  1. It’s a risk and reward thing and everyone has a different view of both of those I think. Glad to hear you are not personally profiting from all these warranties you keep pushing 😉😀
  2. I can’t help thinking that an NX is a higher quality product than a UX. No real evidence to back this up other than sitting in a couple of UX vehicles in the showroom and owning two NX. I am looking forward to driving a UX and trying the next generation hybrid power train. There are still times now when the relative lack of performance from an NX irritates me. Normally when I’m on a single track A road and stuck behind a slower moving lorry. It definitely needs more space to safely overtake than in a lot of other vehicles I’ve owned.
  3. How’s your commission going on the sale of Lexus warranties? 😂
  4. A case of buying expensive cars but not having the means to keep them serviced perhaps? Servicing also spots things like broken rubber boots or gaiters over steering joints, rusty brake parts, leaks and other things. Especially on slightly older cars. Hybrid health check too. Always worth getting cars serviced in accordance with manufacturers recommended schedules I think. Having said this, only doing 3k miles in a year would definitely make me think twice about paying a lot of money to have it serviced again. Mine is under warranty so I would. If it was outside of warranty possibly I’d leave it longer. I’d factor in what was due to be replaced at that service because it’s not just 3k miles of wear because it may be that for example spark plugs needed changing at the 6 year point. If it was only due an interim service I’d likely delay it. Got to factor in the potential impact to value at re-sale time of having missed a service too. A personal choice then. Cars are expensive but on balance I think it’s worth paying to have them properly serviced. Like I said though - 3k miles in a year and out of warranty and only an interim service due, I’d consider delaying the next service.
  5. Tyre choice plays a big part in the secondary ride comfort of an NX. It’s a curious car sometimes. You feel the suspension working and it’s not too firm - primary ride comfort - and yet you feel every cat’s eye and tarmac ripple - secondary ride comfort. My experience with a previous NX was swapping to Goodyear Efficient Grip tyres eliminated this. Both the OE Yokohama’s and Bridgestones give this feeling. Plenty are saying that Michelin Cross Climates feel much better too. When you need to get round to it, changing to different tyres will help you I think 👍
  6. Difficult to do nowadays but I’d take it for a long drive of well over a 100 miles on the motorway and see if it still did it then.
  7. Don’t forget too that in very cold weather the AC won’t be allowed to switch on. The car takes care of this and decided whether it can be in or not. Just in case you sit there pressing AC and it won’t light up 😀
  8. 5 years ago I’d have bought the more expensive one. Now I’d buy the cheaper one. I’m within 2-4 years of early retirement and I’m starting to make decisions more about minimising cost rather than what I can afford. Last July I moved out of a 2019 IS300h Sport and into a 2015 NX300h Luxury. Both had 18k miles. To drive, my NX still feels like a new car and certainly as tight as the IS. You have a choice of two vehicles with only 9k miles difference, which is almost negligible given the quality of these cars, but with a considerable difference in purchase price, which is not negligible. I’ve spent an absolute fortune on cars in the past and whilst I was happy to do that at the time I wouldn’t do it now. You’ll have to ask yourself whether the newer car is worth it to you but given your priorities and wanting to be at about £300 per month, I would have thought the cheaper one would be the best bet. Buy the cheaper one and treat yourself to a private registration plate for £300 - £500 from DVLA and most people will never know you bought the cheaper one? Like you said - decisions decisions decisions 😀 Good luck with whatever you choose 👍
  9. If fitting a non OE battery make sure the terminals are oriented the same.
  10. Hi. I wondered why you fitted runflats on your IS? I always though runflats needed a slightly different design of wheel that keeps the tyre on the rim if the tyre goes flat. Just curious that’s all.
  11. Well done Mike! I dodged a few myself down there in 1982. A 2,500 ton frigate bounced around a bit more than a carrier too 😀
  12. Yes but has your missus seen an improvement? 😀
  13. A favourite book of mine to listen to in the car is Murray Walker’s autobiography narrated by the great man himself.
  14. Good luck! Looking forward to hearing how you get on 😀
  15. We could perhaps do with some form of poll to see how many people have experienced a flat 12v battery on their hybrid? It would be good to know if this is an isolated rare occurrence or whether it is more common.
  16. First time my Lexus lets me down by failing to start because of a flat 12v battery will be the beginning of the end of my relationship with the marque 🙁 I understand what people are saying and I do understand the need to keep a battery charged up either by driving it, running it on the driveway or trickle charging it. I’m making sure I use mine at least twice a week at the moment but there will be times where it has to be left unused and away from home for longer periods of time. What would not be acceptable to me is returning to my car to find the battery is flat just because it hasn’t been run for a week or more. People do go on holiday and park their cars for 2 weeks or longer at a time. I do myself. Can’t think of anything worse than returning to my car with suitcases in tow after a holiday and being unable to start the car. That said, it hasn’t ever happened to me yet with a Lexus hybrid. Hopefully it never will. My NX is on probation now though - let me down and you’re gone!! 😀 I’m aware that this isn’t just a Lexus issue. More and more manufacturers are packing their cars with systems that require some current and therefore battery drain whilst the car is off. Hmmnn. Is this progress I wonder? I used to have to keep batteries on charge on the old bangers I used to run many years ago and it’s not something I particularly want to go back to.
  17. I think we’re just going to have to disagree on this one. I think it’s a poor design and clearly an Achilles heel.
  18. We’re not really discussing whether Lexus/Toyota think it’s acceptable. We’re talking about whether it is acceptable to owners who are suffering flat 12v batteries or who are taking steps to prevent it or who are concerned this may happen. The two things are different. I’m just surprised. It clearly is an achilles heel.
  19. So tell me where in the marketing brochure it says that you have to make specific allowances for driving a hybrid? You’ve clearly done your research but I would bet you are in a very small minority.
