  1. Likes Styling ML hifi Not as many on the road as 3 series, A4 and C Class Dislikes Harsh ride (my age...) Steering too heavy and doesn't telegraph what the front tyres are doing Needs a hybrid performance variant in the range, the 300h doesn't cut it for me. An IS450h would indeed be lovely.
  2. Nice Chris. Hope you enjoy the car. I'm sure you'll get used to the size because generally cars shrink a little with familiarity
  3. In your example I would think the aircon would be on all the time keeping the temperature down in the car. It's when outside temperatures are cooler, say in the range 12 to 20, that I find the car doesn't maintain a constant cabin temp. I've put this down to the car deciding that the compressor doesn't need to be run at all times in Auto even when the SC button is on. My car is much better now that I've switched Auto AC and Efficient Ventilation off. I think these settings stop the car from intelligently switching off the AC or running the fan at a lower speed. I want climate control to control the climate in my car as best as it can, I don't want climate control to save 0.5mpg or whatever it does save.
  4. Normal being the opposite of what some people get up to on here in order to eke out every last mile per gallon
  5. Me and my car are still married after going through a rocky patch. I'm now calling it my marmite car. I love a lot of aspects of the car but still hate some. On balance will keep it for a while longer and try to persevere with it. My recent mileage has been a lot of urban driving or pootling around the Cotswolds and the car comes into its own. Hell, I've even been considering running it as a company car which means it would be here for 3 years. Watch this space!
  6. Agreed Alec. I like the hold facility and then when I come to the end of my journey and need to park I dislike it because the car is a bit jerky and won't creep forward slowly which is often what you want when parking.
  7. If it was a second car, the Mini. If it was my only car and my daily drive over a lengthy period, the Lexus. I have a real soft spot for the classic Minis
  8. It's not just the price of the servicing, it's also the frequency. I'd be happy with one service per year but two services per year really cranks up the overall servicing costs
  9. Neither would I. The guy at Autocar calls it this
  10. I bet it is the case more often than not though. I do 20k miles a year and depend upon my car for work. I wouldn't like to put 60k miles on an older car that already has quite a few miles on it. I've done it in the past and it's always cost me money on repairs and missed meetings.
  11. Hadn't realised this. Thought I was always doing a favour for the person behind by using the hold function. Guess not then. Will check to be sure. Given the explanation above re keeping the braking system pressurised, this would tend to suggest the brake lights will stay on assuming a pressure switch is used rather than a pedal position switch?
  12. I know people who are fanatical about driving slowly and accelerating slowly to save fuel. The same people have 3 or 4 takeaways and eat out on a regular basis each month too. I'd much rather cut down on the takeaways and drive normally to be honest.
  13. Agree with everything you've said. A quick road test is nothing like living with a car for a while. Having had one myself I cannot understand why people claim it's slow and that an IS250 is just as quick. It just ain't. Nowhere near. If you want a small engaging sports saloon or coupe that has a decent turn of speed and you want to stick with Lexus you're now screwed. Lexus will claim they've barely sold any but that's as much to do with them marketing themselves as everything hybrid and nothing sporty and engaging to drive. I'm considering changing to an NX200t because the (lack of) accessible performance from a 300h Lexus drives me nuts enough times to make the car unenjoyable.
  14. Oops. Tim. Of course. Cheers
  15. So do I. Just different people with different perceptions and different levels of what is acceptable or not I would think.
  16. Lovely car Lee!
  17. Well, Volvo raced estates in the BTCC so this is fine in my book. Lovely looking motor that John. From the days when Merc build quality was sky high too
  18. I once had my XF 3.0DS Premium Luxury in for a service and I walked out having bought a 5 litre V8 XF. I knew after 500 yards of driving it that I was going to buy it. So did the sales manager in the showroom when he was urging me to take it out, I suspect. I've always had a pretty good idea of what I'd buy next but this was the first time I ever bought another car when I had absolutely no plans to. Not quite what you were asking I know but thought I'd mention it.
  19. Looks great Ken. New set of wheels makes such a difference, always.
  20. And independent Lexus specialists are few and far between too
  21. If using an independent, it's best to know them well. See how they treat cars and check whether they have the right diagnostic equipment and use genuine parts. If all ok, using an independent is fine. Had a number of BMWs serviced by a recognised BMW independent and I felt he was an enthusiast who knew his cars and was always fair and did a good job. Thing about a Lexus hybrid is that the garage doing the work should be certified to work on Lexus hybrids because of the high voltages involved and specialist procedures when working on them. Horses for courses though. No point buying an £8k Lexus and then spending upwards of £600 per year to service it (assuming the 20k miles per year that I do) but there is merit in buying a £30k Lexus and then spending this amount on servicing to maximise re-sale value and ensure no warranty issues.
  22. Perhaps one of the panels that is removed for a servicing check has not been properly secured? I'd be lifting the bonnet and asking someone to start the car so I could pinpoint where the noise is coming from. I'd also be asking the dealership to take it back in pronto. Hope the OP gets this sorted
