New owner of 2006 IS250 SE-L - My project thread
Texas replied to IS250Mike's topic in Lexus Build Threads
Amazed that front bumper needs to be removed to get access to front indicator lamps! Slight design fail there I feel, but I guess it's pretty restricted in there and something had to give! I got a feeling Halfrauds ain't fitting these for a tenner then?? Not that you would want them to. So...if access is that awkward then it might make good sense to go in and fit super long lasting LED's ( well that's gonna be my excuse to do this mod anyhow) Paul m. -
Heavy boot lid

These are the kiddies I got and put on my 2007 IS250, I guess your 2010 is gonna use the same. note. Price is per each and the ad states IS300 for some reason??? But easy DIY fit, just take one off at a time as the boot lid is gert heavy with No struts attached!! ( don't ask!) https://www.sgs-engineering.com/car-boot-tailgate/lexus/is/gsc2655-lexus-is300-boot-strut paul m. -
...Removing the plastic 'fir tree' type fasteners that hold the lining on the inside of the boot lid on my 250. It is quite awkward as the clips are recessed into the 'boot card' but they have a slot running through them which when a suitable size cable tie is fed through allows you to yank the blighters out!! paul m.

New owner of 2006 IS250 SE-L - My project thread

You're right in the fact that the SE-L is the most equipped model in the 250 range, only one to have wood ( and it is real wood highly lacquered and made by Yamaha, as in the musical instruments not the motorbikes!) inserts in the cabin and the only model to have the rear electric sun screen. if you want to upgrade the folding door mirrors to auto fold upon locking the car ( as fitted to later models) then this can easily be achieved with a device called a PO-40 module ( lots of info on this forum if you search). I have done this mod as a visual indicator from afar that the car is indeed locked, keyless entry and all that. hope you're gonna be as pleased with your 250 as I am. Paul m. -

I have purchased via DVLA direct and all went super smooth. paul m. -
If any sensor ( ie coolant temperature) was faulty or outside of normal limits then I would expect it to show via OBD. But having said that a coolant temperature sensor is in effect is only gonna feed the ECU with info so it ( the ECU) can trim the engine fuel requirements (think old fashioned Choke) exsisting sensor might be able to be tested to see if it is within spec in situ. out of interest what device/software are you using to interrogate the ECU? paul m.

Not an expert on the LS, but from what you have changed already covers most of the normal causes of possible sluggish running. But one thing that comes to mind is the fuel system, has the fuel filter been changed recently as a dirty/restricted fuel filter will cause flow problems especially when under load or when accelerating. paul m

It does indeed look like very slight weepage of fluid from the joint between the rubber seals and the body of the caliper ( prob an MOT fail it it were to come in front of an inspector). very unlucky/unusual for what looks like Both to be weeping? One yes but both? Did you buy more than one caliper from this place as they may have a quality control issue, ie in the prep of the body before fitting rubber seals or indeed the actual fitting, or the seals themselves! Don't think I would be happy with finding this either. Think you need to escalate the complaint a bit to say the least with the seller. paul m.

That is a hint from the insurance companies to the manufactures to get them to step up the level of security on the feature if they want to still include it in future models. Sure the level of encryption can be increased to make it super secure but it's gonna cost and manufactures wanna keep every little item within a budget. Can't really see the feature being withdrawn at the moment so standby for something to give ( Ie an excuse to increase price or make it a cost option) paul m.

Good write up there that man!!!! As mentioned I have done this replacement job on my 250 pretty soon after getting it because the boot lid was quite heavy to lift up and slammed down ( if allowed) very in-Lexus like. I guess if you have lived with your 250 for a very long time then you may not notice the struts failing gradually over time and may learn to live with the boot lid behaving differently. paul m.

The IS250 can suffer from an (occasional) rattle upon start up. It is due to lack of oil in the upper valve area from drain down from not being used for a long while. It is a known 'fault' and subsides after a couple of seconds but does sound very un-Lexus like. There was a recall in the US that required an upper head rebuild! But by all accounts the problem re-occurred again in some cases. paul m.

Like I have mentioned in the past Lexus will reccomend replacing any siezed caliper (£££'s) and not a strip down and clean/lube and rebuild. Paul m. -

If your are thinking of the Lexus Extended Warrenty then please note that it is only available for cars upto 10 years old ( from date of registration ) Don't want to put a downer on things but Alas this particular car was registered on 30/7/08 ( so Ten year deadline is in two days!) and I have heard that this condition is set in Stone! paul m.

Also ( at your own risk and you never heard it from me!) one method to find induction 'leaks' is to spray a volitile aerosol ( EasyStart) in and around the inlet manifold and hoses and note if engine revs increase when on idle. Watch out for moving and Hot parts obs! paul m.
