  1. Exactly this, agreed. The motorist will still be an easy target. Always has been, always will be.
  2. I’m in the middle of an extended V-Power trial. I’m on my third consecutive tankfull and I’m seeing a real improvement in economy of now up to nearly 4mpg and the car does seem to have a bit more get up and go. The real test will be in a week’s time where I do another long journey to/from N Wales over exactly the same roads and speeds. Done it three times before and achieved 40mpg every time. If I see anything over 42.5mpg this time I’m probably going to stick with V-Power. I was always convinced Lexus hybrids, or at least the 4 cylinder 300 variants, had no benefit from V-Power etc but I’m not so sure now. Factor in the other additives that keep the combustion areas cleaner and I may decide it’s worth it for me.
  3. The real challenge with widespread BEV ownership will be how the government recoups the loss of fuel duty. There are many discussions going on about how this happens, some of which we do hear about and some we don’t I would think. The motorist has been a cache cow for successive governments for a very long time and this will continue in some form.
  4. Good news! 👍
  5. Thanks for posting this 👍 Can’t wait to try the new NX450h.
  6. Phones radiate a considerable amount of rf. More so when they lose contact with a mobile cell. They’ll steadily increase the power of the rf being emitted until they get contact with a cell again. It’s the way they work. The human body has zero protection from powerful rf so keeping a phone in one’s pocket is not a great idea because the rf is being radiated directly into the human body.
  7. Oops. My mistake
  8. The only true AWD NX is the 200T I’d have thought. Most others are marketed as AWD on account of having the extra electric motor driving the rear wheels. Must admit I thought it was way more than 5%. All NX Luxury variants have AWD or at least I thought they did. Maybe not?
  9. On a heavily cambered road if you take your hands off the wheel then any car will steer down the slope. You can’t escape physics. This means there’ll always be a degree of holding the steering wheel to avoid this which may to some give the impression people are talking about here. Best to get a level piece of road, maybe in a flat car park somewhere and drive straight hands off to ensure the car tracks true. To be honest though, don’t try to self-diagnose this. Get your tracking checked via a reputable specialist, ideally with a Hunter setup because these are recognised to be one of the best machines. Hunter specialists can be found via alignmycar.com. Get it adjusted if necessary. If it still does it after and your tyres are well worn then replace the tyres. If it still does it then it’s probably your imagination. You is not aimed at anyone in particular. I’m just trying to provide information. Oh and also check tyre pressures. Don’t be tempted to run your tyres with lower or higher pressures than recommended in the inside driver’s door pillar. Set them at the recommended up to 160 km/h setting which for 18” wheel vehicles is 2.2bar. If you can only measure psi then it is 32psi. Measure pressures when tyres are cold and definitely not after having just driven the car. Heat increases pressure so you’ll get a higher reading if measuring when tyres are warm/hot which effectively leads to an under-inflation. Don’t worry about this sort of stuff though. Test on a flat car park, check pressures, check alignment and as a last resort change the tyres. Worth noting that defective suspension bushes may also cause funny symptoms because this would allow the wheels to slightly move around with no steering input. Hope this helps.
  10. Great result and well done 👏
  11. Beautiful photos! Well, apart from the ones where the Tesla keeps making an appearance!! 😉😀 Loch Ness by any chance? I live Scotland. Some of the best driving roads in the UK. Well, apart from the A9.
  12. Spot on. A 2WD car with winter tyres will out perform a 4WD car without winter tyres. In wintry conditions of course!
  13. You’re not running over the neighbour’s cat every time you reverse perchance? 😀
  14. What insurance companies are you with when you manage to get a genuine Lexus screen fitted please? Just interested for the future.
  15. Hi. That’s not quite true. It is Bio-ethanol that is 33% less efficient than pure petrol. 5% more bio-ethanol between e5 and e10 fuel then. 33% of that extra 5% is less efficient so you end up with about a 1.6% reduction in efficiency between e5 and e10 fuel. It’s only the extra 5% of bio-ethanol that is 33% less efficient. By my reckoning e10 fuel is therefore about 3.3% less efficient than e0 or whatever fuel was called when it had no bio-ethanol.
  16. We went to Norway in 2017. A lovely country. We’ll be going back next year, Covid permitting.
  17. Looks like a bit of a dump where you’re staying mind.
  18. Has anyone driven the new Mirai?
  19. We are not saying that Hydrogen is the answer now. I think we are saying it might well be the answer in future when BEVs are proven to be unsustainable. I still hold to this view. Some fabulous driving roads in Scotland. I’ve done a tour of Scotland in a 5 litre V8 Jaguar. Bet I had more fun in that than I could ever have in a BEV.
  20. Look forward to hearing all about it. We are thinking quite seriously about a BEV. We plan to retire in 16 months time and that’s when we might do it. Our plan would be to use the BEV for as many journeys as possible but keep a second ICE car for when we do our regular long journeys and probably also driving holidays. Unless things radically change by then. I can see some kind of tax on electric or perhaps road tolls as the government has to recoup lost fuel taxation. I look forward to hearing all about your UXE during this period. I really like the UX and it would suit us when we retire.
  21. Now that is a fine post. Unfortunately not all of your posts are. There is something wrong with your rear doors though. Tesla have mounted the hinges on the wrong pillar 🤣
  22. My wear was uneven and I had the alignment done. Car tracked straight and wear was even again from that point. I still had to change the tyres after they had worn down a bit more. Since fitting new tyres, wear is even across all 4 tyres. Wheel alignment should be checked on at least an annual basis to avoid uneven wear. If ever a steering wheel becomes misaligned in the straight ahead position and/or you notice uneven wear, get an alignment done as soon as possible after you first notice it. Heavily cambered roads may give a slightly offset steering wheel. This is nothing to worry about as long as the steering wheel returns to the straight ahead position on a relatively flat road when driving straight. When I had the Yokohamas on mine, even after doing the wheel alignment there was still a slightly offset to the right steering wheel at straight ahead which got noticeably worse on heavily cambered roads. I had the alignment checked again and all was well. When I then had all four tyres replaced with New Goodyear tyres this completely disappeared. It may well have been that once the Yokohamas had worn in a specific way they didn’t track down the road properly. Just a theory of mine though.
