  1. +1 on the basics first, 3/4 of a tank you say? Is there any way that gauge could be faulty and you have not put fuel in for a while? Do you keep tabs on range/fuel used as if gauge is faulty then computer's indicated range will also be faulty ( untrue ) Did anything unusual happen before parking it up before this attempted start? paul m.
  2. Recently got new struts for the bootlid on my IS250 as it was slamming down hard ( very un-Lexus like if let go from about 1/3 to 1/2 open posistion) Got them from SGS Engineering and All fitted well and good. https://www.sgs-engineering.com/car-boot-tailgate/lexus/is/gsc2655-lexus-is300-boot-strut Note the Typo of IS300 in Ad! Are those pics out of focus? or do I need to go to spec savers some time soon! paul m.
  3. Colour could be an acquired taste but if it ain't too far then I suggest going and standing in front of it! The car 'looks' ok but really need to get up close and personal, mileage is low for year but 4 owners is a bit of a negative ( for me anyway) we all know how well built and reliable these are so if it drives straight and doesn't make any undue noises then the price ( with a bit of haggling of course ) seems about right for a dealer. 2 keys is good point ( so can't chip price on that score) paul m. dont forget the buyers guide for an aide memoir ( print it out and take it with you!) and any points not upto standard can possibly be used in the haggle conversation! But we also know descent SE-L's don't sit around long on forecourts! And it's got the black interior ( only choice in my book)
  4. You say your caliper pins have been untouched for at least 12 months so what sort of state, may I ask, were they in when you stripped them down ( were they showing any signs of becoming siezed in any way?) and could you tell, from any remains, what type of grease may have been used last time? having done it recently it is quite a straight forward operation and if it negates having to pay £100's for replacement calipers in the future then it is a job that I can live with doing repeatedly. paul m.
  5. Pretty comprehensive list of paint codes ( Mostly IS like it states)
  6. I don't/won't do FarceBook so those links are lost on me! paul m.
  7. don't tell me your boot has been locked since September last year!! I guess the proximity sensor/key must have been 'shielded' in some way so as not to 'see' each other? paul m.
  8. +1 on that Battery, got one under my bonnet! admittedly was a tight fit but best to have as big as you can get in there! ( she once told me!) paul m.
  9. yes, it's working as it should as it detects objects 'straight' ahead. paul m.
  10. yes, sharp bends can be a problem, and it can work in the reverse also ie. braking can occur if on a tight right hand two lane carrageway with a large vehicle on the inside lane when your (outside lane) is clear. Just gotta be aware and allow for it. Paul M.
  11. That would have been nice. black on black leather and the facelift model as well by the looks ( indicator repeaters in door mirrors) but what will be will be and you won't supposed to have it, thats the way I look upon these things. so they are cheaper up North then? bring 'em down here and add a grand! paul m.
  12. Yes but they are heavy money and I'd like to think you could get the same sort of car for less ' up North' Paul m.
  13. I did mine recently but made a slight faux pas when doing the fronts, so got the car jacked up and caliper off and secured with a bungee on coil spring and decide to turn the front wheel on full lock to gain better access to pin area. Start car for steering action ( you got it- Foot on brake pedal to start car!!!!! ) Instantly I realised then - Out comes caliper piston against Nothing! Dreaded the sight when I walked around but luckily it only travelled about 25mm! Very slowly ( so as not to flip seal lip in master cylinder ) pushed back piston with a 'G' clamp. All good now and will check the condition of the pins again ( silicon grease used) in 6 months. paul m.
  14. 'Bulbs'.... Always makes me chuckle as when I was an apprentice Electrician many moons ago an 'old sweat' took great delight in correcting me every time I mentioned Bulbs by saying that " Bulbs Grow and Lamps Glow" paul m.
  15. Just found that seller's ad and according to the Lexus brochure my 250 has a paint code of 1G1 Argento Ice but the seller calls code 1G1 Tungsten Pearl ? Bit off putting! Or is it because the seller is using the names from the US perhaps as none seem to be the same and No Messa Red? paul m.
  16. That one is Not a SE-L model, as the SE-L is the only model that has the Yamaha high lacquer Wood trim inserts. paul m
  17. That driver looks well dodgy! Or am I just being stereotypical? Sure does look like a bad dude straight out of a Tarantino flick. paul m
  18. This is what a 'wrong' battery looks like . Top dollar priced car but battery is not the correct one ( reversed terminal positions) therefore the battery leads have been stretched to fit the terminals and the protective caps do not sit on properly! Asking for trouble if you ask me! looks like the rubber weather strip as been knocked out of place as well ( prob by person who fitted wrong battery!)
  19. If yours 'started' to sieze up after a little over 12 months then I guess you are looking at an absolute maximum of 12 month interval in the future, but if it has been exposed to all the salt/grit that has been spread on the roads lately then this might have 'accelerated' the problem. Last week I had to get all four tyres removed and have 4 new valves fitted as the dust caps ( the previous owner had actually paid and fitted metal ones) had siezed solid onto the valve stems. They had a hex type shape and even a 10mm socket and 'mole' grips on the rubber valve stem could not remove them. I reckon that the combination of aluminium caps onto a steel valve stem had caused some sort of galvanic reaction and this along with all the salt on the roads meant they were almost 'welded' on, that's what it felt like. So £40 later got some simple black plastic dust caps and can check pressures no problem. paul m.
  20. Bit disconcerting is the fact that the R4V site states that my reg is available for £499 when I beg to differ! paul m.
  21. was a manual not available from Lexus themself via the MyLexus web portal?
  22. pay a deposit of something you have not seen? if it's as good as his says then he'll have no problem getting rid of it will he? paul m.
  23. Dunno about you but when I first got my 250 the first tank of fuel was, let's just say, not used with economy in mind! paul m.
  24. Do all the parts strip down to just the wood components completely? It's just that the chrome surround around the gear selector gate looks very intricate if you had to 'cut in' around it. Very neat looking job and I guess it is 'reversible' if required? paul m.
