    Better to use a decent well recommended specialist than Halfords I’d say. Worth getting a quote I suppose but in general I wouldn’t think the best mechanics / workshop supervisors / workshop managers don’t work for Halfords. The challenge is to find a decent specialist though

    A great video! Had to watch it right through to the end to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Some people went into it at quite high speed and I’m sure they’d have had bodywork trim damage. Thanks for posting it up.

    I don’t hate cyclists at all. Usual social media sensationalism on here. You say something negative about something and people automatically think it’s hatred. A bit ridiculous really. I take steps to avoid where and when the particular cycling club I mentioned cycles. Perfectly reasonable I’d say.

    An enjoyable drive. A short drive up the M6 and across on the M54 to Telford before picking up the A5. Horseshoe Pass was amazing as usual. Much better than a 200 mile M6/M56/A55 slog. Still maintain these cars are better on A roads and B roads at speeds up to 50 than they are on dual carriageways and motorways.

    What I object to is a local cycling club riding too many abreast and occupying more than half the road and then expecting car drivers to move into the verge and come to a stop to let them pass. I’m all for showing courtesy and manners to every road user. I do this all the time. Unfortunately this particular cycling club shows no manners to any road user in motorised vehicles.

    Different cars. I think John was talking about swapping to a GS300h not an ES300h. Yours is a lovely looking car and different enough to a GS to make it worthwhile. Later generation hybrid powertrain too. I quite like the look of an ES I must admit. I’m not surprised you changed to an ES. Always nice to get a brand new car. Yours is a beautiful looking car 👍

    I regularly meet the local cycling club on country lanes when they are riding 4-5 deep and taking up slightly more than half the road. Very dangerous. They hold their formation and the outer riders furiously wave their arm and force cars over to the edge and to a virtual stop. The Police have been informed. Reckless idiots in my book I’m afraid.

    Keep what you’ve got I would think John. The only reason to swap would be if you genuinely wanted a different and newer car. Going from a GS450h to a GS300h would be quite a compromise imho 😀

    Out of curiosity, what kind of mark up is that from the trade-in price you agreed? Or roughly if you don’t want to be precise.

    Yes I think the newer one was slower. I had a brand new 2014 IS300H which I didn’t get on with and so I replaced it with a 2014 IS250 F-Sport which I had high hopes for. It always felt slower than the 2nd generation IS250 I’d had before. As you say I’m sure weight was a part of it. I’m not sure the engine was as good either. Could have also been partly due to later more stringent emissions control and strangling of the engine. It turned out to be slower than the Hybrid it replaced ☹️

    Yes, I’ve taken out short term car insurance in the past to cover an older car before sale after purchase of a newer car. I can’t remember how much it was but I do remember thinking it was reasonable at the time. I purchased it on line.

    We drove through Europe down to Rome in 2012. Never got more concerned for my immaculate at the time IS250 as we got stuck on the circular motorway round Rome in a traffic jam. People doing 80 down the hard shoulder, people deliberately crashing into other cars as they tried to force their way into another lane, arguments and a few fisticuffs. I’d never seen anything like it. Happened all around us. A real eye opener.

    If worried about going from a 3nd generation IS250 to an IS300H then why not move to a 3rd generation IS250 instead?
