  1. Just found this on YouToob and it is news to me and may get you out of a tricky situation one day. (If it's true, you know what the old Interweb can be like!)
  2. I'm not sure Funghi has actually gone and bought this car yet ( well he has'nt actually said he has!) but in my case I did make a concerted effort to steer clear of DERV when looking for my 250 after trawling through this forum of 1st hand owners/drivers. But in the end it's horses for courses and as I will now be doing sub 4000 (non-motorway) miles a year then a 220D was not for me. paul m.
  3. 3rd will Deffo get the cobwebs out at 70 mph!!!! paul m.
  4. If it's private sell then email the guy, if he is a proud owner he'll wanna tell you all about it or if it is a dealer then ' Dunno mate it is what it is!" Is the sort of response I normally get from dealers when asking them technicals. Question? Is the ISF Multimedia (ML) SatNav anyway different to the 250 SE-L Multimedia (ML) SatNav system? paul m.
  5. "You know it makes sense" and now any/all doubt about the suitability of the said filter has been alleviated. paul m.
  6. My two penneth on this subject is something that was told to me years ago and has stuck in my head ( for some reason) ever since, that is when changing gearbox oil due to the fact it rarely gets changed the plugs might be siezed in very tightly, so always remove the filler plug first to ensure it is free and then the drain as if you do vice versa you could end up stuck with no gearbox oil and be unable to put any new in! paul m.
  7. That's the difference between a "Fitter" and a "Technician", a fitter just changes out parts and the technician tells you which parts to change!!!
  8. Pass......... I'm guessing here, so don't quote me, but I reckon it went for a service/MOT and some nugget of a technician put the wrong mileage down and the customer/next technician never spotted it until the next year! No going back now is there? paul m.
  9. Here's some proof Bob....I hope Tom (the dealer) doesn't mind me posting this video as the original Ad is no longer available. Picking the car up soon.....
  10. You were right something did turn up in the end, and only 10 miles from where I live!
  11. Car is for sale Privately http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201707077170253?transmission=Automatic&onesearchad=Used&make=LEXUS&sort=datedesc&body-type=Saloon&postcode=bs166lf&model=IS 250&advertising-location=at_cars&radius=1500&maximum-mileage=80000&aggregatedTrim=SE-L&page=1 Checking on DVLA ( I Know!) mileage between early MOT's was rediculusly low. but I think the problem arose through the dealers mistake.
  12. Not sure on the Lexus but to do an ECU reset ( of the volatile memerory) it is a good ideal to turn on a bulb when the battery is disconnected as what you are doing is trying to totally dissipate all the electrical charge supplied to the ECU and if you turn on a lamp while the battery is disconnected then absolutely all charge should be disapated. Also the time of disconnection required Vary greatly depending on your info source!
  13. That is some serious Krap in there, what sort of state is/was the filters (Engine air intake and cabin air inlet ) on this car like? paul m.
  14. Excellent write up, thoroughly loved reading your adventure getting your next project and having 'been there done that' it is great to get a good result although you do despair at times! can't wait for the next instalment....... paul m.
  15. Can you believe this? https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-2nd-gen-2006-2013/860999-won-lexus-lottery.html can you see this happening when the airbag recall gets addressed over here? paul m.
  16. In Lexus land ACC = Adaptive Cruise Control
  17. Lots of reading material here, especially under the "Model History" Tab https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/lexus/is-2005/ Paul M.
  18. I here that unless you like collecting points, and I don't mean Clubcard points! Then 6th gear is pretty unusable until you go on holiday to Germany! And unusually for Lexus there was not an Auto option on this range of car. paul m.
  19. This is an entertainment unit ( pictured in above post!!!!!) with the 'Mark Levinson' enhanced system (logo under cd slot). And also DVD and MP3 CD capable as per logo under the DAB/AM radio button. paul m.
  20. Stop/start on a Diesel I always thought was not a good move, Diesel engines work at their best at constant revs under constant load for long periods, ie generators, ships etc. Not Land Rovers on the 0.75 mile school run! i think that DERV has had it's day personally. (For light duty vehicles anyway) paul m
  21. Yes your are right about the colour appeal as this is my least fav colour, but I am willing to live with it for a while to enjoy all the toys and treat myself to the luxury of a well spec'ed car. I am looking forward to actually getting to know the car inside out. Sado that I may be but I enjoy reading manuals and instruction books and this car with its nav system has got tombs! cheers Paul m.
  22. BOOM!,,,,,, It just got a whole lot easier.... just managed to bag a IS250 SE-L mm with black leather 37,000 miles & 7 Lexus Stamps, albeit in my least favourite colour (Silver) but wait for it......it's got a Sunroof (Moonroof according to Lexus) and although it has a few scars on the rear bumper ( fixable at the end of the day) what I could not resist was the fact it got ACC (Unicorn poop I'm lead to believe?) not got it yet but can't wait and will post some pics when able to. so Title should now read "Got there in the end " cheers paul m.
  23. Well this actually pleases me (as potential owner of a IS250) the fact that gaining access to the remote unlocking/starting system is not that easy and even main dealers are reluctant or indeed unable to code second hand key cards. Yes may be a bit of an inconvenience if you want to add a device on the cheap but in the long run I guess it is for the better I.e. More security every owner out there. Paul m.
