  1. Yes, ACC is the Active or Adaptive Cruise Control which can be identified (if fitted) by a extra 'Distrance' button on the right side of the steering wheel and by the 'smooth' front grill mounted Lexus 'L' badge which houses the forward facing millimetre radar unit. Paul m
  2. Deffo the rain put a halt to your Cruising. When using ACC it will be interrupted when the windscreen wipers go at high speed ( logic being that if the weather is so bad for high speed wiping action then cruise control is not advisable ) so if you have wipers on Auto they may go into high speed mode ( just for a split second) without you really noticing and shut off the cruise control. paul m.

  5. Have a read of this, but you have got the correct battery reserved at ECP if needed ( most retailers will try to give you a 063, wrong!) Paul m.
  6. +1 on above info, isolate battery from car and charge slowly for as long as poss, As the car is an 09 it may be that the battery is the original factory fit battery and at the end of its life. If it has stickers like below on the top then it is original and 9 years old! The 140707 is the date stamp, my old battery being 'released' 14 July 2007. A new battery is gonna be about £85-95 but charge yours initially as you got nothing to loose! Paul m.

  8. For a start ( no pun intended) are you 100% sure that battery is tip top? As yours is a DERV they are not gentle on batteries to say the least and if it is getting on in years ( the battery) then it may be giving you a sign before it actually dies when it gets colder soon. I know this may be basic but all fault finding should be done in a logical sequence and this is the first port of call on starting problems this time of year. paul m.
  9. Yes even on the 'shortest' setting people will pull in front of you sending you backwards! But still good on a long run but obs keep you wits about you has you know it has its failings, heavy rain, corners, etc. That said I try to use it as much as poss. Paul m
  10. In theory it looks like you could 'bypass' the AC compressor pulley with the belt run, but actually in practice it may not be possible. And working out what size (Length) belt would be suitable is another thing unless you own an auto spares shop! most belts have their length in mm included in the part number, and this one is prob over 1000mmm! Note when refitting, the 'idler' wheel and 'Tensioner' wheel run against the 'back' or smooth side of the belt and the pulleys themselfs run against the polyvee side. Info. A 1 inch wide polyvee belt has the surface area in contact with the polyvee pulley equal to almost a 2 inch plain flat one!   12. Question? Did/do you normally leave the AC on all the time, or just turn it on when required? There is a concensus that leaving it on all the time may actually prolong it MTBF. Think fridge/freezer these can go for years without needing attention. But It may not last as long if shut down on a regular basis. paul m.

  14. Rubber 'burning' is prob the belt getting pulled over the static AC pulley, sapping the power from the starter motor on start up. From memory because of the route of the belt I don't think it is possible to fit a shorter belt and 'bypass' the AC pulley to keep the vehicle on the road without functioning AC. paul m
  15. After checking condition of belt and getting it out of the way check for any siezed pulleys or any foreign object that may have 'jammed' belt/pulley system. As above engine should start ( but don't run for long) without belt but you will have no auxiliaries. here's hoping it something as simple as a trashed belt and no major damage done! paul m.
  16. How old is the battery as it may let you down when it gets cold as this situation might be giving You a sign it is getting to it's end of life, unless of course the body shop had the interior lights on all day! paul m.
  17. Ok, just found this thread so here goes. 'Retired' last year (age 54) after 28 years as a frontline Firefighter for the Fire & Rescue Service, before that was an Installation Electrician for Electricity Supply Industry (9 years). Now working as a Firefighter in the Film & TV industry, so not technically retired...... Paul m.
  18. +1 on the 'gunk' problem. Had it before in a Mondeo where some detergent was used instead of proper screen wash and it just sunk to the bottom and congealed blocking the gauze that protects the pump/jets, in my case I removed the pump and ran a hose pipe through the resivour. paul m.
  19. Just grabbed this pic ( admittedly of a 2011, but is 2012 gonna be different?) of the dash of a 250 f-sport and the button you're looking for is the one under ( in this case it's ON) the low fuel orange warning light! paul m.

The IS250 is the best car I have ever had ( now aged 55 so had a few!) that sure looks like a good example, nice Black interior ( only colour to have in my opinion, looks classy for longer!) that one also has the stupid expensive option extra Moonroof as Lexus call it. The only option it does not have is ACC and that is like Unicorn poo to find anyway! The pedal/covers are not standard for a SE-L but it IS an SE-L as it was the only model to have wood trim ( and it is real wood, supplied by Yamaha the Piano manufacturers!) and it is marked on the drivers door jamb "IS 250 SE L" looks like a lotta car for the money and the mileage should not be a concern if you can check any maintaince history to confirm spark plug change at 60,000 ( or six years). As all servicing was ( allegedly!) carried out by Lexus you can view everything they have ever done on their "MyLexus" portal. Someone recently commented on the lack of past paperwork/invoices for work done when buying a 250 compared to other cars they have bought, simple reason is it wasn't missing, the car is so reliable and hardly anything needs repairing! better go and stand in front of it to see if photos add up, but better still get out in it! You won't be dis appointed. in the above buyers guide it mentions the boot lid slamming down like a Guillotine very un-Lexus like but it is an easy fix and unless already seen to then most cars this age will suffer. paul m.

The way I understand it is that the PCS defaults to ON every time you start the vehicle ( even if it was/can be turned off previously) I have never had it (PCS) come into play at such a lever to think wow that was not me it must have been the PCS, this vehicle is fitted with so many passive safety features you may be unaware which are functions and when. I did recently have a scary moment when using the CC, I thought it was in ACC mode but it turns out I was in Manusl mode and came up behind a slower vehicle and got a shock when 'we' never slowed as expected, I know even at the shortest radar cruise distance it is quite far enough to react (other cars normally drop into the gap and send me backwards!) but it was a surprise when nothing happened!   22. How 'Elaborate ' are we talking? Have you got it fitted to your 250? And Is it not functioning as you expect it should? I have got it and use ACC at every opportunity, I have encountered the 'cornering' shut off situation as well as the heavy rain one. ACC & PCS are interlinked and when an object is detected in front of the vehicle when in motion the vehicles brakes are applied ( after reduction of throttle first) if it is considered to be an iminant hazard. If after applying the brakes in ACC mode and the hazard is not gone then the ACC switches OFF with 3 beeps to let you know you're on your own to deal with it! Paul m.
