IS/CT/RC Discontinued in UK (and Europe?)
paulrnx replied to Overland's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Good job you lot aren’t running Lexus then. Let’s make loads of small saloons that fewer people in the UK want. Then lets make fewer SUVs that many people in the UK want. That should do it. -
I’d say some small stones have worked their way between the rear of the front disc and the backing plate. Potentially both wheels but more likely on the near side which is the side closest to the edge of the road where most of the loose stones are. The noise when it happens is bad. Not much info from the OP though and a first post so who knows if it’s a serious post.

Thinking of an NX - Help needed
paulrnx replied to Deathstar's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Me too 👍 I’ve had 19 cars in the last 20 years. Got to keep this one much longer. My wife said she would remove my danglies if I change within three years. Which is a fairly good incentive if I’m honest 😀 -
Haven’t played that one John. Years ago in company cars with a fuel card, we (computer engineers) used to play petrol station chicken. We’d wait until the fuel light came on and then we’d drive a bit more and then we’d ignore the next fuel station. And the next. And the next. Until we chickened out and filled up. It was always amazing how far you could go after the fuel light came on and after the car said zero miles range. Petrol cars of course.

Thinking of an NX - Help needed
paulrnx replied to Deathstar's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
You might find the car will be transformed if/when you change to a decent premium tyre. My experience is that all of the bump thump and poor secondary ride quality disappears once moving away from the OE fit tyres. -
Summer tyres

I put Goodyear Efficient Grip SUV tyres on a previous NX. They transformed the car. No bump thump, very quiet, supreme in the wet and good in the dry. It’s what I’m going to put on my current NX as soon as the Yokohamas wear down a bit more. I was thinking Michelin Cross Climates but I feel they’ll be too much of a compromise for 90% of my driving. -
Plug the details of your car into webuyanycar and see what they offer for it. That would then be the target price that I’d be trying to buy my company car at. Worth a shot. It’ll be a fairly accurate view of the trade price. You’re effectively buying the car sold as seen with no warranty so trade price is about the right price to pay for it.

I can’t ever see widespread use of EVs for the same reasons. Most substations couldn’t cope with with the extra demand from local housing trying to charge EVs. Most businesses won’t be able to have multiple charging points for the same reasons. Not enough generating capacity either. The leadtimes for new power stations and infrastructure are huge. All pie in the sky really.

Lexus Dealership experiences

Great stuff Phil. Sounds like a great car. I look forward to hearing all about it. Hope the collection goes well. Still quite a few sleeps to go! 😀 -
Luxury or Premier NX? Age or extras?

Yep this too -
Extended warranty
paulrnx replied to First_Lexus's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
I think that’s the crux of it. £795 for 2 years warranty, two free MOTs, and breakdown assistance for both partners is probably well worth it. -

Such a personal thing this. You just have to decide what is important to you- age or spec. I tend to go for mileage and condition rather than age. I’d then for a higher spec if choosing between two or more of similar mileage and condition. Doubt I’d go below a Luxury. Doubt I’d go for an F-Sport because to my ears and backside an F-Sport is worse. Such a personal choice though. -
Extended warranty

Which is great if you do drive in Europe. Less so if you don’t. I’d forgotten about the free MOTs 👍 -
Extended warranty
paulrnx replied to First_Lexus's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
I can afford it. More a question of whether I want to afford it. We typically don’t buy any extended warranties on anything we buy. Probably saved thousands over the years as a result of this. A car is a much more expensive proposition though. I’d forgotten about the free MOTs. I think I will end up renewing but still worth discussing I think. -

It’s all about attitude to risk isn’t it. A classic risk and reward decision. The risk is shelling out £400 per year that you never see a benefit from. The reward is having one or more repairs done at no cost other than the cost of the warranty of course. Another factor is the likelihood of a fault developing which needs a repair. I believe this is low given my experience of the marque to date. Then finally there is the hybrid system. This to me adds another level of complexity and risk. Yes they are reliable but any fault in this area is likely to be very expensive. Not that easy a decision. I’ll need to decide what to do in July. I do think that £795 for two years cover is relatively good value. I do keep coming back to the thought that It’s counter intuitive to drive a Lexus because they are super reliable and then buy a warranty just in case something breaks. The warranty won’t cover general wear and tear anyway. -

Glad you’ve found a car 👍 If buying remotely it’s always a good idea to have it confirmed in writing whether there are any scuffs, scrapes or dents/dings on the car. Also any damage to wheels. Also any damage to the interior. I always like to get confirmation of the tyre type (to ensure a matched set) and condition. You should be fine because of the age and mileage but it is a used car and not a brand new car so always worth checking. Good luck with the purchase and handover. 1st April is a long wait mind. Thought you might have got it earlier than that. I thought collecting a car was classed as an essential journey, might be wrong though 😀 Look forward to hearing all about the car. I’d recommend that you drive one beforehand if you can to check you’ll be ok with the power delivery. If you’ve been used to modern turbo diesels or petrol turbos you’ll find an NX is different. Awesome refinement and very comfortable but they are different. -
Taking NX300h from UK to Granada

We live in a democracy and we left the EU because we had a democratic vote to determine whether we would stay in or not and the result of this vote was to leave. Both sides of the argument can’t win and there is always a winner and a loser. That’s democracy for you. -
Nice car! Hope you enjoy it. It will certainly be more fun than an IS300h!!

Lexus Dealership experiences

Dealers will move cars round but generally only amongst dealerships in the same parent company/group. They won’t move them between dealerships in different groups. By group, I mean Motorline, Lister, Inchcape, etc. -
Bad egg smell sometimes
paulrnx replied to Whites's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
I’d bet on this being smell of sulphur from the exhaust. I’d possibly get it checked out though to be sure. This was a smell that was prevalent when cats were in their early days but it’s not something I smell so often nowadays. -

Alloy wheel repair needed
paulrnx replied to Brechin Slate's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
There is a brilliant place at Tewkesbury called Reinventing the Wheel. Probably too far away from you but they would do this repair for about £70-80 I would think based on work my family have had done there. This does mean there are places out there that offer a good service at a reasonable price. -

I have a clear picture of what you have described in my head Linas. Not good! 👍
