IS 300h stolen using Keyless Entry
paulrnx replied to Swoxy's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I've got into the habit of disabling the keyfob transmitting signal when I lock the car outside the house at night. It's a habit now and no problem. Certainly less hassle than putting the keys into a pouch/tin/cage/etc when I get into the house. When I get back in in the morning I just have to unlock the doors from the keyfob and then the comfort access works ok all day until I turn the keyfob off again at night. -

Advice now being provided now is to inform your insurance company. Or at least it was when I did one last year. There is no legal requirement to but a lot of insurance companies have statements in their smallprint along the lines of customers must inform their insurance company if any of the details or circumstances change which is a bit of a catch-all for things like this. Always best to check in my opinion. Must admit I hadn't heard that records were expunged though. I wondered about this because how would the authorities know that you had previously attended a speed awareness course in the past three years? I'm sure they don't take us on trust! -
My rears have done 34k now and although still a fair bit of tread left I think I'm going to replace them. Have new Goodyears on the front and OE Yokohamas on the rear and I want to experience the same quiet, planted and compliant feeling I have at the front on the rears. This will also get rid of a slight shimmy I have through the floor of the car as a result of slightly uneven wear on the rears (they have signs of 'stepping'. I'd also prefer the same tyre on all four corners.

Direct Line also worth a look. They do multicar too. I even stayed with them at renewal time because their renewal quotes were competitive which is often not the case when staying with the same insurer for another year. -
Thought that was the case. I imagine that manufacturers and dealerships also love service plans because a lot of cars end up being traded in before the end of the service plans so they end up taking money up front with no future costs to bear. Most cars are traded in and not sold privately when a service plan could be transferred to the new owner.

I also know for a fact that my IS200t was quicker faster than an M3 because I regularly raced one which a friend had. He got rid of his and got an IS like I had. -
Why not Cheltenham? If you're 26 miles away from Coventry and 36 from Swindon you must be closer to Cheltenham surely? I've always had great service from there myself. As servicing is both mileage and time-based, you could still 'forget' to get the car serviced if, for example, you had done more than 10,000 miles within 12 months since last service. The dealership wouldn't know what mileage you had done and they would only remind you at the 12 months point. The car reminds you it needs a service anyway and the warnings get ever stronger the closer you get to the point when it's due. Advantage here is that the car is tracking mileage as well as time. I'm not a big fan of service plans because who knows whether I'd actually keep my car for the duration of the service plan. I'd much rather put some money aside each month in readiness for the next service to be honest. Not sure of the savings though, they can't be that great can they?

Had mine checked out a few times and all is ok or appears to be ok. The problem comes and goes and is only there when cold and not all the time when engine cold and ambient cold. Doubt it's going to cause a problem because it only does it occasionally and only for a very short period of time. I'll live with and I'm sure it'll be fine. Not sure how we got on to missing 6 year plug changes and 10 year cam belt changes mind?

I'd rather not take the chance. Interesting argument but it might take a lot of effort and time and even money if you had to resort to legals. Not worth it in my opinion but guess you would think so and nothing wrong with that, we're all different.

By the dealership. Of course I can do it but it would invalidate the warranty. Obviously

Yes I used to regularly and no it wasn't, not ever -
I'm picky too, agreed. Possible not quite as much as you though! I do try to stretch into the 1k / 1 month window a little. If I was running one outside of a warranty I would likely do mine every 12,500 miles at least. That's what they allow for 'fleet' cars and there are no additional checks or increase in quality of fluids, etc for these cars. As I run my car for business, I asked if I could move to 12.5k mile intervals and I was told no. Seems like it is only for fleet lease companies. Thing is if it's ok for fleet users, why not allow private buyers the same intervals? I've said it before, 10k mile intervals is too short. If I was doing 10k miles a year then I'd be happy to service it once every 12 (13 ) months. Much less happy having to service it twice a year.

What was the worst and best car you ever owned?
paulrnx replied to dutchie01's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
A mate of mine works in the industry and he said that BMW spent more on a mid-life 3 Series interior upgrade than LR spent in total developing that version of the Range Rover. In those days LR customers did a lot of the product development on behalf of the manufacturer. -
Good for you. I'm never sure it helps smearing manufacturers and dealerships on social media. Glad you got it fixed. My fingers are crossed too!

Heating in automatic mode
paulrnx replied to GALex's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
I agree. Manufacturers spend a lot of money perfecting their heating and ventilation systems and I'd rather leave mine in auto too. The one thing I do is switch off the efficient ventilation mode in the menu because I find I have to keep changing the temperature too often. I think it's to do with the fact that it warms up or cools down slower by not using so much fan speed in order to save fuel. -

paulrnx replied to darrude's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Never really got better than 37 from my IS200T and most of the time I recall it being about 32-34 over a tankful. In my IS300h I generally always got 42-44 over a tankful. There were some extremes outside of these figures but I'd reckon on a 10mpg difference in favour of the hybrid. I thought the 200T was way more fun to drive mind and certainly enough to make up for the difference in economy. For me anyway -
If the car is outside of warranty then I think it's ok to stretch the service intervals a little. Might decrease the value slightly when you come to sell it I suppose. I get mine services in accordance with the manufacturer's intervals but I doubt a couple of months here and there is going to matter much with such low mileage. Lexus service intervals are poor in my opinion. I understand the counter argument to that is reliability etc but every 10k miles or 12 months on mine means two services per year which adds a fair bit to the running costs. If OP is keeping the car for a long time and with no warranty, I'd stretch the intervals a little myself.

Welcome and good luck with your purchase. Sounds like a nice car. I like the GS. Different kind of car to a Honda. Had a 2005 Accord 2.4 Executive back in 2005, a very nice car and a peach of an engine. Never tired of the VTEC kicking in and the noise it made. Let us know all about your new car once you get it.

Stuck the edges of my rear number plate down with the sticky pads last weekend. Works a treat, had been planning to do it since I bought it 12 months ago. Kept putting it off thinking I'd put my private plate back on, then selling. Decided to just do it. I think the Yokohama OE tyres are noisy. Mine is definitely quieter with two new Goodyears on the front. Much better small bump absorption too.
