  1. Shocking thread this. Hope you get a good resolution 👍
  2. Good for you Chris. I think you’ll enjoy the car very much and I’m sure that on the right tyres it will be fine for what you’ve explained. Good luck with your purchase and it would be good to hear back at some point when you’ve had chance to use it in these conditions. Thanks! 😀
  3. Not good this. Hope you get some form of goodwill gesture from Lexus. Good luck!
  4. 😀 To be fair, I don’t think the OP was asking if anyone used their NX in those conditions. He was asking what they’re like in the snow though.
  5. Given the recent weather there must be some NX owners on the forum with experience of their cars in snow. It would be interesting to hear their experiences and know what tyres they are on etc. I had an NX back in 2017 to 2018 and drove it every day during the snowy weather we had in the middle of December 2017. My car was on the Yokohama OE tyres. It surprised me how good it was and I could feel the all wheel drive when pulling away. I daresay an NX on decent tyres would be ok in very poor weather. Most likely not as good as a JLR product with similar tyres but it seemed fine for me. Haven’t had chance to drive my current NX in snow yet.
  6. I ran three powerful and high torque RWD saloons on winter tyres every winter from November to March. Pirelli Sottozeros. I couldn’t believe the difference in performance in all types of winter weather. In cold wet weather it was night and day difference between them and the ‘summer’ high performance tyres the cars normally ran on. All 20” tyres and very low profile and wide. The Winter tyres fitted on the same rims and the dealership charged me £25 every time to swap the tyres. £50 a year then and this included storage of the tyres not in use. If I lived in the mountains I’d run winter tyres whatever car I owned. Cross-climates could I think be a good middle ground option if not wanting to go to the trouble of having two sets of tyres and possibly wheels. I aim to find out by having these tyres fitted all round at next replacement. Up a mountain though, definitely winter tyres.
  7. I can just see this happening to me now because I’ve been too blasé about it on here 😀
  8. Mine come on immediately. Have done for both that I’ve owned. Doesn’t sound like it is by design?
  9. A decent set of winter tyres is the solution here. Or a set of Michelin cross-climates which are the only all year round tyre to meet the winter tyres performance standard. One of the TV car programmes, can’t remember which one, drove two identical SUVs up an indoor ski slope. The only difference was that one was 2WD but with winter tyres all round and the other was 4WD with standard tyres. Think it was a Ford Kuga. The 2WD version got much further up the slope than the 4WD version. That said, I’ve found both NX cars I’ve had to be good in snow and very slippery conditions. Both with standard tyres. I plan to get some cross-climates at replacement time though.
  10. What is the incidence rate of the pop-up bonnet deploying? Surely this is very low, almost zero? Possibly take more care not bumping into things too.
  11. I occasionally saw full bars on my previous 2019 IS300h
  12. I have a feeling that there is some form of requirement for all new cars to have pop up bonnets. Probably stems from the NCAP tests that all new car models go through. I don’t understand why someone would want to make this mod. It’s there for good reason. I imagine there would be a substantial liability if a pedestrian was killed or seriously injured and it was found out that the pop up bonnet had been fudged not to deploy.
  13. I won’t be buying a convertible until I retire. Have some money saved up in readiness and will add to this but I won’t buy until then. Yep, an MX5 is on the list. As is a Z4 and an SLK. I wouldn’t get a TT. Nothing wrong with them I just don’t fancy one.
  14. Messing around with this system will likely invalidate an insurance policy. Certainly in the UK at least. This modification would have to be declared to an insurance company and most would then decline to provide cover I think.
  15. Ha I remember that. My son has his own car now and my daughter has hers too so my back seat is rarely used nowadays. Can’t speak for the previous owners though 😀
  16. A good thread this one with some very useful information. As always. I can’t help thinking however that the worry of this happening is far greater than the chances of this actually happening. Sure it would be a pain and insurance would take a hit but this is why we have insurance. There would be significantly more chance of having someone drive into you out on the road than having this happen surely? And we don’t not drive our cars for fear of having an accident and damaging them. Surely the resolution here is to stop worrying about some scrote pinching the cat and just enjoy the car. Look out for those meteors though, they are really scary 😂
