  1. Question to Smothope…..do you use your car with the AC On all the time or only turn it on occasionally when it is uncomfortable hot inside the car? reason being is that the AC Should be used on a regular basis ( I suggest 30 mins per month minimum) to keep it in a fully functioning condition so as not to allow things to seize up and for gases and oils to circulate around the system. FYI I run my 250 with AC On all the time and just adjust the temp to suit conditions, in AUTO mode it will run if required.
  2. “Burning smell when AC is turned on” sort of points towards what I said you should (get) checked, AC pulley is seized and not allowing belt to drive the alternator and I would suggest you now prob need a new belt as well!
  3. Are you thinking of getting a Diesel engined Lexus?……..then please don’t, no matter how cheap it may be to purchase you may end up with a money pit ( don’t just take it from me but please check a bit deeper!) Petrol, then that is a different matter ie, IS250 will not cost you much in the long run on repairs compared to many others and especially a 220D. Diesel is much more expensive than petrol right now and the economy ( when it’s running correctly) is not a million miles away from a 250 when driven on longer journeys, having said that you don’t want a diesel for short ( time & mile) journeys anyway.
  4. Is air con compressor clicking in and out OK? AC pulley may be seized and affecting the drive belt that drives the alternator to charge the battery. run car and check under bonnet that belt is all ok when AC is turned on and off.
  5. I’ve used one of these for years doing just this and it works a treat with nice plastic contact points👍( about £6 from Toolstation and of course has many other uses😀)
  6. “And Iam not going to pay what my local OE vendor wants for the Toyota WS fluid. It is too expensive.” can you not get it On-line anywhere for an acceptable price ?
  7. According to the C-Tek manual it says ‘Battery inside vehicle connect to chassis (away from fuel lines!) but I have connected mine with the permanent ring ended C-Tek Comfort connector straight onto battery terminals so 🤷🏼
  8. That age car was prob a trade in and they had the man’s pants down on the price, older car, wrong colour, high tax, wrong fuel blah blah blah🙄
  9. +1 on that, this 250 is the first car I have had since 1984 with LESS than 100,000 miles on when bought! ( 4 cars ) Tell a little lie…the second Mondeo I bought had 99,500 miles on it and bloke was selling it because it was gonna get to 100,000 and his Mrs said it had to go! 🙄 it’s got 176,000 on it now😂😂
  10. Not even a moonroof or ACC as well 🙄
  11. It only takes one person to buy it and they’ve made a killing!
  12. In that case ( no previous history ) you may get offered a speed school session instead of the points ( the fee is equal to the fine but no points) and I guarantee you will learn something you never knew about road craft if you choose ( highly recommended ) to opt for it.
  13. Good move that man👍 I was just going by your profile specs!
  14. Water pump change should be ‘bread & butter’ job for any garage calling itself a ‘workshop’!! It is also not an impossible job to do ‘at home’ with a basic toolkit. see here and assess if it is within your skill set and equipment ability.
  15. Dohhh. That vid I posted was for a 250 and you have a 220 so I don’t think it’s gonna help much! 🙄
  16. Wow..looks like you took the whole bottle! ( “took a couple of Brave Pills”)😂 Not wishing any sort of bad Karma but…..Back in the ‘90’s my friend had a Vauxhall Carlton Lotus….you know the beast that was mentioned in the House of Commons because the Police forces could not catch it ( not even in a Helicopter!) and wanted it banned! So he went to Derby to take a Maserati out for an extended test drive ( whole weekend ) leaving his Lotus at the dealers, in the course of that weekend it broke down and recovery was called out 3 times! ( starter motor, ignition switch and hand brake failures) let’s just say he was glad to get back in his Vauxhall and I have my fingers crossed for you that all goes well. Not sure what year your car is but hopefully things have improved in the reliability dept. But I reckon Its gonna be a million miles from the ISF Note: I just noticed it’s a 2007 so now a ‘teenager’ so hopefully not a ‘Moody’ one.😂
  17. Unless you go to work everyday in a quarry then any decent brand name ( from a reputable seller!) will be fine in your 13 year old car ( over priced genuine not essential/cost effective any more) and will be a breath of fresh air ( see what I did there!) for your current filter I guess. 👍 note: if you do have a genuine one in there then you can ‘refresh’ it carefully with an air line by back blasting it. This shows cabin filter cleaning but same rules apply,
  18. Interesting video ( I thought so anyway 😀) whereby car had a fault occur straight after fixing something totally unconnected and this threw the fault finding process right out the window and previous garage gave up!
  19. So….do you know exactly which components in the fueling system were not compatible with E10 and subsequently changed ( to newer compatible parts I guess!) to allow you to now use E10 grade fuel.
  20. Explanation here: https://www.carobdcodes.com/lexus-p0430-catalyst-system-efficiency-below-threshold-bank-2.shtml
  21. No more than the Scrotes who go nicking them with a cloning device 🙄
  22. +1 on above! oil at normal operating temp will run at well above 100’C so yes, could be coolant temp that is being monitored. But, and a big BUT is OP mentioned a temp of 120’ !!!! If it was coolant system being watched ( note coolant and Not water) it will go above 100’C quite easily ( in a pressurised system) but 120’C is not what you want to see😳
  23. GMG, £4k about a year ago for a SE-L with 45k miles….you must have worn a mask! Like Richard ( won’t let me put his real name here!!!) Turpin 😂😂😂😂
