maintain a 60mph average on single track A roads in normal traffic. Same goes for 30mph limited roads. The satnav is a computer fed by traffic information (TMC) that is not always accurate and up to date. Average speed settings are also key inputs into the complex calculations required for routing. Always best to stop it doing silly things with traffic 'events' and to have sensible average speed settings and not ones based on a 10pm schlep down your favourite A road when you averaged 65mph or whatever
  12. Glad you're enjoying the car. The brown bins are green too
  13. As others have suggested, possibly best not to sit in the seats if they keep getting ripples in them. I can imagine what might be going through a service advisor's mind as I explain how my leather seats keep getting ripples in them every time someone sits on them
  14. You're carrying around a few less options I guess
  15. One of the problems with forums like this is that it's possible to convince yourself that you've got every forum niggle going. As I said, drive a few to see if yours is any worse or on a par with others. So subjective and so many different variables I would think
  16. Possibly worth driving a few others to check if yours is any worse than the norm.
  17. 150 miles to Weymouth today. 15 miles of A roads + 85 miles of M5 and then 50 miles of A roads and occasional dual track. 41.5 mpg. Never exceeded an indicated 80 on motorway and mostly 75. By the time I peeled off the motorway it was showing 39.5 for the trip but it crept up to 41.5 by the end. I'm quite enjoying the challenge of making good progress with good economy. Amazing how much the odd full throttle blast up a long hill increases the consumption and how long it takes to get it back
  18. I'd go into the dealership and ask to speak to the technicians. I'd sit them down in a quiet corner of the dealership and show them my video. Afterwards I'd ask them what they thought. Then I'd make it clear that I knew what a Lexus hybrid was and I loved the car and they were lucky I wasn't planning to put the video on YouTube and naming and shaming the dealership. I wouldn't take it any further than that
  19. I've had a 2nd and 3rd generation IS250. In my opinion the 2nd gen engine wins hands down and feels faster than the 3rd gen engine. It sounds more cultured and refined too. I found the 3rd gen engine to be all sound and no go. The figures are about the same but I found the later car to be a bit of a disappointment. They've gone for a soundtrack to make it a little like the LFA and although it is a raw sound it just feels like it won't pull the skin off a rice pudding. I hated it and it was such a disappointment because I was expecting better
  20. Lovely peachy engine in the 2nd generation IS250. Much nicer than the one in the 3rd generation IS250 imo
  21. Get some black hard foam material and cut it into chunks and push it down between windscreen and dash as far as it will go. Experiment first by having someone drive the car and when it's making the noise stick your fingers into the same gap to work out where you need to stick the foam. Experiment with different sizes to get it right so you can't see them once pushed in. You don't need that much material but it has to be sat above the hooks that the dash sits on. Make sure you have some tweezers to pull them back out whilst working on the size and placement of them. I used fairly dense rigid foam with some give in it and I guess it was about 12mm thick. I had to experiment with different types beforehand before I found the right stuff. Worked a treat in the end
  22. What spec are the bins? Alloys? metallic or solid paintwork? Powered lid? I went for standard bins in the end, didn't think it was worth paying for extras
  23. Looking good! I'm also looking forward to seeing everything on the car
