  2. Petrol, 240 BHP. 2 1/2 years. A 15 plate and about 8 months newer than my NX. It's brought a smile to my face every time I've driven it and I've even been out for a drive just for the pleasure of driving it rather than actually needing to go somewhere. I'll post up a review at some point. I'll likely do a comparison against an IS200t I owned a while ago because both are compact sports saloons with 2 litre turbo-charged petrol engines developing the same power. No sense in comparing to my NX because they are just completely different cars.

  4. Just different opinions by two different people really. No right or wrong. In fact we're both right based on our own experiences which of course are different hence why we have the different opinions. Age probably comes into it too.
  5. This is how the current tax system works already. The more you earn the more tax you pay. If you earn over £45,500 you pay 40% tax on everything over that £45k (actually 41% because of the additional 1% NI). Over £150,000 a year and you pay a higher rate of tax still.
  6. Yep. Or perhaps a design defect that only happens under a certain set of circumstances? I had a Renault 19 16V company car many years ago and Renault had to re-design the upper mounts for the front struts. Some cars suffered from it others didn't. Not great for a Lexus though and I'd be concerned the noise would come back, Hopefully it won't though
  7. Back in 2013 we had a family holiday to France. Two cars, 8 people in total. We left my house to get down to a Ferry crossing into France and got 1 1/2 miles up the road and my brother-in-law had a puncture. Luckily he had a spare which we fitted and then got to a garage and he got two new tyres fitted because the punctured tyre was not repairable. Delayed us by about an hour in total and we still made the ferry in time albeit we had to give dinner beforehand a swerve. Had he just had gunk and a compressor we'd have probably missed the ferry no question because the gunk wouldn't have sealed the tyre and it happened at 5pm so we'd be waiting for a call-out. I've had two punctures on the way to a work appointment both of which were with 100 miles to go. Had a third on the way home late at night. All with spare tyres fortunately. You've been lucky, I've been unlucky and I don't like having a car without a spare tyre because of my experiences.

  10. Probably my last day's posting on this forum too. Until I buy another Lexus I suppose. Might use some retirement cash to house an ISF inside my garage to use for summer blasts!   11. I know I know. And what about the massive loss of tax revenue because no-one is buying petrol and diesel any more. Electricity would be taxed to the point where the loss in fuel taxes was made up by taxes on electricity. It's just headline sensationalist policies and not very well thought out. I doubt there is enough spare capacity in the current grid to support a move to electric cars and the lead-times for new power stations are immense, especially for nuclear powered stations. Could cover the country in windfarms I suppose...
  12. Ouch! Worth it though, only thing that keeps a car on the road in extreme situations is the tyres. The one area I try and steer clear of is recycling centres. You see so many nails and screws and other sharp things on the ground around the bins that I always think they are a breeding ground for punctures. I just get the missus to take everything in her car....

  14. I wonder how many NX have been stolen? Doubt it's that many. Peace of mind I suppose but I'm not entirely sure it's worth it. Guess there might be an insurance premium discount for a fitted tracker mind? Only time I got close to having to have a tracker installed was when I had a 2003 BMW X5 4.4i V8. Most companies were mandating it but I found a few that weren't at the time.
  15. There may even be a ban on the sale of all petrol and diesel engined cars much earlier than previously 'planned'. This one has a long way to go before we get real clarity about what is going to happen in the future. I'm sure I read somewhere that cars are only responsible for something like 23% of the total pollution. And yet it is cars that get it in the neck every time and owners who are forced to change or encouraged to change, often at great cost, just so that politicians and the green brigade can feel like they are making a difference. Euro 6 compliant cars are so much more efficient and less polluting than older cars so the drive should be to get people out of their very old cars and into newer cars. But with the right incentives in place to make it less prohibitively expensive for normal people to do this.
  16. Yep, 8-20 sounds about right. All my new cars have been between 7 and 15 from memory.
  17. Great writeup. Honest and objective. Doubt I'd ever tire of 0-60 in 4.2s and 3p per mile (fuel) running costs. I could put up with quite a few niggles and issues for that! Servicing is expensive though. My kids are on at me on a regular basis to get a Tesla but I think Tesla are at a crossroads as a company. They have to get better at execution - they are still failing to hit their production targets and burning cash at an incredible rate - and if they don't the company will fail. Once the major manufacturers bring their own comparable products on stream then Tesla will really be up against it because the established manufacturers know how to and will execute in numbers and that will leave Tesla in trouble because consumers will have the choice between buying from an established manufacturer or still taking a bit of a chance on a niche Tesla. I really want them to succeed because there is no doubt they have changed the status quo and made EVs much more relevant than almost any other company to date. At the end of the day though they have to deliver on their promises and they have to be able to build in large volumes, the Model 3 in particular. They are falling woefully short at the moment. Can they really become a proper car manufacturer capable of building hundreds of thousands of cars each year? They have to concentrate on working out how to build in volume rather than chasing headlines like electric trucks, battery packs for Australian cities, etc, otherwise they will remain a bit part player and possibly even disappear altogether. But boy oh boy, would I like that kind of effortless performance and I've been tempted on more than one occasion. Love the my family have banned me from using this mode bit, this made me chuckle - cheers David!!
  18. The batteries and motor(s) are there to augment the petrol engine as and when the brain decides it needs both. Not just for full EV mode. There can be a significant difference in acceleration between petrol engine + electric and just the petrol engine. In my NX I had a part of a regular journey where a unique combination of factors always led to me accelerating up a hill having joined a dual carriageway just as the batteries were just about fully depleted. Occasionally it was obvious that I was only getting 154BHP & torque out of the petrol engine alone. First time it happened I was convinced I was dragging an anchor somewhere.

  20. Was always going to be a Jaguar or a Lexus because these are the only cars I've wned since early 2011. Thought pretty carefully about another IS200t but opted for an XE on account of never owning one (had four IS up to now) and being a more involving and enjoyable drive. Close run thing though.
