  1. You can always keep a spare goat too should the first one stop working for any reason
  2. I’ve not bothered with a replacement service book. I have a print out of the Portal service items and my own receipts and as the car will be in my family for a long time I’ll keep it like this. I spoke to a couple of other dealers and they both said nowadays service books don’t mean that much. When I do eventually sell I’ll take a buyer through the service record on the portal.
  3. Market valuation of $80B a year ago and today $500B! Many analysts thought it was overpriced a year ago! A $500B company that can make at most $1B profit per year is an interesting concept for sure. And their market share can only go down as consumers have more choice. When the Tesla romance ends there will be an awful lot of people sat on a load of shares worth considerably less than they paid for them. It is short term gain that is driving the ridiculous share price so my advice would be if you are sat on Tesla shares, sell ‘em and sell ‘em now.
  4. There’s every chance that a Lexus dealer would have changed the motor. If it fixed the problem (because one half of the connection would then be brand new) then you’d have paid for a new motor and they’d think that was the cause. Worst case it would still have been faulty and they’d also replace the loom and because both halves of the connector would then be brand new this would fix it. Expensive given that it looks like the connection just needed a good clean. Great diagnosis and fix though, well done! Cheaper too!!
  5. Good luck with the other thing too! All the best.
  6. Check what services have been carried out. Has it missed any services or have any services been done late (after the mileage or time limit). Ask to see a print out bod what’s on the Lexus portal to see what other work has been carried out.
  7. Neglectable. I like that word! It’s now in my vocabulary 😀
  8. Just think about cars driving themselves and not allowing drivers to take control. Linas would have no choice but to keep to the speed limits! 😂😉 Joking aside I would have serious concerns about owning a Tesla. To the point where I wouldn’t buy one not ever. A Taycan or an iPace definitely but not a Tesla with panel gaps like my first ever car, a 1973 Hillman Hunter.
  9. I wonder if they’ll reverse their decision in the future?
  10. It is one of the reasons why I’m having a dashcam fitted once lockdown ends to be honest. I’m seeing more and more Teslas on the road where I live and I do wonder how many are not fully driving them.
  11. My previous Jaguar XE automatically applied the brakes in a non-dangerous situation. I was slowing down about to enter a 30mph limit and the road was bending slightly the left with a pedestrian island in the middle of the road. Despite me having both hands in the wheel and being in full control of the car and not going too fast my car applied the brakes and The dash lit like a Christmas tree. Luckily the brakes were only applied for about a second. A few days later exactly the same road and conditions and I had another warning on the dash but brakes were not applied this time. Scary and you lose confidence in the car. Can’t think what that Tesla driver is thinking with his experiences. One of the reasons I now drive a Lexus again to be honest. I think autonomous driving is a pipe dream and it will never be sufficiently safely achievable but it is something that the industry seems hell bent on pursuing. And there are early adopters driving round treating their cars like a beta release of Windows. A blue screen of death is just not the same as death. Not worth it and fairly stupid in my opinion.
  12. No doubt in my mind that Lexus has remained a niche marque in the UK partly due to the narrow choice of engines in their line-up. Agreed. It might have been different had they done so and we might not now be discussing this thread. I’ve attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed for as long as I care to remember and it was only just recently that Lexus had a stand there. It is the UK motorshow and has been for years. The Audi, Merc, Jaguar and BMW stands were always rammed full with people. I repeatedly contacted Lexus marketing to ask them why they didn’t attend it. When they finally did only fairly recently my mate - a dedicated Audi fan - said he couldn’t believe how good the cars looked on the Lexus stand and he’d have been tempted to give the NX a look instead of a Q5. How many people might have been tempted to have a Lexus with a bigger engine choice for each model and some determined marketing. Very sad really.
  13. SUVs are more comfortable for a lot of people. I’ve mostly had sports saloons in my life with quite a few hot hatchbacks in my twenties. I’ve had three SUVs now - a V8 X5 in 2007-2008, an NX300 in 2017-2018 and another NX300 for the last 4 months. I’m older now (57) and I care less about handling and roadholding and much more about comfort and retirement. I have no ailments or mobility issues but my days of getting down into a low slung sports saloon are gone now. With the ever increasing move to larger wheels and ultra low profile tyres they just feel uncomfortable to me and round where I live the roads make them horrible to drive. I occasionally still drive my wife’s Mini Cooper for a bit of fun but an SUV better fits my life in lots of ways.
  14. I’ve spoken to two dealerships recently and they both said well over 70% of their sales were SUVs. One said if they could get hold of more SUVs they’d sell even more. If you want to stick to a compact sports saloon or coupe then it would appear that you have to jump ship to another marque. In the UK at least.
  15. Lexus pulling these cars out of the UK probably has more to do with a very large proportion of their sales being SUVs. I happen to think they might do better if they had a much wider engine choice for each model. I think more BMW, Merc and Audi drivers would consider a Lexus if they did this.
  16. Looks like a DIY repair might be difficult due to its position. I’d be tempted to take the armrest off to see what I could do though. A replacement door card for £70 sounds a decent result too. I think a trim specialist would look to fit new trim, I can’t see how it could be repaired.
  17. Realise this is an old post but I’ve only just come across it. So much of what is in this video is why I buy into the brand and why I love my NX as an everyday ownership proposition.
  18. Something in the suspension or steering has worn or broken then I would think. Might even be a broken front suspension spring so I’d get it checked out if I was you. Good luck!
