  2. Nothing wrong with a higher mileage car. Especially if you only do 6k miles per year and plan on keeping for a while. A worthwhile saving I’d say.
  3. I had all four tyres ‘replaced’ on an approved used Jaguar XE after two months of ownership. I asked the dealership to replace them, they refused, I replaced all four tyres at my own expense (badly cracking and I didn’t want to take the risk), I wrote to the Head Office of that dealership group, dealership then got back to me and agreed to pay me what I had paid for the tyres and arranged a bank transfer. Cost them more than if they’d have agreed to do it themselves because they paid me what I’d paid retail. It took a while but you just need to be firm, be polite, be consistent and make it clear that you want the dealership to replace or reimburse you. The dealer principal is the first port of call after the sales person refuses but I had been told by the dealership that the dealer principal had refused my replacement so I went straight to their Head Office. If they’d have still refused I’d have gone down the small claims route. I had enough evidence to show the tyres needed to be replaced - another Jaguar dealership had condemned the tyres and I’d received a quote for replacement tyres and why they needed replacing. The poor condition of my tyres could not have been caused by me in such a relatively short time and mileage. Get the car checked out somewhere else, get confirmation the tyres need replacing by way of a quote/ report and then put it all in writing to the dealer principal first and then to their head office if no joy. Hope you get a decent outcome here 👍 As an aside. And we’re seeing this a lot as more and more people buy without viewing. Always email the dealership and ask some specific questions that you want answering. 1. Are all tyres of the same make and model. 2. What are the tread depths of all tyres. 3. Are there any stone chips, scuffs, scratches or any other damage to the car. 4. Is there any damage to any interior or any scuffs, marks, scratches etc. 5. Is there any damage to any of the alloy wheels. 6. Ask to see full evidence of the service history. Dates, mileage and location of each service. Compare this to the manufacturers’ recommended schedule. I have seen so many cars advertised as having full service history when they clearly haven’t. If you don’t get the answers you want or something doesn’t feel quite right or the condition isn’t what you want then just walk away. There are so many other cars out there to choose from. If a sales person doesn’t reply to emails asking about the condition of the car then this is a big red flag to me. I bought remotely from Lexus Tunbridge Wells. I had answers in an email and the video they sent me showed all four tyre makes (the same) and tread depth. They pointed out two areas of bodywork that needed slight attention and confirmed that they would touch them in. They confirmed that there was no other bodywork or interior damage. When I collected they showed me the two areas which had been touched in and I was pleased with the results. The car was exactly as described. A good experience all round and I was treated well and the dealership was honest with me. I knew I was buying a used car and so I didn’t expect the car to be in the same condition as a brand new car straight out of the factory. If I ever turned up to collect a car and it was not in the condition described, I’d walk away every single time without fail. Or I would negotiate a different price to allow me to put it right at my expense. Having said this, I’d always wonder what else the dealership may have covered up or been less than honest about. I still buy from people and if people are dishonest with me or can’t be arsed to reply or dodge the questions, I walk away. I’m not trying to be clever here. I didn’t always do this and I got burned a bit in my younger days so there is more than a little bit of pain and experience in the above!

  5. You realised it though. Well done! 😀 There was an article in the news a good 10-15 years ago I’d say but I can’t remember for sure. An SUV had mounted the lower bonnet of a coupe in a parking accident outside a school. The driver of the SUV was quoted as saying it shouldn’t have happened because the SUV had parking sensors. Says it all really 🤣

  7. An increase in minor repairs as a result of parking sensors not operating and people relying on the Force or perhaps nudge parking 😀
  8. It’s still the average of all of these journeys that defines a car’s true mpg figure. It is not one short journey in highly favourable conditions quoted in isolation. It’s great to see fantastic highs but they are necessarily representative. Interesting post though, thanks for sharing 👍 Some very interesting information in that article
  9. I wonder if it is going to be possible to register for this new warranty from 1st June, or whatever the start date is, to the date that the next service is due. I can’t believe they would expect people to bring forward their next service just to enable the warranty?
  10. It’s only longer term averages that make any sense, say over a tankful or a week or a month or much longer. We can always quote superlative mpg figures for a short period in advantageous conditions. Mine does >99.9 mpg when sat on the driveway with the ICE off most of the time. A silly comparison I know but then so is quoting a one-off short journey. The one way to get an accurate figure is to reset the mpg and measure it forever. A lot of people would be surprised at how much lower a long term figure was than the occasional highs seen on relatively short journeys in ideal conditions. I’ve been guilty of it myself. I’ve seen as high as 73 mpg on some journeys in an IS300H and yet my longer term average was always in the 42-44 ballpark.
  11. That last bit is how I’m considering it. Factor in the free hybrid health check too and it’s looking like exceptional value to me. Although I will now need to look at breakdown cover of course. This can be had quite cheaply via car insurance add-on. Unless of course my media/satnav unit goes. In which case it’s not!
  12. Agreed. Bringing customers back inside the servicing network also opens up the possibility of persuading them to replace their cars.
  13. Equally, royoftherovers had also spent £4500 in extended warranties over the same period. So it was a £1,000 return on a £4500 investment. A warranty gives peace of mind, it doesn’t necessarily offer value for money. There will be exceptions of course where someone massively wins in terms of repairs v cost of warranties. I do understand why people buy extended warranties, I’ve done it myself on many occasions. Only ever for cars though.

Create a new free of charge warranty package to cover all those items that hardly ever fail and exclude all those items that do and hey presto you remove all cost and risk from your warranty product. You also have a good story to tell all prospective new customers and existing customers who don’t have warranties and/or have services done outside of the franchised network. What you might do however is p1ss off existing customers who always service inside the network and who always purchase the extended warranty for complete peace of mind motoring. I was in two minds in purchasing an extended warranty when mine runs out at end July. On balance I probably would have done though. I had however also been questioning the wisdom of buying a quality and reliable Lexus that never goes wrong but at the same time buying an extended warranty just in case it did go wrong. I think this new product suits me. I’ll continue to service mine at a dealership and enjoy a free warranty every year on the really big ticket items. If anything not covered by the warranty fails I will then investigate the best way to fix it at the time. This may be via a Lexus dealership, an independent, or an aftermarket company that offers repairs to Lexus media, navigation and other things not covered by the warranty. This subject is going to get quite a few column inches on the forum I think!

  16. Still got this gap between extended warranty expiry at end July and next service due in November. But I was going to renew the warranty at end July anyway for £795 (for two years). So I suppose I could just bring the service forward and for £655 I get the expensive service done and a free year’s warranty. Ok I have to purchase breakdown cover but this can be had fairly cheaply nowadays and there is also an option to purchase the cover through Lexus. Does anyone know if purchasing the breakdown cover through Lexus still provides cover for a spouse/partner?
