I’ve been feeling for a while that service has deteriorated from Lexus dealers and that sales are more important. I understand why sales are important but I always felt that customer service was spot on however I’ve recently experienced poor service. My plan is to get my next service at Lexus and then all further ones from an independent. That said, I will also get an annual hybrid health check so will need to do the numbers given you get that free with Lexus services. Guess I could stretch the hybrid check to every 18 months or so. Have to find an independent I can trust too - think there might be one in Kiddlington over towards Oxford which isn’t too far away. What concerns me more about my local dealership - Cheltenham - is that there isn’t enough parking space and cars are being finished and then left out on the road having been bumped up the kerb onto the path to leave space in the road for passing HGVs. Trying to con people that their cars are faulty or are about to fail so that they buy a new one is poor form.

If I was still self-employed I’d be driving round in an I-Pace given the attractive BIK and ability to offset the whole purchase price in the first year. I agree that they make almost zero sense as a private buyer unless very wealthy. I know so many people who drive BMW 330e and 530e models simply to reduce their company car tax burden. Which is fair enough really. And many have never charged their cars up. Just a financial numbers thing.

I’ve been off the forum for some time. This is a funny thread. I remember how much Linda’s used to slag off the 200t. In fact he didn’t have much time for anything other than a 2nd gen IS250. I can’t take him seriously now because his judgement is clearly lacking 😂

Squirt and coast is what it’s all about. Get up to speed and then ease of the accelerator to get the needle back in the eco zone. Keep below 50 if roads and traffic allow. Very light braking over longer distances rather than heavy braking over shorter distances to put as much back into the batteries as possible.

My current NX had a missed 30k / 3 year service. I could see that it had all other services done and had evidence of other trips to the dealership for things like wheel alignment and investigations etc. It was low mileage and appeared to be in exceptional condition so it didn’t bother me. Another factor was my intention to keep it for a very long time. A 30k service is an intermediate service so it would effectively have missed an oil change and some checks. The car I bought had done a lot less than 10k miles a year - less than 20k miles over 4 1/2 years in fact. If the car had done 20k miles between it’s second and fourth service I might have been more concerned. Getting an approved used warranty also eased any concerns I had.

Agreed. I once averaged 15.9mpg over 160 miles in a 4.4 v8 BMW X5. Had a 5.0 v8 XF too which averaged 31-32 on a long motorway run. Sometimes it was below 20 mind 😀

Some interesting views in here re tyres. I’d much rather have soft grippy tyres than hard slippy tyres. I’m always happy to trade grip, comfort and higher wear rates for low grip uncomfortable tyres that last forever. Goodyears and Michelins are about the best you can buy, agreed.

Most surface rust on callipers comes from washing the car and then leaving the car a day or more before driving it again. Always a good idea to go out and do a few miles after washing the car to ensure the callipers warm up and any water is heated off and also blown away.

Agreed. Never ceases to amaze me the number of low mileage drivers who buy diesels. Mind you I know plenty of people who barely know what engine is in their cars and whether front, rear or all wheel drive. So many people buy on the basis of gadgets and trinkets or mpg

On balance I think I’ll get a replacement service book. I know I don’t need one for me but better to have one for when I sell it I think.

It’s open again now. Need to book beforehand and they may not be allowing car club gatherings. Thought I’d mention it was open though.

The only thing I’d is look at the service list for the 30k and for the 40k to work out what extra should have been done for the 30k service and ask for this work to be done to bring the car up to date in terms of replacements and checks. Possibly too late now but this is what I would have done.

Non OE windscreens are going to be an issue with all of the forward facing cameras and HUD systems now fitted to more and more cars. And insurance companies and windscreen nationals will continue to fit crappy pattern parts. It was so much better when it was only the mark 1 eyeball looking through a windscreen!

Agreed. An invoice stating £0. I'd want the £0 invoice, the checklist and the hybrid health certificate. I'd probably settle for the latter two though.

If it's a harsh whistling noise could it be a tyre that has lost its roundness? Especially if the car sits around for days on end in the same position. If it sounds more like a wind noise I'd be looking at a door seal or perhaps the sealing around the driver's door mirror? Or the wheelarch liner? Check the position of the wipers doesn't change too. Anything that sticks out into the air could cause a whislting type noise depending upon shape and position etc.Also check all of the grilles on the front bumper - are any loose or slightly misaligned. Also see if chaning the air condition to off or playing around with fan speeds and/or air direction has any effect on the sound. Can't think of anything else. You seem to be fairly sure it's coming from the driver's front wheel though. I'd also be looking for anything loose in and around the wheelarch and comparing from one side of the car to the other. This includes brake disk backing plates etc. Might also be a loose gaiter or any rubber cover too. I'd also get a second and third opinion from other dealerships/garages. Hope this helps, nothing worse than this sort of thing.

Surely the best thing about working from home more and more is not having to keep washing the car. It stays looking clean for so much longer. I love mine too. They are incredibly relaxing cars to drive and the seats are wonderful. They lack a bit of get up and go but my advancing years seem to be less bothered about this than I perhaps would have been a few years back.

I purchased an approved used NX but it has no Service Book. I asked at the time I viewed the car but was told the book had been removed (stock answer I would think because I'm sure they do remove these whilst cars are on the forecourt to prevent them being lifted). I forgot to check it at collection and only realised I didn't have one a few days after. The thing is I can see the service history on the Lexus portal and everything checks out ok as expected and as confirmed prior to sale. The car had only been serviced at the supplying dealer and they have also confirmed the history. Stll no book though. In this day and age when you can buy fake service books for not very much money (or so I'm told) is a service book really necessary? I have a copy of the portal read out and I plan to keep the car for a long time so I'm inclined to leave this as it is and not pursue a replacement service book but I'm interested to see out what others think before I make a final decision on this one?

As above, it impacted the underside of the car, the front bumper went over ok but I suspect this may have more to do with the angle that I crossed over it.

It impacted the underside of the car and I wouldn't think there was much difference between models to be honest. Mine was a Sport with 18" wheels but lower profile tyres than one with 17" wheels. An F-Sport may be even lower on account of its sports suspension. The Sport has standard suspension.
